Ok, so here’s the deal. I am a computer science student and I like to make games in my spare time. I consider my self a decent programmer but I’m not all that artistic. I started a development blog recently to showcase some simple games I’ve created but I lack the motivation to completely finish and polish any of the games.
That being said, I am looking for an artist to help me out with finishing up some of the projects posted on my blog or if they have any ideas for a new game that they’d like to contribute art for, I’d be glad to do the programming. Another role the artist has to fulfill is that of a motivator. I started the blog in an attempt to motivate myself but it hasn’t had very many hits or comments so that hasn’t worked out so well.
As for the art, I’m trying to stay away from the vector style graphics found in most of the flash games. I’m looking for something more stylized and “artsie”.
So if anyone is interested in helping me out please let me know as well as link to some of your work. Thanks :)
btw, here’s my blog: http://zylum.net |

Im not an artis, but I looked at the blog, and I gotta say that you could program some pretty good games if you get a good artist. Too bad you wouldnt be able t opost them here on Kong… |

Yeah it sucks that Kong doesn’t allow for Java games. That would probably motivate me a lot. I emailed them about possibly allowing a Java premium game but haven’t heard back for a while now. They probably have enough premium games being made and java is probably pretty low on their priorities.
When I started programming, I self taught myself actionscript 1.0 back in the day so I do have some experience with Flash. Though for the ideas that I have, I just don’t see Flash being able to handle what I have in mind thus I have refrained from learning AS 3.0 for now. |

well, good look making money with java lol. Maybe you can make a promo type game using AS1 and an older version of flash to get people to come see your blog, where you could host an awesome java game, but I probably dont even know what I’m saying. |

sigh How old are you petso66? Do you have a portfolio or example work?
In case anyone is interested, I have recently learned AS 3.0 and am still willing to collaborate with a good artist. AS 3.0 is fairly similar to Java so it was easy to pick up. I should be able to make games similar to those on my blog fairly quickly, though I am more interested in making something with more depth as to increase the monetary value of the game. I have many ideas ranging from quick and easy to quite complex but am still willing to code up an artists idea if that’s what it takes to get a good artist on board. Of course all profits will be split accordingly.
I should have a simple flash demo game up on my blog within a day or two… |

hey zylum, I’d love to help you with your game. It won’t cost you anything but my logo somewhere on your game. I’m a designer looking for something to do and this sounds like it’s perfect. |

Alright, check out what i have so far . That’s the style I am looking for, so if you can come up with some more unique creatures in that vector art style it would be great. Post them in this topic and we’ll go from there. |

Nqkoi1 and JudeMaverick make alot in that sort of style. Possibly contact them?
Although judging by the quality of the image you posted in the art forum, I think you own thing is great. But obviously you do not… |

It’s not that I don’t like what I come up with, it’s just that I’d rather do what I’m good at. That piece I posted in the art forum took me a good few hours :S Now doing the graphics for an entire game would take me forever, especially with animation. To put that into perspective, the games I made on my blog took a couple hours each as well, though most programmers I know would spend significantly more time than I would. Also, I’m assuming most artists wouldn’t spend hours on something as simple as I’ve done for the concept art. |

What kind of game will it be? Platformer? RPG? etc. |

That, my friend, is top secret at the moment. I should have a small demo of the engine up soon though. I spent my last free time making that concept art rather than finishing up the demo. |

Well, please tell us when you’re done with the demo. I could help with some character designs. |

Since I didn’t know what type of game you are making, I went with platformer and made a character that would be perfect for that genre. Sign Dude
I made it kind of like one of those guys that tell you how to play the game, except I didn’t think that your or my character would really talk so I gave him this crackly electric thing that I figured the ‘How to play’ text would go above. I didn’t stray too incredibly far from your concept art because, again, I didn’t know what style it would be in. You should get my next art when I’m done with updating computer and/or you tell me what genre it is in. After one or both of those happen, I will make radically different creatures with different colors, shapes and abilities. |

That’s pretty good. Right now I am just looking for a bunch of different badies from which I will choose to go in my game. You don’t necessarily have to make the characters with vector art, you can sketch them if you want as well. None of the art is final as the game will likely be in an isometric view. |
