Solved!- Having Trouble with 41 Hyphens

Edit: Problem solved!

The problem is that each post can have maximum of 40 hyphens. Once you put in the 41st hyphen, everything falls apart, and you see the original code, minus all the break lines. For an example, see these two posts in this thread:

The only difference between the two is this was the word hyphen was replaced with an actual hyphen. That small difference causes the problem. I hope this helps other people. I’ve renamed the thread from “Having Trouble with Forum Posts” to “Solved!- Having Trouble with 41 Hyphens” so that when other people search for similar problems in the Technical Forum they will be more likely to see this thread, since the word “hyphen” was the first thing I searched for.

I’m an Alliance leader in an Alliance in Legacy of a Thousand Suns. To help my Alliance, I have a forum I use. I did some experimentation, and found out that for some reason if I remove one of the hyphens from “legacy-of-a-thousand-suns” that there is no problem, though that does ruin the link. I’ve also looked through the formatting guide , but didn’t see anything related to this. Nor did I find a previous thread in the Technical Trouble forum.

This link works fine in this post , but when I try to put it in this other post in any place the post just runs together without any spaces. The next post in this thread will show what it looks like when I add the link. I will also add a post after that showing what it looks like without the link in case changes are made to the post I’m having trouble with.

The only change between the two posts is the addition of the problem link between

Here are some helpful links for starting the game off:

- Tactics that should be used in raids. Basically, it says to use EdC chain for all 50, 100, 250, or 500 man raids, Asymmetrical Warfare for Personal and 10 man raids, and to never use Pursuit of Excellence unless you are the one who started the raid, or the raid creator asked for it to be put up.

Alliance Rules

There aren’t too many alliance rules, only seven. Miscellaneous

Some misc information. If you want to post a raid privately to someone in-game, or post it in Alliance chat, you only need the “kv_raid_id” and after posted. This can be done by clicking the Red Alert Button for a raid, pasting it in chat or the URL, deleting everything before “kv_raid_id”, then copying that into the message or Alliance chat.

Another very useful thing is http://www.kongregate.com/pages/formatting, which will show how to format posts in this thread. If you want to do things like make links that only involve clicking a single or several words, making bold or italicized words, even making headers, boxes like this and the previous paragraph are in, or even posting images, then that page will explain everything. Then again, the rest of the posts should be simple, but if you want to post a screenshot in this forum, then that page will show you how.

After a certain number of hyphens, the textiles break; I think it’s 20. To make thing easier, you can shorten the URLs. This is the URL for this thread:

Thanks adv0catus, that was the problem. I changed some of the dates from using hyphens to being spelled out, and that did the trick.

Also, did some testing. The upper limit of hyphens that can be present is 40. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16-1-18-19-20-
21-22-23-24-25-26-27-28-29-30-31-32-33-34-35-36-37-38-39-40-

If you do more, it falls apart, and you see the original code, minus all the break lines.

For example, once you have the 41st hyphen, everything collapses.
