Thats a really interesting site Adam. You’ve clearly put a lot of effort in to it, and it has encouraged me to try contacting several portals with my near-finished game. I’d just about given up hope of doing anything with it, and didn’t want to just slap it on Kongregate since the amount of ad-revenue seems to be a pitance.

AdamSchroeder, Thank you for putting your FlashGameSponsorship.com site together. I too am new to the business and have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how it works. Your work on putting this together is invaluable. You might want to turn your site into a blog with ads. It would be a good way to get additional revenue, for work you are already doing. I know I would certainly read it regularly, and I’m sure a loto of other developers would be interested as well. |

Thanks for the suggestion Xensory! I just added a blog. I think that will help me promote the site and feature new content when I add it. :) Adam |

AdamSchroeder, it looks like there is a typo on your site. http://www.flashgamesponsorship.com//sponsorTips.html Do you perhaps mean “ArcadeTown.com”? |
Thanks axcho! I’ve fixed it. |
I’ve added write-ups from ArmorGames and MaxGames to the www.flashgamesponsorship.com site. You can see whats new: |
Hey Adam. I’d prompt you to add our new Premium Game guidelines, as they could be considered a sponsorship of sorts. |
cpasley, Wow, that’s a great offer. I never knew about it, thanks for pointing it out! But then again… what do I know? (read article to get joke). |
Hey – I just saw your site – I know I’m a little behind, but bravo! That’s an excellent resource and a very interesting read. Thank you so much for putting that together – I will be sending anyone who asks questions about this to your site. |

Thanks Phoenix! I’ve got some great new content on Flash Game Sponsorship Kongregate’s Premium Game Program (they will fund your game 20k-100k and you will keep all IP) Flipline Studios – offers tips & advice on promoting your game if you publish it yourself. MochiAds – In game advertising system to help you earn extra revenue while your game travels across the internet. They will also help distribute your game. XGenStudios – Article on sponsorships and publishing opportunities. They are focusing on MP games and even have a custom server MMOcha they are making available. Also, I’m trying to compile a list of games and how much they received in sponsorship. This will be a huge help for new developers to gauge the value of their work. If you are willing to share these details (check with your sponsor first) please contact me! |
What do you mean by “you will keep all IP”? |
You will keep all intellectual property rights. You can still say that you made it, you can still use the ideas, materials etc. in it. |
Ok. I didn’t know what IP here meant (and I knew it couldn’t be internet protocol). |

For anyone who’s really serious about learning how to make money with games, I’d recommend watching this presentation on Indie Marketing Admittedly, I have not made any money with games yet, but I’ve just finished watching that presentation and found it very insightful. Hopefully I will be able to successfully apply those lessons in the future. :) The talk is aimed at independent developers making downloadable games, but the basic principles transfer to Flash games pretty well. If anything, it’s easier in the Flash scene, since we can directly link to our own sites from our games, and we don’t have to worry about whether people actually buy the full version after playing. But of course, most Flash portals take 100% of the revenue, which is not so great. Except Kongregate, of course, which is more like a normal portal. :) |

If, as your first game, you post an incomplete alpha, with no art, sound, or minigames, like my P+C, can you still get funding/sponsorship/licenses for the full version as soon as it is done? |
Obviously I can’t speak directly for a potential sponsor, but I believe as long as what you are wanting to get sponsored is substantially different then what is publicly available you should be fine. |
Amazing site Adam :) loving the blog as well, keep up the good work. |
Weird question. What subject line should I use in an email to potential sponsors? Like, would I write: “Sponsorship opportunity” or: “looking for sponsorship for point and click game” or something else entirely? |
I like ’Sponsorship opportunity:[name of game]" |
Also, should I address it to Greg or Mr. McClanahan? |
I always use “game sponsorship”. Adam; I don’t like yours; it sounds like spam. And agressive spam filters might kill it, though they might not. No idea; I don’t know how they work. |
I doubt it would matter much what the title is. Game Sponsorship: [game name] sounds just as good as ‘opportunity’ I’ve used first names (if I know them). Although mostly you don’t. Remember, don’t just send your game to one person. One you have a nice email drafted send the same email to 10 different potential sponsors. |
I know not to send it to only one person, but Greg was the only one that I knew the full name for. XD So you’re saying first if you have semi-met the person, Mr. X if not? EDIT: 250 Posts! WOOT! |
what does “[insert sponsor here] was offering 5x and the option to sell non-branded site-locked versions to other sites.” mean? |
Sorry about all the questions, I hope this will be the last one. Can I post a game on my own site and hope for it to get sponsored? Thanks for all your help, you will get in the credits if I ever find a sponsor. XD |
