I’m trying to make a game for my chemistry teacher, but it needs to be sort of puzzle oriented…not straight testing games like I’ve found all over. Also, I’d like it to contain many chemistry related minigames, not just a main game.

I’ve come up with an idea of a sliding puzzle game, but the tiles have atoms that you must arrange to create a molecule (or ionic compound). Also, I’ve thought of making pictures of molecules with a single extra atom (like H-O-C-H instead of H-O-H) and the player needs to find and remove the extra atom.

I need some help thinking of other ideas, I’m kind of stumped…

So…a basic run-down of what I want:

#Chemistry related minigames
#Such as sliding tiles
#Or extra atoms
#Puzzle related
#Not just tests

I’d appreciate some ideas plerz.

Have you seen Draco18s’ Flash Beryllium? You might be able to get some ideas of that.

Ya I’ve seen that. That was pretty cool. =) I need more of a puzzle concept, though. Not that I’m trying to steal from people, but…I don’t really get any puzzle type idea from that game.

If your scope includes organic chemistry, you could move enzymes around to get molecules close enough to bond, split apart, etc. In most covalent bonds, the atoms repel each other until they’re brought within a certain distance of each other. You could use DNA to express the enzymes you need. You could get into classic signalling pathways like the lac operon, and you wouldn’t be able to make more enzymes after a certain amount of glucose is present.

If it’s pure inorganic chemistry, you could just adjust parameters like heat, pH, proportions of different compounds etc, and just show a little window of molecules interacting, hopefully in a way headed towards a goal (like make thermite lulz). This would be much simpler and probably more what you’re after. Heat would make molecules move faster and get close enough to each other to bond, etc.

Hooray edutainment! Good luck, I hope it gets off the ground and impresses your teacher.
