The amount of active players on Kong seems to have dwindled significantly. So it's hard to imagine it picking up from its current state, and it seems Steam/Mobile will have the main playerbase, or at least has the potential.
Does this essentially signal the death of the free Kong version? To keep playing the game "seriously" we must purchase Steam/Mobile?
And a related question to the devs, is there a deadline on spending 10$ here to get steam/mobile for free, or a deadline transferring the Kong account to steam/mobile?

LevgreG brings up some valid queries. I'm wondering the same now, too.
Would love to see, at the very least, plans for major updates and/or additions to gameplay or cards which I think this game now very much needs as player numbers dwindle on Kong.

Good questions. One thing that may help is that we support cross-platform play. So even if there end up being more players on Steam/mobile and less on Kongregate, you can still play on Kongregate if you want. You'll be playing vs. Steam/mobile players though so obviously you won't see them in the Kongregate chat.
We do not plan on retiring the Kongregate version as long as there are players here. It's pretty easy for us to keep the Kongregate version up-to-date with any changes we make, so we will. If we release new content for the Steam or mobile versions, we will also release it for the Kongregate version.
No deadline for spending $10 here to get Steam/mobile for free or for copying your account.
As long as there are enough players across all platforms combined to justify continued development on the game, we will continue to do so for all platforms. Once we finish getting the game onto Steam and mobile, we can turn our attention back to adding new content/gameplay. We have a long list of things we'd like to do with the game (including many from the Suggestions forum thread).
Thanks!

I don't think the playerbase here is that small yet, but it's good to know we won't be forced onto Steam

The Kongregate version will still have some advantages that might encourage players to play here:
- Kongregate chat is fun.
- Custom in-game chat messages are a Kongregate-only feature at the moment.
- It's free, obviously. No other platform will be free to play (most likely).
- You can spend to get stuff more quickly, if you want to. No other platform will have this option (most likely).
- You can craft cards/rivals with Science. The premium version doesn't have Science, so you never get to choose what you get.

That's really good to know. Thanks!

Since there is no science, what do steam/mobile players get for monthly reward based on rank?

I guess I missed something here...how did people find out about this news?
How will we be notified? I bought the campaign when I first started playing, so just want to understand how to watch for the release (since I would likely prefer to play on Steam).
Great game btw!
