Hey guys, I don’t know how many of you use GIMP, but I was wondering if there is any way to crop something of of the image, besides FreeHand Select (and rectangle/ellipse select)

For example, could do it with the “Magic Wand” but it doesn’t let me copy it effectively. I can figure some way around it if I have to, but I was wondering if there is any way to.

Here is an example: (I either want to crop it out, or make the White Transparent)

Thanks, help is MOST appreciated ^^

I use GIMP almost exclusively for photo manip and editing, so I’m pretty familiar with it, just not an expert. What you want to do is select the white, so you can crop it out? Have you tried the “Magic Wand” in GIMP? If you didn’t know it existed, it looks like this in the GIMP toolbar. (the one that is selected.)
If you have any more questions, I suggest the online manuals at, or whisper me questions and I will try to answer them the best I can.

Wow, looks like a useful program. I use flash whenever I draw though.

GIMP owns.

Hmm, I’ve never seen that tool bar (I’ve seen the tool, but I thought it said “Burn Tool” which didn’t do anything the first time…

Anyway, what version of GIMP? I have 2.4.0

Also, thanks a lot :D

How do I stop this?

It does that in both and GIMP

On it should just be a matter of using the magic wand to delete the white (use the delete button rather than cut), then selecting the whole image and pasting it into a new layer over the background (go to edit —> paste into new layer).
