Important information about red chat lights and non-working badges.

If you are not receiving badges, and your chat light is red, this may be caused by playing through a domain name that is not www.kongregate.com.

We have many additional domain names and subdomains, and you can also access Kongregate directly through our IP. If the URL you are playing from does not start with "http://www.kongregate.com/" your chat light will remain red and you will not be able to collect any cards or badges.

This means you should not play on Kongregate directly from an IP, at ‘congragate.com’, ‘fb.kongregate.com’ or any other domain/sub-domain other than "www.kongregate.com"

This has probably existed as a bug for a very long time, but we’ve just now pinpointed it. Please do us a favor and spread the word if you see folks complaining of badge problems in chat.

(Note: Not all red chat light issues are caused by this domain problem. You could also potentially have a corrupted Flash player that needs to be reinstalled. If you are having a red chat light, but are playing from a URL that begins with "http://www.kongregate.com/..." you should reinstall Flash by following the instructions here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157 and then reinstalling from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer)

Update: This issue has been mostly resolved by plugging in some redirects on our server. You’ll notice now if you try to play from congragate.com, it will automatically redirect you to http://www.kongregate.com

However, there may still be a few open domains that do not redirect and they will still have this problem, so I’ll leave the thread up, but I’ll decrease the caps :)

Ok, opened the ports for chat, uninstalled and reinstalled my flash player, and I have the right domain. I am still getting the red light on the chat screen. I wasn’t able to get one of the badges, that is what bought me to this thread.

After doing the above and restarting the computer I got the badge. No message, it was just there. I don’t think I have missed any other badges that I should have got. Should I worry anymore about the red light? Everything seems to be working fine now. I got the badge that Kong wasn’t giving me anyway.

Edit: Ok, it must be my crappy internet. It is green now… shrugs

Is it normal for the chat light to be green for everything but one game? (In this case Epic War). It’s not about domain names btw as far as I’m aware.

I can’t get the badge for Tactics 100 Live and I tried refreshing, uninstalling and reinstalling flash, 2 different computers and restarting both of them. The red light is always on. Is there anything else I should try?

when i enter to game the spot is red after some time it yellow and rarely it is green the chat dont conect too and only when i reset my computer the badges works i know it my computers problem but before kongregate upgraded the page it dont work good i think before the uprade it was beter

My Safari browser reports the following errors which prevent chat from connecting:

Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://www.kongregate.com/games/Ninjakiwi/bloons-tower-defense-3 from frame with URL http://a.kongregate.com/games/Ninjakiwi/bloons-tower-defense-3/frame/1224957525978?gameplays_count=3&user_id=296750&username=edgeofnite. I wonder how to make chat flash app work through a proxy server. I am unable to alter my proxy server, and I am unable to go to Internet without proxy, and seems that your chat app does a direct request to Kongregate servers omitting any proxy settings in the browser. The game is playable, however. Tried that on IE7 and Firefox. Can I do something to instruct your flash app to use proxy?

Check if

Port 5222 and 5229 on of1.kongregate.com

are open. Post in a seperate thread and not the sticky if you want someone spotting your plea of help.
