Wowsa.

It seems that a method of opening epic fields is not as simple as before, there will be multiple tasks to be done during the course of the level. But, there is an active pause which can seriously help. Hmmm. Excited.

I’m excited too, in an earlier post though, he said that there would be a pause button, but the monsters will still move (really slowly) so not good to use it excessively. Looks great

He said shadows will move, but not monsters (regular monsters). So you should be careful with a shadow around, but you might still be pretty safe should you live-pause the game with no shadow nearby.

I am thinking that there a pause and then there a time stop. Like in labyrinth when you pause the monster to reset gems and or build gems as you want. The Shadow will move them. I bet clicking something like Menu, when you can’t do anything to your game to move gems and stuff is a true pausing the game.

I like the secondary pool, it seems helpful.

I still think I’ll get stuck with the shadows though.

This requires a lot of playtests to determine if a shadow would be a pushover or a difficulty wall. I guess nothing would be impassable though. And yes, secondary XP pool is for grinder lovers :)

I don’t think I am to worried about the shadow. It seems like it needs to be handled a bit smart. You can’t just muscle your way through. Since you need some backup gems, which mean, you need some low level twin gems and such.
I really can’t wait to try, and who knows what may changed thanks to who ever lucky beta tester he gets to work on some of the tweaks.

Or even just a ton of grade 1-grade 2 distractor gems, depending on how smart the shadow’s targeting algorithm is….

True, but I am thinking, you still need some power to kill it also.

I think some strategy will be needed.

So… cyan at the start, random other powerdul gems near the back, some other gems for shadows and stuff.

Flag Post

If some maps will lack cyan and have a lot of regenerating monsters, the game will be pretty fun.

Also I have spotted an interesting ability on a giant monster: “Spawns a beacon on death, XXXX beacon HP”. This might quickly get out of control!

Beacons, thousands of them!

I think a situation is possible where beacons that disable nearby gems will cover the entire map with their areas of influence. Thank God and gamedev for gem bombs BOOOOOOM!

I hope the good news when summer ends is that the game is ready soon, i know it wont be, but one an hope :D

Can’t wait!!!
There seems to be SO MUCH MORE FUN than even in GCL!!!
And finally ACTUAL UPGRADES that YOU choose!
I SO LOVE such an RPG-ish game style.
And in GC, it’s SUPERB!

Flag Post

What makes it best, is it hopefully allow for more choices. I remember for GCL, everyone like, you have to pick these 3 color only, and it did not allow for much vieration in what you did. As long as you wanted to last long this is.

Flag Post

Yeah…
When you come to defeating actual full endurances, you MUST rely on Yellow-Lime (with a POSSIBLE Orange, I managed without it, or rather got utterly bored by POOL-BUILDING beyond few MILLIONS).

Ah, I just can’t wait. The game looks like yet another infinitely playable gem. I’m still playing this game just for fun and to make some crazy scenarios!

Hmm. So he removed “secondary XP pool” feature entirely – weird, how come it got him errors? It’s just a pooled total extra that sometimes adds to total, sometimes doesn’t. Or did he get delevels using that?

Seeing that screen I can say he made “wasps” very powerful, as no towers were placed judging by mana spent. So they will probably be a worthy addition.

Wow, a trailer! Even as blurry as it is, it displays a huge set of monsters, a tricky enough level layout (I liked the first one very much – 4 converging spiral arms!) and something that looks like several shadows at 01:02. Sadly, nothing more, but hey, a video! (I don’t get it why 6 hours of Youtube uploading – is it fullHD inside?)

Flag Post

Yes resolution goes up to 1080, so maybe 60MB for the vid in mp4 or something, depends on up connection (that’s like 2kB/s upload though, probably faster to phone and read off the hexcode).

Interesting that the gamefield seems more dynamic, hopefully doesn’t have a tedium = win (GC0, GC1) or one option of the many = win (GCLabyrinth) problem.
