That’s pretty sweet, I must say. Very Nintendo-y. It’s hard too, which is also nostalgic of the NES. On the side of criticism, I found it hard to control the guy at times, and I feel a background graphic is due.

Cool even still.

Thanks! You’re games awesome too, way to trump my NES feel with an Atari feel. I like the concept, are you using a trail effect on the hero or is that just a eye trick from the orange on black, either way its awesome. It’s hard to switch back and forth between our games because we went the complete opposite route in terms of physics. are you using a framework?

also could you be more specific about when it was hard to control the guy? would the control make more sense if I told you that collecting gems made you heavier?

Glad to see another retro platformer in the competition though, good luck!

Hey, thanks man! Good luck to yourself =]

It’s funny you should mention the blur effect. I coded it a while back for the purpose of increasing the visibility of small rapidly moving objects (namely particles, like bullets. )I fell in love with it and I’ve used it ever since. I’m glad to hear it’s mistakable as an optical illusion, I was afraid it was too noticeable. And no, I’m not using a framework. It bugs me to use code I didn’t write myself (which certainly lengthens the development process.)

Anyways, I feel like the guy should accelerate faster and slow down quicker (simulating a surface with greater traction) and I think the jump sensitivity should be a bit more responsive. In addition, even though I have no idea how to do this, it would be nice if the camera moved with some grace, almost as if it were attached to the guy with rubber bands.

I also think the camera should be zoomed out a bit (I find myself not knowing what it is I’m jumping towards.)

Sadly, I’m not going to finish my project in this GiTD. :C

But I’ve played your games and they’re all great. I’ll be glad to play the finished versions.

I’ve uploaded the latest version of my game. I changed the main menu and added a number of screens, but the gameplay is essentially the same as before. There are still quite a few features that I need to implement. I’m not sure I can finish on time, but I’m giving it my best shot.

Ok, I’ve now uploaded my finished entry for this contest: http://www.kongregate.com/games/BadEgg/klecter

Good luck to everyone else who’s submitting, I’ve enjoyed playing your games so far.

I liked the “witchbook” style of the UI, very cute. If you still have time to fix bugs, when I played the second opponent, after playing the first one, her name was written on top of the first opponent’s name in the fight screen, making it totally unreadable.

Wow, tough competition this time around. I am glad i didn’t enter lol. The contrast of the quality of games is quite notable when something is up for grabs besides bragging rights.

Oh wow, thanks for catching that bug, Ace. I saw another similar bug in the battle screen after playing two consecutive matches. I fixed those bugs, and I’m now working toward making my entry qualify for the GitD theme.

Ok final update from me. http://www.fastswf.com/jhGGf90
Didn’t get as much as I wanted done (Only got one of the endings partially finished) so you basically can’t really lose right now. I was hoping to have a bad ending (if you hadn’t installed the brain and heart), the good ending you see now if you had the heart and brain both installed, and a perfect ending if you had all parts installed.

But time waits for no dev so here’s as much as I could get done.

hehe, yeah. Actually, now that you mention it, I’m not even sure what there is to do with 100 kreds.

Well, here is my final submission for the contest:

I’m probably going to work on it after because I think it has potential for a full game. Possibly with a story mode and more levels and such. Let me know what you guys think.

My entry

I simply dont have time. Must leave now.

<table> <tr> <td>INSTRUCTIONS</td> </tr> </table>

ASWD to move, jump down chutes to switch level, hold W while adjacent to a ceiling to magnetize your head.

No in game tutorial, only 3 levels. There so much more I want to do with this, a shame it’s not game in 12 days. I have to go now bye.

Aw I_love_you_lots, I’m so saddened by the fact that the game levels always make you leave down but then scroll right in order to get to the next room. I do like the game mechanics you have going on and I appreciate the fact that instead of giving directions to collect the items to unlock the gate you simply made the opening level dead simple to pick up the symbols and let the player discover it on their own.

Here’s my entry. I built it in Construct 2. It’s not very big, and I don’t expect to win, but this was a good challenge. Feedback is appreciated.

Well it looks like I ran out of time.

I suggest not playing as the rock.

The final version of my entry. We still have an hour to receive pre-judgment feedback and bug reports. :P

I had initially planned a traditional tilemap/camera setup, along with many other things, but my OS crashed and I lost my tilemap class (along with my entire code library.) I simply didn’t have time to code anything complex, nor flesh out the gameplay at all.

In short, I’m not perfectly satisfied with my entry and I certainly will continue to develop it beyond GiTD. I’m glad I could participate though.

EDIT

As for the strange way in which the player moves through the map, lets just say that’s possible in a two dimensional universe :P

This contest is completed or near, but due to circumstances UG will have to proceed instead of me.

Ahh, I’m not sure if I’m smokin’ crack or what, but the guy seems a lot easier to control now.

Pretty cool. I wish it was scaled up a bit, and it annoys me that the bad guys still shoot your body after you’ve died. I think you’re right, it has potential to be a full game.

Ssshhhwweeeettt! =]

Can’t believe I forgot to turn off debug mode… the deadline is passed, but here is release mode, if it is still acceptable.
