so i have this art/language project to do for my reading buddy in school, i am making the pictures right now and i would like some feedback. currently i only have the first 2 pages done out of 25 D: i been using corel painter essentials to do this and its been pretty fun to use all the brushes.

…and i should tell u the main plot of the story i guess…
so its starts out with there being a storm at the north pole (it has to be chrismasy) then a tornado forms and blows away rudolph. then santa has to go and try to find him blah blah blah he finds him he gets home safely and i get an A+

The edges are a bit messy, particularly visible on the ground. The second picture is a bit ambiguous, although I suppose it depends on what the story is. The layers don’t seem to mesh well, I can’t think of the right word to describe it but it gives the whole thing a choppy appearance.

It looks ok, but what happens is that it lacks professionalism. Impressive drawing, but when it comes right down to it, unless you are keeping the style consistent, it is good to pay attention to the nitty gritty details.

Things like light sources and the effect on objects, etc etc, should be at least kept in mind to make it feel more professional. I’m not too sure about Corel, but a few post-drawing work such as contrast adjustment, hue adjustment, curves/levels and so on could easily make it a better and more interesting piece. This is especially so if you are not very used to using brushes or digi-painting methods to accomplish these tasks.

I can’t see any connection with the pictures except for the north pole, but I belive the look is pretty simular to the style of drawings you would see in picture books.(but much larger in size.)

Corel Painting is an insanely powerful program… if you have a tablet. I’d say 70% of the power of the program is unavailable to anyone without a tablet. That said, you might have better luck with a program (like GIMP) that has a more limited tool-set, as getting any real respectable result from Painter without a tablet would be tough for anyone.

Considering that it’s a school project, not even for an art class, I really wouldn’t worry too much about nit-picky details like light sources, so long as it looks good I highly doubt they will punish you for those things.

I think it’s looking great, the colours are nice and you have an overall good digital style, I look forward to seeing the remaining 23 pieces, if you decide to upload them!

of course i will upload them it would be useless if i didnt and if it doesnt exactly make sense like the storyline ill upload the actual words that go with it once i am done all the art, and remember this is for a person in grade 2 so dont expect the very best things in the world and thanks for the comments so far.
@rawismojo- i have a pentablet and corel was one of the programs that came with it
