First off, a disclaimer. If your post doesn’t have to do with either asking for more of my work, offering to communicate VIA chat or whisper, or anything else that is “collaboraty” (you know what I am talking about, anything that actually advances us working together on a project) it will be reported to the report thread ASAP. If you respond to a post that would be reported, your post will also be reported. I want to keep this thread spam free, so you had better make sure you don’t spam. (That means you Darksimal. And no, telling me about how you like to write isn’t on topic). Also, to make sure you are fully aware of how I feel, even if you make a multiparagraph, well written essay about your project and why you want me to work on it with contact info and all the things I could possibly need, and then post a few spammish tidbits at the end, I will report the post to have the spammish tidbits deleted. I want this thread clean. Got it?

Now for the niceities, copied from the other topic.

So if anybody for a game needs help with writing, editing, or any text in a game (I can even help make instructions more intuitive) I would be more than willing to help.

For work, I have COCAK.blogspot.com with all of my articles, but if anybody wants to see some of my fiction work I could dig through my computer and see if I can find anything that I still have on there. If you are intrested, post on the thread and I will set up anything you need VIA whisper.

I was looking for more of a one time project (doing the editing for your games, for example) than being a full fledged editor at your games website. Still, it seems interesting.

Heh umm games don`t really contain that much text you know…instructions(which seem to be getting animated more and more),credits(no one would let their name be mistaken so..) and rarely story(which would not be more then a 10 job.

As someone posted in another topic, the lack of story in flash games is more due to lack of good ideas than anything else.

Several flash games make solid attempts at telling good stories…sometimes it just doesn’t come out too well. Indestruc2tank, I’m looking at you.

Anyways, I was wondering, Mils…we’re both writers looking for work. What do you think of chatting some time and throwing ideas around?

of course, idestruc2takn was based off of humor, you weren’t supposed to take the story seriously :P

Well, truth be told, I’ve been trying to get some friends of me to help co-write some things, just pieces of dialogue and whatnot for a couple future game ideas, and they’re so locked up in WoW right now that their creativity is all but non-existant. If you guys think you can write some humerous/satirical stuff I’d be curious to see what you can do. Mind you, these projects are a ways away, but I’d like to have you as contacts.

Whisper me for e-mail if you like.

You know nothing Indestruc2Tank has the best story and graphics ever.

lol nq.

we all know why you think that :P

i think if anything, games need MORE writing. just not poetry, thats boring.

“Poetry” is not always boring (and some would argue is rarely boring). Hell, I’d say The Raven is quite exciting and interesting, just as an extreme example.

I think the challenge with story, especially in Flash, is the intended audience (which is a point that mils has made before). Flash games are generally very ADD. They are quick games that can be played in small bursts. They are almost by definition non-immersive: they will never take up your whole screen and immerse you in its world. As such, most people don’t want to sit down to Flash games and read lots of text and watch lots of cut-scenes, as opposed to Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid, in which they are much more willing to do so. It’s a frame-of-mind thing more than the medium itself, but it does present some real challenges.

That said, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with providing some good, compelling writing in Flash games. Heck, check out Immortal Defense. Not a flash game, but it is a tower defense, and has an intriguing and compelling story to it (I’ve only played through 1/3 of it in the demo, but it is quite interesting).

yeah alot of games don’t have that much text unless it has a real storyline.

Indestruc2tank, I’m looking at you.

The punchline is good but the last boss and the ending is rather uhh… weird… :(

Might contact you if I really need you. May involve tedious animation and many potato chips.

Write a story for my game. writing skills are basically worthless compared to programming skills, So I ll pay you 5 cents

Deal? or did someone offer you more?
