Just saw this on the main page, I was thinking of entering then saw this…
“The Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States (excluding Maine) and the District of Columbia who are 13 years of age or older, "
Are people in Canada not allowed to enter?
aside from that… who is thinking of having a go at this? The $10,000 prize looks really nice!

Haha – you guys beat me to posting a thread in here. In any case, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to post them in here. Sorry ’bout the no out-of-US devs – we had to limit to just the US for legal reasons. However, for the US devs this is an amazing opportunity to get a piece of a very nice prize, so best of luck to all of you! :-)

Thanks, Phoenix!
I, myself, am likely going to be up against greater competition than last time (victory was tantalizingly close!) but thanks to a large deposit of code I’ve already generated for a game I’ve been working on, I should be able to work within the constraints of the time limit and merely adapt a large portion of the work I’ve already done to the new theme (dungeon crawl to arena is not that far of a stretch); I figure in the long run its a teaser of what my game will be when its finished.

Can the user who is outside of the US give permission for a user inside of the US to upload the game, and have the user in the US pay(through pay-pal) to the user outside?

I’m trustable. I’d do it for a friend. I have a reputation to gain/keep, because I plan on staying in the Flash Community forever.
@Blank. I’m thinking of going for it. I will try for a few games to submit.

I’d do it for a friend too. But yeah, being trusted with $10,000 is pretty big.

Keep in mind that by our upload agreement, you must be the rights-holder (i.e. either one of the game developers or the game sponsor) in order to upload a game. We consider the uploader to be the owner of the game, and if any disputes arise regarding ownership, they will likely lead to the game being removed from our site and disqualified from the competition.

Since this topic already exists…
(from the official rules)
By entering this Contest, you (and if a minor, your parent or legal guardian) represents, warrants, and agrees that your Entry: (i) is original and was created solely by you
(from the FAQ)
(i.e. either one of the game developers or the game sponsor)
Is collaboration permitted?

I really wouldn’t worry about minor technicalities of the rules right now. Just concentrate on making your game, and if later on it starts to look like it’s winning then you can read through the small print. If it turns out there’s something disqualifying you you’ll at least of gotten a lot of publicity for your game from being in the contest leaderboard, meaning lots ad revenue and some good sponsership oppertunities. Kongregate aren’t going to interrogate you or run background checks before you submit, as long as you keep quiet about it they are more than likely going to look the other way at minor rule infringement. In any case, making a post telling them what rule you are going to break is really not a clever idea.

Yes. So in theory, you could collaborate with someone in another country, upload it (being in the US) and split the prize.
I’ve got an artist, who I don’t know what country he lives in, but the game is technically mine. I will be splitting any winnings I make with him (although such a stipulation isn’t in our agreement, he does deserve some of any contest prizes for having made the game look pretty). Which isn’t covered by the official rules, as it is my prerogative that I share my winnings, and has no bearing on the contract between us, or on the contest.
