This is an experimental thread as suggested by forum members for controlling the overflow and running of groups/contests. It has been suggested that users request a groups/contests ‘slot’ here. Once they are granted it, they can create a [signup] thread, then a [Group]/[Contest] thread. Once their group/contest ends, that slot will become available for someone else to host group/contest.
Posting a group/contest without signing up is unfair to other hosts who follow directions; so as a result those who do this may have their group/contest closed.
Please read the rules before asking questions

Groups and contests guidelines:
▪You can have 1 contest/game at any time.
▪If you have recently been troublesome in the forums, your spot in line may be given to someone else.
▪If a user is breaking forum rules in yourcontest/group, you may boot them from thecontest/group.
▪Don’t blatantly bump your groups/contests.
Game tags & signup threads:
▪Sign up threads and group/contest threads must be separate.
▪Sign up threads should have a [signups] tag. Example: [signups] Banner of the week.
▪Contest threads should have the [Contest] tag.
▪Group threads should have the [Group] tag.
▪When your sign ups have finished, delete your thread or place [signups closed] at the beginning of the title; then create your [Contest]/[Group] thread.
Contests/ groups may be closed if they:
▪Are over 50 or 100 pages, depending on the contest.
▪Have been inactive for more than 1 week
▪Have not had their host post in them for more than 1 week (for contests)
▪Have not had any of it’s members post in them for more than 1 week (for groups)
▪Are only being played by the same 2-3 members
▪Are breaking site rules

If someone line jumps, post about it here with the link. If a group/contest is inactive, feel free to mention that.
Group/contest are not a problem; it’s spam or games taking over. If neither happens, its not an issue.

SOTW should not be included in my opinion. It’s weekly so I wouldn’t even call it a contest, more like an event.

Remember that the current tags are:
[group]
[request]
[contest]
I think that SOTW would fit the [Contest] tag.

It doesn’t have an official list of people, so I would assume not. Though I could very likely be incorrect.

It could be a group because there’s a “group portfolio”; what a dilemma I have created!

Well, I think I agree with Marh. It is a group. But remember, those are the tags we are using now , it doesn’t mean that they are definitive, and I guess some more are going to be added.
Anyway, sorry to say, but this isn’t the place to discuss that. But! post that here

Just giving you the heads up on SOTW- I REALLY hope you don’t expect me to sign-up the SOTW every single week. It’s an on-going contest, and will stop in the far future. I mean- it being made every week isn’t necessarily a good cause for “Contest Registration.”
If I REALLY need to go through the trouble of registering every single SOTW, then I guess it’ll be a bit more troublesome, but worth it.
ALSO, Reaper Graphix needs to be added to the closed groups category, though it will be opening in due time. Probably within the next 2 months, for sure.

I guess that the purpose of this thread was organizing the art forums, so you should follow the same guidelines the others follow. Let’s make it fair.
Anyway, there are two open spots for contests, and I don’t think they are going to be reserved that soon- if you sign up here as soon as you can every week, I’m sure your contest is not going to have any problems.
Remember this is an experimental thread, we are going to add groups/contests slots if needed.

Maybe he could register it once just as a formality, but for each individual contest he can continue as he has?

As I said before, the point of this thread is to keep the art forums more organized. A lot of SOTW threads would not help, and it isn’t fair to the other users.
The solution would be the following: hokage4354 signs up now, and he makes only one thread. He updates the title, and when he reaches the 100 pages, he starts another one.
Do you like the idea?

I see the point, but only having one thread seems overly restrictive—it’s especially hard to manage a voting thread when announcements, discussions and entries on the next weeks comments are coming up in between the votes. Gimptalk.com has biweekly contests. There is one thread what begins with a gallery of previous winners, then contest announcements are followed by entries and discussion. Each contest has a separate voting thread though. The winner is announced in that thread and then added to the gallery in the general thread. This would cut down on the number of threads, but allow voting to be separated.

Maybe we should follow this discussion in the other thread , This isn’t the place for a discussion about a specific case.
Anyway, I would want to reply your post, JohannasGarden:
I don’t think that’s the solution to the SOTW contest. There would be a lot of SOTW threads anyway, and as I said before, more than once, we have to be fair, everybody must follow the same guidelines .
I understand your point of view, but if the creator of SOTW (hokage4354) makes an effort to keep his thread well organized, maybe it’s going to work.
In think he should try my idea once, if it doesn’t work, and he has another solution, maybe we can work on it. Anyway, I’m just suggesting him to do that.
I really can’t think of any other way to resolve his problem. If someone has any idea, please post it here .
EDIT: Nice idea, Marh. Thank you.

Just a little tip, for the open slots, you can do this to make it visually clearer, if you’d like:
Groups:
Undead sylence art team
THEpixel ~ Pixel Avatars and Banners~
DRAGON Art – The Original Learning Thread
Tainted Design
Art Store!
(open space)

So forcing a well organized contest to be crammed into one unorganized thread helps?
If that’s the case, then why not just close the damn thing down. :/
I’d rather have an organized 3 Thread contest, than a messy 1 thread contest.
And no- I don’t mean 3 threads for every contest, just SOTW.
Why just SOTW? Because it’s the only thing I can think of that runs smoothly in that format
and only in that format. Forcing it to be 1 thread is impossible for the sake of me easily
organizing the next SOTW. Hell- even 2 threads would be a pain in the butt.
I understand where you’re coming from, “everybody must follow the same guidelines.”, but
sometimes you have to bend the limits and restrictions for the best of the “team”. If you
have a soccer team, and the best player is unable to make some practices, you aren’t
going to kick him off the team for “not following the same guidelines as everybody else.”
You’re going to keep him there to keep the team alive and kickin’.
Same thing with SOTW. You’re not going to get rid or restructure it because it slightly bends
the new guidelines. You’re going to need to bend the rules a bit to keep it here- to keep the
art forum “alive and kickin’.”
Trust me, having entries, voting, and discussion in one thread will be living hell- for me atleast.
I’d need to read every one of those 100-200 posts to see what it has as far as entries and
voting go. Conversation will also be mangled between the three. It’ll be one big twisted knot.
I mentioned it before, but now I’ll say it as a question …
Do I need to make SOTW one big thread, or will you let it slide for the sake of its sanity?

So forcing a well organized contest to be crammed into one unorganized thread helps?
This isn’t unorganized. This was created to organize the forums by following strict rules, and not to bend them under any circumstances. It would like having an “ongoing game” in the off-topic forums.
If that’s the case, then why not just close the damn thing down. :/
I would support that, personally. Signatures altogether have done a lot of damage to the art forums, and it seems like the threads seem to be only taking up space.
Why just SOTW? Because it’s the only thing I can think of that runs smoothly in that format
and only in that format. Forcing it to be 1 thread is impossible for the sake of me easily
organizing the next SOTW. Hell- even 2 threads would be a pain in the butt.
Why not one thread? You’ve shown you can organize threads very well, just reserve enough posts. Sure, it’s difficult, but it’s for the liberty for the rest of the threads that need breathing air in the art forums.
I understand where you’re coming from, “everybody must follow the same guidelines.”, but

You’re going to keep him there to keep the team alive and kickin’.
Bad analogy.
Same thing with SOTW. You’re not going to get rid or restructure it because it slightly bends
the new guidelines. You’re going to need to bend the rules a bit to keep it here- to keep the
art forum “alive and kickin’.”
How does SOTW keep the art forums “alive and kickin’”. It doesn’t, it keeps itself that way, maybe the SOTWs aren’t as important to these forums as you think they might be.
Trust me, having entries, voting, and discussion in one thread will be living hell- for me atleast.
I’d need to read every one of those 100-200 posts to see what it has as far as entries and

So far your whole argument is that how this would be doing an injustice to your thread – nothing about how it would have a negative effect on the art forums. (because it wouldn’t)

hokage4354, this isn’t the place for posting that. Try the other thread .
I’m not going to reply that post, because:
-Marh’s post is basically the same one I’d post.
-As I said before, this isn’t the right thread for that question.
-And because I really don’t know how to help you. I’m the one who replies here because arcaneCoder offered me to do this thread, and I accepted it, but I’m not the right one.
Remember that I’m just trying to help, I’m not important or anything.
EDIT: No problem. Also, I feel like telling you that I want SOTW to continue existing, I’d love to participate in a nearly future. Thank you for understanding.

Go for it. Remember to post in the guidelines that it has to be original art, otherwise it’d become an Off-topic thread.
Then edit your post with the link, please.
