Introduction

There are many different strategies in TPD4, varying in the player’s battle style. There are many walkthroughs being created out there about how to play, the stats, but not many about battle strategies. Which is why I’m creating this. So, firstly before you read on, I trust you have learnt the controls and have played around for a bit. If you haven’t, this guide will not help you as it teaches about some strategies. Also, me and SupremeDestroyer are now grabbing screenies of these strategies in action! Now, enough stalling, let’s rock on!

Camping

Ahh, so classic. The key strategy you’ll see when you play the game is camping. Camping consists of finding a good “hidden” spot where visibility to see you is partially or completely blocked. Then when someone comes into your line of fire, you let out a burst of bullets, striking them, therefore earning a kill. Getting the hang of camping is easy, firstly get used to a map, so you know the map very well. Then, find the places where you can’t be seen/nearly can’t be seen. Go there, and wait patiently for another player to come and shoot as accurately as you can against the player. Want to take camping a step higher? Here are some key things that you should remember when camping. Firstly, when you chat, a speech bubble appears above you, making you extremely visible. So when camping, be aware that your camp spot (when you say something in chat) could be known by a player and so the player is aware of the place you’re camping. Next, be aware of your camp spot weaknesses and strengths. If someone chucks a grenade somewhere near, it could be the blast radius that hits you and if you are unaware, it can destroy your killing spree. When you kill someone, and no one is close by to shoot you when you get out of your hiding spot, run and choose another camp spot far away from it, because when you die, you can still see in your screen, and they’ll know your camp spot. if you keep moving, you remain unpredictable. Open your eyes to new camp spots. You never know when you find a jackpot which is not commonly used. When a extremely good camp spot is used, you can get some pretty wicked kills. This method is a good approach as a beginner, and still serves well for a professional.

Decept And Ambush

This tactics has some relation to camping, but is more active and requires more skill to pull off. This strategy doesn’t really work when playing with nicknames, but when playing with no nicknames, it can obliterate players. Recommended you wear the black ninja skin (human) as it is good for this. Hide somewhere which is a key place in the battle, or where the fights are around (for example, if CTF in Cold Day In Hell, hide in the snow near the Red Flag or in the trees for the Blue Flag). Crawl for maximum efficency (accuracy). Then don’t move, and observe for a player. Once found, wait for it to get close, and don’t give any sign that your there. Once their close, fire like hell and follow him slowly, crawling as to keep accuracy high. Being a high-leveled player doesn’t mean you can see through camoflague easier, and this is a quick way to get high EXP by killing high-leveled. A very good map for this strategy is the Cold Day In Hell, because of the frosty slopes and snowy surfaces give many chances to ambush your opponent. This strategy I found very useful, and not many people I battled used it. I doubt that now because I just let out one of my favourite strategies (darn it!). Well, have fun trying this out!

Basic Head-On Battling

I know, I know, that head on battling isn’t exactly a good strategy. But when you get into one of these battles, there are quite a few things you can do to tilt the battle in your favour. Firstly, crawling. It’s simple, yet it reduces your target in many situations, and increases your accuracy. If your really close to your opponent, try jumping around him – like bunny hopping in FPS (basically you jump around them). Also, getting the first hits are also extremely useful. Two simple advice, but you’ll be glad to know them when they save your life. Another thing, examining your opponent’s weapon. Knowing your opponent gives you a good idea what’s going to happen in a battle with them. Watch out for the MP5s and M16s – They can be pretty devestating. Once you see a gun and hear the sound the bullets firing make, you’ll start to recognize them quite easily. This tells you if you’ve got a chance in beating them or might as well attempt to not keep getting in their way. When all else fails in a head-on battle, well, try to crawl away to somewhere else, though you’ll probably be dead already.

Battle Gatecrashing

Battle Gatecrashing a.k.a Odd Man Out. What happens is you let two players battle it out, fire a few shots at each other and then charge into the battle, and kill both of them as they are weakened. Good strategy for not getting hit, but as most battles last only a few secs due to the ease of killing, you need to time it right. It also doesn’t work as well when one player has like an M16 and one player has a glock as then the M16 player would not get damaged much and slay you as well. This strategy is a bit more towards the difficult side then most strategies, due to the timing. A few tips for this: Before you enter the match, check the health of the players (go into their profile and check how much HP they have) so you know how long they’ll last in a head-on battle. This strategy can be very useful in some situations, but is hard to pull off.

Blind Alley Shooting

Wait what? Blind? What the…? Oh…right. What Blind Alley Shooting basically means to fire at a well-populated area, or shooting where you can hear bullets. An example of this is camping in the red flag area or under the blue flag area and just shooting the big dome in the middle of the spacelab, which is usually a very populated battle area. Might be a good idea to have a spare weapon handy in case someone comes along and you’re out of ammo. in my opinion, running around and shooting the first opponent you see works better, but then again, this is probably safer than going near the heat of the battle. Warning though, by shooting all those bullets, this attracts huge attention to where you are – so like I said, have a spare gun.

Fake Reload

You can’t fake a reload? The only way you can is to point your gun down in the angle that makes you look like your reloading..oh I get it. What happens is you point your gun down in the angle that makes you look like your reloading, like I said just before. This makes people “foolishly” attack you and then you suddenly shoot them. It’s good to shoot a burst of ammo, to make it look like you really are reloading more believable. It doesn’t exactly work crouching because when you crouch the reload looks the same as you would when you were aiming at someone. Bit dangerous though as this means your gonna have to react quick when someone comes.

Surreptious Spy

Urgh! I died again…what use is dying? Well, dying is bad, but you can use it to your advantage. For this strategy, what you do is when you die, you can still look around. See where your enemies are camping, which way everyone’s running and also any weaknesses you can use without any risk of your dying, considering your already dead. When you respawn, you’ll know where everyone is around , you sneaky spy! Also, more effective with full violence due to ease to see opponents. So now you know where to shoot, and can help strategies like Blind Alley Shooting and the basic Run’N’Gun. Ahh far out, I died again! But now I know to spy on them…

Airstrike

The Airstrike is a very good attack/strategy to demonstrate and show off, and is also effective.
In the air attack, or else, the air strike, or else, the sky attack, you go to a high place
where people are getting used to walk or fight under it, and when you see someone you jump directly into him, and shooting him at the same time when you are at the air. For showing off/bragging rights, get a war cry ready.

Map Strategies

Those were general map strategies, usable in all maps. Now, let’s give some more detail for each map.

Corridor:
1. Watch your back.
2. Never stand in the middle of the map, and always take the high ground.
3. Also watch out for people who spawn close to you.
4. Don’t hesitate to fire down the alley blindly (blind alley shooting).

Space Lab:
1.Keep moving.
2. Don’t stay in the center globe for too long. You’ll be trapped like a rat and killed.
3. Prone is your best friend.
4. Don’t assault the camping spots. Far too hard to kill.
5. The top is the safest place, except for the middle top on top of the globe. The sides are good.
6. Some safe spots is the bottom right and top right. Not many fights there.

Evil Zone:
1. Make use of long range shooting. Whoever sees the other guy first is usually the winner.
2. Beware of the little areas where you can hide without being seen. There is the cave at the bottom, the cave below that, and a little house.
3. Prone is your best friend, except when they are close.
4. Battles normally happen near the bottom, so the top is quite safe, most players go there only for CTF/Spawned.

A Cold Day In Hell:
1. Take cover; there is plenty of it.
2. The tree is pretty dangerous; you can be killed easily.
3. Watch out for people hiding. They are everywhere.
4. The house on the right side is relatively safe and good for periodic sniping.
5. No nicknames on this map is deadly. This emphasises point 3.

Gothic:
1. There’s quite a few glitches where you can shoot through the walls, eg. the tree in the middle left and the middle right. Also at the top.
2. This is an average camping map, there’s not too many good camp spots.
3. If it’s no nicknames, wear a black costume – it’s really good for disguise.

Nuclear Sand Storm
1. Watch out for the blue flag area, you can’t see nicknames there and people tend to camp there.
2. This map is a wicked blind alley shooter if you camp in the tunnel on the left side (below flag).
3. Watch out for the wasteland, some players like to hide there, decept and ambush.
4. The top middle of the map is usually more empty then other places in the map, but watch out for campers.

Stats Guide

I’ve seen many threads asking what they do, so here they are. Also, if your skeptical about luck, I won’t blame you. Once full stats = 16%, with artifacts = 25% or around there. I’ve tested it.

Accuracy: Decreases size of crosshair slightly for each point, some weapons require accuracy.
Strength: Some weapons require strength.
Luck: 1.6% of double damage.
Explosions: Adds around 100 damage to grenade. Some weapons require explosions.
Health: Adds 50 health to Max HP.
Def: Reduces damage taken by 5%.

Frequently Asked Questions/Complaints (FAQ)

So, I got this high kill ratio and everything, but when I check my rating again it’s the same. Bug?
No, not a bug. It updates every 24 hours, so be patient.

What does X Stat Do?
Read the stat guide above.

Guns are too costly!
At the beginning, it can take a bit of time to get high leveled but once you get an Uzi+ the coin earning process starts to speed up, and once you reach Aug you’ve simply got too much gold with nothing to do. Cash is the problem, although I’m fine with 250 kills. I think there should be alternative ways.

How do you earn cash?
Currently, there are 2 ways to earn cash. Firstly, earn medals. Bronze give 1 cash, silver give 3 cash, gold give 5 cash. Secondly, earn 250 kills in a room, DM recommended.

How many strategies are here?
9. Can’t you count?
You Suck!

Nice guide DragonArcherZ,

Ramos aproves !

Flag Post

nice guide but lacking in the head on tactics.

a nice counter i found to the decept and ambush method was to pretend that you dont know they are there by pointing your gun in a different direction then as soon as they are in range of your gun crouch and attack them. this almost always works for me.

if you dont know if any one is there and theres no other players on the screen it is generally better to fire a few shots of in the standard hiding spots that has also saved me a few times

3. Recomanded weapon tree to use :
1. KIng cobra – very good weapon for start , it will help you kill alot faster than with default pistol

steyr aug is NOT the best non-cash weapon. its simply one of the better ones.

another strategy is blind alley shooting, which is just shooting in well-populated areas, or shooting somewhere far away when you can hear the bullets. it sometimes works as bullets travel farther than the view screen.

also, camping is not so great in upper-tier battles, as most veteran players already know how to counter camping spots :3

A strategy that somtimes works well for me is this one:

Fake Reload

Point your gun at an angle that makes it look like your reloading, if anyone sees you like this and they think you are reloading theyll just rechlessly charge you without payig much attention to wats going on.

Another one is to ambush somone who’s reloading
one very important note ere is to listen for a click, its not noticable on some guns such as assasins and pistols, but on most guns its rather noticable.
Just let out a massive streem of bullets at them once your sure.
Caution: many guns dont take that long to reload and people with guns that do ake a while to reload will normally have a backup gun.

Nice strategies ping, dragons, ramos, and others… with the first of the ping’s reload strategies, it helps if you fire a long burst and then stop abruptly with about 10-20 rounds left. As a defence against the second, sometimes you can bluff an opponent and get them to wait while you reload if you reload while crouching down, as your weapon stays pointed normally while reloading in a crouch. Crouching has the added benefit of making you harder to hit. Also, grenades are nice for distracting opponents while you reload.

wingedflame, yes, blind alley shooting (I call it lane shooting) can be really effective at times. My favorite place for this is the middle level of space lab as someone shooting from the right or left side hole can easily murder people they can’t even see in the dome or even on the far side of the dome. Be aware though that this can often leave you with an empty gun and a bunch of people who know where you are.

My typical strategy is a mix of run’n’gun and camping… I refer to this as sprint and drift, after a WWII anti-submarine tactic. Basically, I’ll crouch for a couple seconds, then run to a new spot and crouch and look/listen for targets before switching to a new area. Also, I never stay in an area for longer than it takes for me to clear it… the people you kill will often return for revenge, especially if you’re a camper.

Flag Post

I have one, that I like to call patroling. Basicly, it’s a simple alteration on Run&Gun.

First, find a spot where you can easily circle around(On space lab, I find that around the middle level(Where the best camping spot is?), and the lower is best.), and continue circling. When meeting a camper, they’ll usually be sationary, so, while running, throw a grenade at them. Shoot anyone in your way, and jump if you meet a person with an assault rifle. Works GREAT with SMG’s.

Flag Post

for ctf, camping in deadly spots make you a target, but can be rewarding if you are blindly shooting with a good gun. XD.

RECOMENDED FOR NEWBS ONLY, IN NEWB ROOMS

How to do What i call “Sniping”. There are many spots on maps in the game where you can shoot your enemy’s through the ground or at an angle they cant shoot you.For example In the Space_Lab map on the left side Where the black ledge is sticking out if you stand on the near tip, you can shoot people below you. Also on the right side of the map Where people camp ALL THE TIME in that empty room thing you can shoot them through the top.You can only do this if they are or the edge of the white panel no the floor. no further forwards or backwards. You can do this on many maps in different places. *****How to do what i call “afk protector”. This only works on evil_zone. You know That Big fissure in the ground by the buildings where you enter the 2nd floor to the level? There are panels of rock that stick out under neath it.the first one on the left has a rock; go on the right side on the rock and crawl as far as you can into it;people will not be able to kill you any way but with grenades. This is also a good ambush stratigie.*****How to do what i call" Hit,Run,Hit. This can be done on any map. First when two enemy’s come at you just jump to where they are coming from;land in front of them then do the crawl move kill one and retreat;(if you don’t retreat before you kill the second enemy they will kill you.)jump behind them and then do the crawl move and then kill them. Note: this works best with only two people at a time.******How to do what i call “Snipe the dang camper”. OK this can be done on any_map. First you have to “see” the person heading the way towards a camp;(most likely that’s where they are going) then get a distance away and aim your gun toward the camp and let out a load of bullets. They won’t see it coming so chances are the you will pervail with winning.

Wow! So many new strategies are being posted! Because of that, I’ve decided to revive my strategy guide and add all your strategies (remove swearing or anything – and also modified puncutations, and tried to find any mistakes). Be sure to find more strategies in a few days in the main post. I might actually turn it into Official Guide or something on battling strategies for kong cause you guys really like it apparently. Thx for support.
