Sounds difficult. 3d and flash typically dont mix well.

it’s possible, but it just takes up a lot of space in the game. if you were to do 3D, your graphics would be somewhat crappy, and you probably wouldn’t be able to have verymuch else in the game such as music.

Olaff, if your truly want to have this game become a reality, you will need at least some form of benefit to the game creation. For every programmer out there, there is over 100 idea threads. Two suggestions
A. Put an extreme effort into the description of the game, power ups, plot, etc. If its less than 1/3 of the first page in length, the thread has a 80% mortality rate. Not including the chance the game will never be finished or EVEN STARTED, it would be approximately 96%. The odds aren’t in your favor bud so you better make sure the description is damn good.
B. Take the extra step and learn flash or programming. If you have even he most remote skill to assist with the game development such as even music, your chances increase dramatically. If you’d like to learn how do flash, I’d be more than happy to help you. But first you will need to download the trial or something.

If it truly is an “epic idea” and a game that absolutely has to be made, there are other technologies out there besides Flash. Try looking into 3D game engines. There are even some (I can think of at least three) that will allow you to run your game in a browser.

I’m guessing unity and java applets. What’s the third?

I thought Shockwave had dissapeared, but reading up on it it has a far faster rendering engine, hardware accelerated 3D support and surround sound to name but a few interesting features. Why does Flash not have this sort of stuff?

Performance-wise flash is far superior to shockwave.

Could you expand on that? It didn’t really answer my question.

Shockwave has a bunch more flashy features like that, but as a platform it is much slower and harder to develop on.
It’s like having a Microwave-Toaster-Blender. Sure it does all this stuff, but it doesn’t do it very well.

I said why didn’t Flash have those features. Surely giving the Flash player Shockwave’s faster rendering engine isn’t going to make development any different?

Actually I was thinking of Unity, Shockwave, and Torque 3D which now has the ability to publish to web browsers.
Torque and Director (shockwave) are fairly pricey, but the indie version of Unity is now FREE! If you don’t own a copy you’re really missing out.

I’ve always found Director to be fun and easy to work with.
