Hi there,
I have a COMPLETED GAME that needs to be reskinned due to the art being pretty crappy. It’s not a big job so it shouldn’t take that much time. Currently it is skinned as a Spaceship Game but I’m open (and I prefer) it being reskinned as something else like a supersoldier running through enemy territory or a mouse killing pigeons. How exactly to reskin the game will be determined later through a super awesome joint brainstorm session.
Stylistic Preferences: Something rated G, cartoonish is preferred.
I will need in total:
- 8 enemies
- player sprite
- 3 giant bosses
- two types of missiles
- background stuff
- menus and a level map
- cool in game UI
The current game style and art implementation should be ignored… I’m willing to put in significant effort to implement whatever is necessary for our future graphical choices.
Timeframe: As soon as the art is finished we can look for a sponsor, so the sooner the better. I’m not looking at a specific deadline but I’m sure a dedicated artist can put all this together in a week or two weeks tops. If it takes longer I’m fine with it, as long as I get regular updates to know what’s going on.
Revenue sharing will be 40% Programmer (me), 40% Artist, 10% Designer (also me), 10% sounds and music (already done)
Here’s a screenshot of what I have currently:

You should add:
Stylistic preferences (if any) — such as cartoonish, pixel-style, realistic, etc. If there are no preferences, that should be stated as well.
How is the background implemented? As tiles? Large images stitched together? Random items on basic background colour (to use your current theme as example, just placing stars/planets)?
Does the artist have control over reskin choices (so they could make, for example, a frog with bugs as the “enemy” if they wanted to)?
Other aspects would be determined/covered after the artist is selected, I assume, but the above seem quite relevant to who might want (or be able) to do it.
Also, currently your game (judging by the example pic) has static actor images that are rotated. Is animation possible/desirable (if not, this greatly restricts theme, as reskinning to a soldier that looks like he’s gliding around instead of running wouldn’t really be a step up, IMO — though you could just have him stand there with a static background and attack incoming robots/tanks)?

Well, I gotta say that I sure appreciate ThePeasant’s project brief! I’m half tempted to volunteer simply because he’s so organized.
Other people looking for a service partner should use this as an example. (The only thing it’s missing is a time framework… is there a deadline, or how quickly does he want to see it completed?)

thanks pete, i’ll add that into the brief as well.
Time frame is… as soon as the art is finished the game will be released! The sooner the better. Nothing more specific than that.

Sounds interesting, especially as your game is already completed and just needs new art. Cartoon images are easy to make, so that’s a plus.
Perhaps I can help. I don’t have any cartoon images of my own to show you, but you’re welcome to view my 2D and 3D art. If you like what you see, we can discuss the details of your project. If some other artist offers a style that is more to your liking, no problem, go for it. :)
Edit: Hmm. I just realized we have the same avatar. I should change mine. :P

too late, I changed my avatar to a fancy Kawairun one :D
Your art is really nice, but it’s all on the… uh… creepy side. Can you do cartoony? Do you have anything of a lighter style you can show me?

Sure, please give me 24 hours, more or less. I’ll make two or three and post them on my deviantart account. I’ll reply again to this thread when I’m done.

It took me longer than I thought it would, but I finally finished one cartoon. It’s not as refined as I would have wanted it to be, but it’s not too bad either, in my opinion.

Please let me know what you honestly think. Don’t worry about couching your words. I take criticism well.

Wow, that’s nice! You really have talent! I’m sorry I can’t give anything more constructive, I’m not an artist :P
But uh… it’s still creepy lol… I mean you’ve got a pile of dead bodies.
anyways, I found someone else to help me on this project. Good luck to you on your journey.

Heheh. I don’t think I’ll be invited to collaborate on a sequel to Reachin’ Pichin anytime soon. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, and best of luck on your project. :)

It could use some reworking around the edges with the orange background, it’s pixellated, and more contrast between the hammer and the orange background. The guy is kid-sized with the (dubious) face of an adult, the girl is at least twice his height, which might be intended, I don’t know. Her skirt is too low, you would see the crack of her ass if you were on the other side. Her thighs are too short for her body and her arms (not forearms) too long. I think. It’s hard to tell. Her hip looks dislocated. Her head might be on the small side. The guy is holding his hammer too low for the weapon not to topple over unless the handle is buried in at least a foot of corpses. Besides the skull, the background is flat.
Take everything I say with a pound of salt, I am not an artist, but since you all but asked for people to point out the weaknesses, I thought I’d get the discussion started. Again, I’m not trying to be a dick, even if I sound like one. I’m a no-talent hack when it comes to graphics and I wouldn’t be able to produce art which is half as good as yours. It takes a lot of guts to post something you made out in the open for the world to deconstruct, and I respect that. I am also glad that the first half-dozen respondents pointed out that your work is, indeed, good.

No worries, Ace. As I mentioned earlier, I take criticism well. In fact, I agree with most of your points. (Not sure about the hip being dislocated.) I would add that the woman’s neck doesn’t seem to be properly aligned and that the image is generally too unpolished to post on my deviantart account. I gave myself approximately 24 hours to come up with a cartoon, only to realize that 24 hours wasn’t enough for me to make decent art.
Anyway, for those who are curious, I had intended to post not one but three pictures, all of which feature these two adventurers — a ridiculously strong midget wielding an oversized mallet and a beautiful giant of a woman with wizard powers. Alas, i didn’t have time to make more than one cartoon. Perhaps I’ll get around to painting them some day, but for now, I’m busy making my own Flash game. :D
Cheers.
