[SOLVED] Kongregate infected?

I couldn’t say anything about being sure of this, but whenever I load a page on Kong, my web filter starts complaining about an additional page(?) that it blocks from loading because it’s ‘malicious.’ I’m not certain of what’s going on, or what end it’s on, but it only happens when I load pages here, so I figured I’d mention it here before I emailed support.

Kongregate is a safe website, so you shouldn’t expect any malware here. However, users can link to harmful websites, which sometimes causes the antivirus to go active. Could you tell the exact page in which this message appears so the admins can check it out?

Here too.

Avast complaints on every page about some malicious link:

Using avast here too, and it’s the same link. Thanks for corroborating.

What Kongregate.com page are you experiencing the issue on?

All of them.

Have you run a virus scan? If all pages are being flagged as malicious, it makes think it’s your computer instead.

It’s only on Kongregate, though, and RobHoi is having it happen to him, too, which makes me think that it is not my computer.

Same here, also from avast. Might be false-positive.

Indeed.

On second though, I’d say that this seems to be the case.

Kongregate probably has a (legitimate and harmless) background process running that Avast doesn’t like.

I would assume that it is harmless, which is why I’m still replying to this (which makes the page attempt to load again,) but I figured that it would be a good idea to bring it up so that it could theoretically be fixed.

I’m getting the same problem.

I’ve forwarded this thread on, the issue will be looked into and addressed. :)

In other words, necro bumping isn’t just annoying, but can be risky? =p

i just got that same warning when i came to THIS VERY PAGE! i think it’s hiding in the advertisements-again.

If what trickyrodent said was the full story, then it’s not a matter of ads. Google hasn’t updated their database to unflag Kongregate.com (the entire site is flagged if any part of it is considered a risk, and that includes images hosted elsewhere that are hotlinked within a forum thread).

Just wait another day or so, that’s usually how long it takes after Google’s been contacted to review/unflag a site.

The problem is gone. Avast does not complain anymore.

It was a tracking script from what I’ve gleaned from other sites that had the same issue.

And it WAS Kong. Only here was setting off Avast like the Fourth of July.

Literally EVERY other page.

Going mental yesterday, not a peep today.

Hey guys— So, this became an issue a couple days ago. There was a forum post from 2009 (yes, really) that made Google flag us. We’ve removed it, and have asked them to recheck the page so people won’t keep getting these flags.

Here’s Google’s side of the story: http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kongregate.com%2Fforums%2F2%2Ftopics%2F70348&client=googlechrome&hl=en-US.

But for now— the site is safe, even though your browser doesn’t know it. :-)

To anyone still insisting that it’s Kongregate, follow that link to the Google documentation. It specifically lists the source as funnypix.ca, which implies that the offender was an image hosted on that domain and hotlinked here in a forum thread. That’s not on Kong’s servers at all. Google has often flagged entire domains due to external images being hotlinked on pages within those domains simply because they are instantly accessible.

Seems to me that is was a false positive detected by Avast. See:

Leave it to OT to cause Kongregate to be put under the scope.
