So would you work in a haunted mall for money?
Like say the pay is fairly decent (you can retire twice as early), and you're paid to sit inside this haunted mall for like eight hours a night, and don't have to (or rather can't) do any work or anything besides watch the mall and what happens there (like say the mall is haunted, but the spirits are relatively peaceful to the first person there at night, but if anymore than one person at night is there (i.e. a burglar breaks in) anyone besides the first person gets horribly disassembled and reassembled as merchandise, and the owners of the mall wants to take advantage of these evil spirits to be a perfect anti-theft/intrusion security system by having one person (you) sitting there, and have the mall spirits dispose of anyone who shouldn't be there at night (i.e. everyone except you)).
Like the mall randomly jump scares you (i.e. clothing mannequines will suddenly dash towards you and stop suddenly when they're in arms reach, television monitors will display videos of people you know being disfigured, you hear random cries for help or fists banging on the glass, and blood will randomly drip out of plants, cracks, your own nose/mouth (in completely non fatal amounts, but enough that it'll ruin whatever you're wearing) etc.), but the evil spirits inside the mall won't do you any long lasting harm (at worst, they inconvenience you a bit) so long as you watch the mall and generally pay attention.
Also if you sleep, use your phone, or bring in any activities to bypass the time, the mall gets aggressive on you in a violent manner that you would probably want to avoid if you don't want to be reconstructed as a chair (since the evil spirits are all hard at work haunting (and they're also the souls of all the former top mall cops who have taken their jobs so seriously they've refused to ascend to any higher existences in favor of continuing the watch even after death), and they feel a slacker who parades around the title of mall cop, but doesn't watch the mall is a charlatan who tarnishes the proud name of The Order of the Mall Cops (a cult-like pseudoreligious organization whose members devote their entire being to the concept of the mall, and half their afterlife just basically takes place keeping their chosen mall safe during the night, and the other half of their after life involves gorging on spiritual doughnuts in the afterlife mall break lounge while the sun is up and their power is at their lowest) and should be thoroughly punished far more than even more than any thief).

I mean, it was a decent gig up until I was told I couldn't read books on the job. I'll take my original job path, eight hours of attempted trauma a night sounds too boring to deal with, even for low six figures. I only have so much time y'know, can't waste it all on watching ghosts try to rip off their favorite horror movies.

eh, for what it's worth, if you do the job well, there is no bodily harm involved *and* nobody wants to talk to your manager
so i guess that beats any work in a mall during daytime

I've never played it (nor heard of it actually) before, but looking up videos, the premise of it does seem interesting. It seems like it would be convenient ingame if the store automatically killed off the customers. Although seeing this, I can kind of imagine a Consumer Vs. Employee game similar to a Plants Vs. Zombies game.

@Haunted Mall
And then, one night, a young girl decides to stow away in one of the shops --- and she was there before you arrive on your shift!

Hey, old friends! I'm returning for a short while, since my school is pretty much all but finished, I've secured a spot for myself in university, and I won't have anything else to do in quarantine except read. And I don't want to read all fuckin day.

However, this being a forum, you may indeed find yourself reading even more.

Yeah, but say, if this were a story, I get to have a part in seeing it play out rather than having it laid out in front of me! See what I mean?

Going into the Faculty of Arts to start with, taking things like English and History, and then I'm going into the Faculty of Education after that - I want to be a teacher.
