Lately, I’ve been getting into surreal traditional art a lot more.
I quit pixel art, though, for you oldies who remember me.

Good stuff. I’d encourage you to iterate. Pick up a pad of tracing paper and redraw these, refining each time. I think you’ll find that the second version is significantly better than the first. If you have the energy to do a third, it will be better still. These are great sketches, but they’ll be awesome when they become finished drawings.

Why would you quit doing a specific type of art which you were good at? I am disappoint. Why can’t you simply just not be doing pixel art at the moment?

Though your question isn’t to me, TWA, I think it’s better to do art you’re NOT good at. (Especially when it’s drawing by hand.)

Again, the second question, Pete; “why can’t you simply just not be doing pixel art at the moment?” He should do art he’s not good at, but that doesn’t mean stop doing what you were doing before. That’s like moving forward in one direction and turning back to take another path. Continuation of the silly metaphor, with time and effort you can build a bridge to go to and from the destinations of both paths. Get good at sketching and then use it and other things you’ve learned, and maybe it was just the wording of his post that was wrong, maybe he didn’t mean he was “quitting” pixel art.

Also, I think I should point out that two of the links for the images are the same image.

That’s a fair question, TWA.

When I was in school, a lot of my peers seemed eager to develop their “signature style.” That never appealed to me. However, I don’t consider myself a very good artist, either… so maybe that worked for them. I always felt too interested in artistic style to limit myself to any one medium. Hell, I play guitar, banjo, write, take photos, draw, sculpt, build furniture, skateboard, critique movies, and read books. I consider ALL of it creatively equal, and skateboarding helps my drawing… drawing helps my writing… writing makes the movies I watch better… those movies help my guitar-playing, and so on.

So, I’m a proponent of a diverse approach to creative output. If you’re good at something, THAT’S reason enough to dedicate your time to a different vehicle for your creativity. Does that make sense?

I didn’t mean I quit, no, sorry TWA. I’m on a hiatus. xD
I also don’t think I’m better at pixel art than at traditional drawing. Ahwell, it just depends on whether I have inspiration and motivation or not.

I like how in Violent Nature, scrolling down adds a nice “falling effect” to the drippings. :)

The first one is the only one I like no offense. It’s just the elements of the others seemed too depressing for my personal taste or liking.

I suppose. Surrealism and suggestivism usually are a little dark.
And the first one is my favorite so thanks. xD

Nice work HolyQuacamloe!

I like the idea of the spaghetti western. You may want to consider the placement of the gun. It looks 2-dimensional, and consequently the spaghetti coming out of the barrel(I probably wouldn’t color the spaghetti as well, to contrast the gun). If you can see a bit of the barrel and the spaghetti dropping down, the action marks of the spaghetti falling and the splashing could be understated as the viewer’s eye will be drawn to the spaghetti pile.

Cool drawings, the spaghetti western reminds me of the first picture in this thread. Keep up the good work.
