[Collab] Kong Ant Patchwork -- Completed

Hey All,

I’ve been setting up what I think will be a pretty cool little collaboration project for our community. The basis is that I made a 11″ × 17″ poster featuring the Kong ants and the Kongregate logo. I then split this up into 24 equal rectangles. You can see the image below as a overview of the project. Once people sign up, I’ll assign each person a tile. Their goal will be to recreate the tile in any style and color scheme they want, as long as they maintain the light/medium/dark colors, and follow the rough shapes within their tile. We want to get super creative, but we also want the final result to be recognizable.

Poor guy who gets square 2. :D

Square 2 is fairly plain, and squares 17-20 are all pure black. These are actually the toughest/most creative tiles, as you can do anything as long as the canvas remains mostly light/mostly dark.

EDIT: Are you going to sign up, Lax? Each tile could take as few as a couple of minutes per person, and I’d really like to try to get most art forum regs in on this.

Maybe there could be an example tile to show how it would work? Im guessing you can do any type of designs as long as they are in shades that match the color. Aka, light blue on white, dark blue on black.

So what about the red lines, how do we decide who gets 3 pixels and why gets 2?

This is just a guide to show you guys how it works. When I assign tiles, I’ll send you a full resolution PNG of your tile, and you’ll paint over that and send it back. The final product will be a high-resolution 11″×17″ poster that is printing quality, so it’s important that you guys maintain the resolution.

I am guessing that paint wouldn’t be remmommended then? As I think that it if you save in certain image types the quality suffers. Im guess it happen in some file types though…

Even in Paint, if you save as a PNG there is no loss. You can do it in any program you want.

Just asking… What would the size of each section be in pixels?

825W x 850L.

EDIT: That’s the base size for each tile. The pieces on the edge of the poster will need a 1/8" bleed, so they’ll be a little bigger in one direction or two if they’re a corner piece.

O.o, so… so each title will have plenty of room by itself.

The image I posted above is 25% of what the final one will be. So yeah, you’ll have tons of room to do stuff.

Are the tiles going to be distributed randomly, or will you get to pick? Personally I’d just pick a random one. I don’t discriminate tiles. =)

I’d really like it if as many art regs as possible signed up. You don’t have to do something incredibly intricate. And if you want, I could give you a pretty plain/simple tile so it’s easier for you.

I’m going to match up tiles and participants myself, although quite a bit of it will end up being ~random.
