I was looking for a thread where I could post some of my pencil portraits but I couldn’t find one. If there is one already in existance and you would rather me post there, please let me know and I will happily move. For now, I am going to “show off” some work.

I think they’ll be rather large so that’s about it. They were all photographed and some in bad lighting, so that would explain any blurriness or fuzziness or slight coloration. The website link in my profile will lead you to another website where you could view more of my work if you wanted to.
Now…I’d REALLY like to see the artwork of other Kongregators! |

Yes I did. OnlyMe722 is my profile over at DeviantArt. I know it can be hard to prove that so you’ll just have to take my word on it…oh and if you go to onlyme722.deviantart.com, where all of these and more are located, you’ll notice that under the username I’ve put “a.k.a. MissSpiffey”.
Thanks for the compliment though :) |

Wow—those are all amazing, MissSpiffey! A stunning amount of detail, also! Have you taken art classes? These look very professional. |

Wow. These are some amazing peices of work. They look really porfessional, I wouldn’t be suprised if these sold for over thousands ^^.
What I draw is mostly soft anime style. I’m still young so I still have time to improve in alot of points (which I do need to work on ALOT). Well awosome job. Keep it up! |

Thank you very much! I didn’t expect such immediate positive feedback! :)
I have taken a couple of classes, but by the time I got into them I was already drawing. I was actually a rather stubborn art student who stuck to her guns and refused to draw the way the teacher wanted me. It resulted in my working much slower than the other students (mostly because I wasn’t comfortable with charcoal which was faster and easier to work with). Anyways, I’m about 90% self taught, unless you count the hundreds of times I’ve studied the work of other artists and have tried to mimick some of their techniques to find what worked for me. |

He he… I am the same way….even though I’m like down graded like 20 levels by skill from you my teacher alwase thaught of me as her star student ^^. She tried to get me into more realistic styles of drawing and was attempting really hard to get me to do them but I just ignored it and continued on my anime style. I studied a whole buncha mangas that I could get a hold of. Studied like heck untill my head exploded, then just taught myself everything else on the way. As I said befor I still need to work alot on alot of points, I just hope to be as great as you some day… =) |

wird al keeps coming to my town doing shows, but i refuse to shell out 60 bucks to go see him.
but yeah, these are pretty damn good, but i say you should mix things up more. change the scene around, add stuff, etc. as it is you’ve just got wonderful greyscale skintones and vaguely frightening noses. |

I’m 23.
And yea I keep telling myself to switch things up, so I won’t deny that it couldn’t hurt. I’m a bit anal when it comes to drawing in the sense that I have to have reference images, and I’ll admit it’s almost like a crutch for me. I’m completely without when I try trying something out of my head, and when I do doodle I usually just draw eyes because I’m most familiar with those. |

yeah it looks like nose structure is your weak point. you should try doing stuff that isnt so realistic once in a while! try cartooning! |

I’d buy one. Got an online store?
You really have the shadows of the skin and the anatomy of the face down to a tee. Great job! |

These are absolutely fantastic Miss S!
Weird Al is brilliant, but Im torn between Naomi and Cate as favourites.
I don’t know what your profession is but you certainly have a bright future
as a portrait artist. :) |

Thanks so much!
Does no one else have some photo-realistic stuff to share? :(
Ok anyways. I actually haven’t ever endeavored into the arena of commissioned works. I’ve thought about it, but honestly…I’m not as consistent as “professional artists” meaning I don’t draw every day. I haven’t drawn anything in over a year. I really should. Anyways…I resent the fact that the noses are scary :P but of course I really do appreciate an objective outlook hahaha. Noses were one of the areas I was always a bit less than confident with, but noses are rather difficult, seeing as they are particularly dependent on the ability to create the illusion of line without actually drawing a line.
And in case anyone is wondering. #1= Weird Al, #2=Naomi Watts, #3=Cate Blanchett, #4=no one you would recognize, just a fellow artist.
While I’m at it…I feel compelled to go ahead and show 3 more pieces. They are all mostly older drawings but ones I was proud of for different reasons.
Grand-Aunt’s Grandson :P This was my first attempt at drawing a child

Brad Pitt – screen shot from movie Seven – yes, his nostrils really aren’t perfect. First attempt at doing a screen shot and a really emotive photograph.

Marilyn Monroe classic photograph. If I recall correctly this was my first attempt at drawing hair realistically.

I think it’s one of two things.
1) No one here does photo-realistic.
2) No one can stand up to the amount of awesome that’s in this topic. ;P
Honestly, I’m part of number 1. I’ve never attempted anything realistic outside of practicing anatomy, which I still don’t have a good grip on yet. But if I DID have anything photo-realistic, I would totally post it here. :)

don’t speak so confidently deriaz. Ive done more realistic proportions before, they just don’t normally suit my needs, and though id love to prove you wrong right now, i think people would much rather see me finish my games. |
