Hi everyone. Looking for some flash/animation programmers, other artists too. (there is no money in this, free work. If the demo is a hit we’ll go from there.)

I’m an artist from Ky USA. I’m 23 years old. I’m an animal artist, including fantasy creatures. (not to good with humans) I have an ideas for a game but I don’t have any programing knowledge with flash or animation. Or a software to learn with. I was actually thinking of a card game, much like Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, and so on. But I want to make it different than those card games. I’m still thinking on how to do that, maybe have it where you can tag team with a friend, play on the same battle field. (you can tag team against one player or up to two) Beside creature cards, there will be energy cards, spells, armor, weapons, and so on. Also having a card that allows a monster to defend another monster on an upcoming attack. Or some monsters cards have that ability. Some have the ability to double attack too.

I can do detail works, or some not as detail. Traditional or digital art. I like drawing realistic creatures, but love a little of mixed detail art and not as detail for the game. That is why I was thinking of a card game. But I love to have the card character come to life when it’s in play, including attacking or defending itself so you can see the action. And having another creature depending other monsters in play. But I’m limited on knowledge on how to do this, and prefer to do art for the cards.

I prefer to do a demo for a site like Kongregate for others to play online for free. But for a full version they would have to go to the main “card game” website, sign up and pay a small fee monthly or yearly to play. I would really love this to be big enough one day that maybe a company would be interested in making the cards. So that one day you can buy them in Wal-Mart.

I have large dreams. This can be a very large project. I do have time to work on this, mostly on weekdays. As my real job isn’t to demanding since I’m a part time post office worker, and I work on every Sat. and just when they need me. It would prob. be great to have more than one artist too. Give the game some variety in art.

Some art for you too look at. (you’ll notice I do lots of horses and relate creatures. I have a love for them so they are the subject of most of my art) I choose some art for variety so you can see what I can do. For more, just look at my DA gallery. If someone is interested post here or email me.

You definitely do have large dreams. Hopefully they will come true. I would like to help you do some artwork and design. However, I do much less realistic stuff in flash. Here are a few examples:

hay! another person that does furry commishuns! lawl!

theres nothing wrong with having a big project in mind for your ultimate goal, but you should probably try working on something on a smaller scale to start off, so you get a feel of what exactly you are doing, and (ESPECIALLY if you plan on working in flash) you should try to learn at least basic programming/actionscript. it makes communication and cooperation infinitely easier.

.. not that im really in a position to give advice yet.. but im getting there XD

Hey this is still an active project XD it’s just that I am still looking for a competent artist to collaborate with as this is more of a larger scale project. In the meantime I have started another smaller project in order to stay productive.

On topic though… I have not programmed a card game before but from my general programming experience, I would imagine that programming it would be fairly straight forward. On the other hand, a card game (especially the with animations like you described) will need a lot of art assets which take a lot of time to create. Not only this but the design of the game with all the rules and balancing the game will also take a lot of time. There is another thread somewhere around here where someone had an idea to make a card game. One of the suggestions was to make a mock game with physical cards and test it and refine it with a friend until it’s fun to play as well as unique. Then you can start creating the art. Once you have some of the art done you can post your progress and look for a programmer to collaborate with. Showing that you have put effort into this will motivate the programmer as they don’t want to waste their time investment into a project that will flop.

The project never went through for me, and I moved on. The card game you mentioned would be the one Earthworm and I are working on. Unfortunately we have to wait until he gets a new computer :(

Yes, zylum, you have some very good points. I know the animation will be a pain..

I think I’ll start with working on rules for the game, create a catchy name for it, and then do some art for some future cards..

MoonlaughMaster, your art is fine. I would like different artists to give the game a kick. Esp. since each artist has their own style, I think it would help the game..

Thank you everyone for the tips and opinions. Hopefully you’ll see posting very soon with rules, a title, and some art.. hugs
