Yesterday, I updated Chrome to 21.0 (Windows 7 64 bits) and now I can’t use my save with this browser. Fortunately, with Firefox 14.0.1, I have no problem to use these. For example, with “Creeper World: Evermore” I have 260 “Missions Won” (Dreamscape Stats button in-game, not on the kongregate leaderboard) with Firefox but only 1 with Chrome on the same PC. Anybody with this pb ?

You can make Chrome use the non-native Flash Player by disabling its Flash plugin. To do so, create a new tab, type “about:plugins” in the search bar, search for the Flash folders and disable the one with “[…]PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll” in the location (It should be the first one) while leaving others intact. Keep in mind that doing so has a drawback as Flash Player no longer will update automatically meaning you’ll have to do so manually from now on.

I have experienced the same problem, though do not wish to keep running an old version with (publically available!!!) security flaws.
Any chance someone knows the location of the old save files (which must still exist as firefox can access them) and the location of the new save files? A simple copy-paste will make the world a happier place then!

First, you need to make sure you have hidden folders ‘on.’ To do this, go to ‘folder settings’ and make sure the “show hidden folders” is check-marked.
Your saves from Kongregate are stored as .swf files in your computer. ‘Search’ for the folder called “chat.kongregate.com” or for “0014” or “4419.” And there you will see all the saves your computer has from Kongregate!

From the context of the post, I figured you were on a Windows as well; but if you’re on a Mac, follow the steps in this thread:

You have to copy-paste files from “Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects” into a folder called “Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects”.

That should be it, simply copy all save folders from the first section here and Chrome should load saves normally once again.

I cannot find a map “chrome” in my c drive even though I have hidden folders on, and I searched for the map chat.kongregate.com (including in hidden folders) having only one result. Yet, I still lost all of my saves. Should I create this map?

No, that’s not quite right…the Chrome\User Data\Default …etc. folder tree is found in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google; it doesn’t belong on the root.

To sum up this thread, since many people seem to be having this problem.
Go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects
There should be a couple folders with random letters in caps. Keep this window open.
Now open a new window and go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects\<RANDOM LETTERS FOLDER>
Now go back to the first window and go into each of the random lettered folders and copy and paste the folder chat.kongregate.com into the randomly lettered folder in the second window. If there are files with the same name, Copy and Replace. If the file name paths are too long, don’t sweat it.

This worked great! I was sad when my saved games disappeared in Chrome but still showed up fine in IE and Firefox…

Using Windows XP I had to find the chat.kongregate.com folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects and had to move them to C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects\8GY849ZD
XP does not appear to have a “so what” button when the warning about long filenames appears, it just aborts the copying process. So I had to wait for the error, search for the long name in the old folder, open the containing folder, move up one more folder and then delete the containing folder, restart the copying process and wait for the next error. It wouldn’t just delete the long file name from the search results. I’m guessing this is because delete also does not recognise the long name.

May I ask a question that has most likely been addressed but in terms I don’t understand. If I have been happily playing gemcraft chapter 0 and then one day nothing is loaded in the save files, why oh why does this happen? I am not computer literate so my frustration level is triggered rather quickly. Even if you tell me why…the fix on Chrome mentioned in here seems to be going right over my fuzzy brain. Anyone care to hold my hand for a step by step fix???

1) First, make sure that your windows explorer is set to show hidden files. For Windows XP and Vista, go to “tools” on top of the explorer window and click “folder options” in the dropdown menu. When the folder options menu loaded, click the “view” tab which will show a list of settings. Scroll down this list and check “show hidden files and folders” in the “hidden files and folders” section. Windows 7’s steps are similar to what was described formerly except that the “tools” button is replaced by the “organize” one.
2) When it is done, go to your main drive (Usually called C) in windows explorer and search for “chat.kongregate.com”. A few results should appear. Enter the one with “[…]AppData\Roaming \Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects[…]" in it and copy its content. To copy everything, press down shift, click the first and last files to select them all, right-click and select “copy”.
3) Go back to your main drive and search for “chat.kongregate.com” again. Pick the result with “[…]AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\PepperData\Shockwave Flash[…]” in its location. When you’re here, paste what you copied from the first folder here.
If the search function doesn’t work, you can manually search for it but it’ll take a bit more time. For the first location, go to your main drive on windows explorer. Then, go to “users”. From here, go to the folder with your computer account name. Then, go to the “AppData” folder. Enter the “roaming” folder. From here, go to the “Macromedia” folder. When you’re here, go to the Flash Player folder. Go to “Shared Objects”. Here, you should find one folder with seemingly random letters and numbers. Clicking it will lead to saves of all the websites you’ve ever visited. Check the list for “chat.kongregate.com” and enter the folder. When you’re here, copy its content (Click the first and last item while holding the shift button to select all). Now go back a few steps by clicking the “back” button until you reach the “AppData” folder and click the “local” folder. From here, go to Google (It should be on the bottom of the list) and, from “Google”, go to “Chrome”. When you’re here, enter “user data”. Then, go to “default”. From here, go to “Pepper data” and then “Shockwave Flash”. When you’re here, go to “WritableRoot”. Then, go to “#SharedObjects”. In this folder, you should find a folder with seemingly random letters and numbers. Enter it, go to “chat.kongregate.com” and paste the content of the first location here.

This thread can save lives (I mean it)! It would be nice if Kongragate sticked it, at least for some time, or maybe there should be a link to this thread on a sticky post. I KNOW it’s Google’s fault, but why not? It would also reduce the amount of ppl asking about the same thing…

The post about lost game progress in the technical support FAQ has recently been edited to include a solution to the Chrome issue, so a sticky isn’t necessary here anymore ^_^
