Nominations are best done in private messages as VV said. At the moment I do try to check on the forums at least once a day but there is many active moderators that seem to take care of any issues.

I withdraw my nomination for MSU.
Also, I find it humorous that everyone who has vehemently spoken out against LDV being a mod is so blissfully clueless. One of you even suggested Darkblood instead… What is wrong with you people? Did you seriously already forget about that serpent faction? It really wasn’t that long ago. Mother of God.. you people might as well nominate Serna or Philosopher at this rate.

I nominate MSU, since he will definitely be impartial and fair. He isn’t part of any faction, so he has no biases.

I didn’t know that about Rudgutter, and that explains a lot of things—such as why he suddenly appeared as a forum mod.
Also, I hope you were not offended by anything I said. I think you are a great moderator, but I don’t think you should be shackled to Tyrant just because you were a great moderator. That’s not fair to you.

I agree with your first point that outside moderators will still delete or lock things that an “insider” wouldn’t delete or lock. I believe, however, that if the current Tyrant mods were engaged in this forum on a regular basis that the need for outside moderators would decrease.
Removing a satire post that isn’t harassing (which happened recently) is a little frustrating, but not such a serious problem that I would like to see some new Tyrant moderators.
The major problem that can only be adequately addressed by Tyrant-player-moderators is the problem of veiled harassment. It is easy to use Tyrant jargon or pronouns or many other devices to obfuscate a harassing message. An inside moderator, who actually does follow the forum and the game, will be able to more easily see the veiled threats than an outside moderator. Moderators are volunteers, and I don’t think we should force an outside moderator to parse through multiple layers of meaning and crosslinked threads and game jargon just to decide if a player is being a jerk.

The problem with bringing a Tyrant-player-moderator into the forum for the purpose of being able to use their personal experiences in the forum and in the game to identify veiled threats and harassment is that those same personal experiences come with biases formed by those experiences. Unless you can find someone who can completely take themselves and their preconceived notions out of the equation when they choose to lock threads and delete posts, the biases formed by those personal experiences and observations will favor the friendly connections of the chosen moderator. However, by taking themselves out of the equation, they would negate the “benefit” (as you seem to see it) of using their experiences to identify veiled threats and harassment, which would put us back at square one.
I don’t always agree with locking of certain threads or the deleting of certain posts as done by the current moderation team, but I certainly think that it beats the alternative that you are proposing in the post above.

Your point is valid and bias, fairness, and the perception of both is a major issue in law, especially trial law.
Meh, y’all got lucky. Justine showed me a cartoon in her Facebook feed, and it was so unbelievably stupid that I went on a 15-minute tirade about the fact that most people don’t understand that in the US, owning a gun is unbelievably more dangerous than not owning a gun. And that arguments like, “if everyone had a gun, we would all be safer”, might sound right but they are completely unsupported by the facts. And that it is doubly stupid to make that argument because it is irrelevant in the US because of the 2nd Amendment. Guns are not going away because our constitution says they are not going away.
So, no text wall for you.
Bias sucks. Find ways to mitigate it. Trolls are worse; knowledgeable moderators are a strong way to deal with trolls.

In a general sense, I agree that trolling is worse than bias. However, I think a biased mod would be much more harmful to the community than any normal forum troll could ever be.
The main point of my last post was to point out that mitigating sucky bias also weakens the benefit of having an inside moderator. The way to remove bias would be to find someone who can be completely objective and ignore their preconceived notions. That removes the advantage of having a mod that has been observing the forum for some time, since it is their subjectiveness and preconceived notions that would help them to identify veiled harassments when compared to a moderator who doesn’t have the proper social context in your scenario.
Personally, I’d rather stick to the moderation we have now than risk having every thread started by LDV being locked due to a mod with the mentality of someone like Lick or Flop assuming that she is trolling rather than making a helpful thread. Ignoring trolls is easy enough, and helpful threads will always keep rising to the top (you should know this better than anyone, since you have two threads on the first page), but being individually targeted by a mod with his/her authoritative powers is virtually unmanageable and unacceptable in my opinion.

i turn to your logic, try to imagine a tyrant player as a mod in the forum, now most likly he will be from an alliance.
do you believe it will be ok? i can see the future posts about how this mod delete topics made by the other alliance, and let the once of his to stay, or anything like that.
This is a legitimate concern. The appearance of fairness is just as important as fairness itself. I think if two new moderators were promoted at the same time, then it will help with the appearance of fairness. In a thread about Knowing Eyes, for example, she (right? she?) declined to moderate the thread so that she did not appear biased. If we have two new moderators, then I think it will help people believe that the moderators are trying to be fair.

LDV would be a disaster. Too involved, too immature. And I say that with all fondness.
I absolutely understand why you might think this and why other players will agree with you. LDV’s humor is unusual and she is vocal but somehow secretive. Are you sure LDV is female, for example? Really? Trolling is inciting people just to cause drama. I have not read all of LDV’s posts, but I don’t believe she trolls—I think she has a subtle and sometimes-dry sense of humor. Finally, there is a difference between moderator actions and normal posting. If LDV (or any moderator) abuses their moderator powers, we can be sure that the Tyrant community will quickly cause a riot (or petition!).
I nominate Zblenber89, although I am not sure if he wants it. He is a Kongregate forum lurker, but is active and vocal in many other mediums, such as chat, irc, and on TnT (without his help, TnT would not have had any success.)
No nomination for me? I am hurt Hunter, I would have thought my rigourous anti- Tyrant No Troll posts would have earned me a nomination. Now I will reflect on if it was worth the time.
