its because of the jungles. This “Vietnam Civil War” had no enviroment for the Americans. Also, America had no reason to be in the Vietnam War/Conflict. IT WAS A VIETNAM CIVIL WAR/CONFLICT! When we had our civil war, did anybody help the north or south? NO!

super gamer, great britain actually traded and supported the south exclusively.

I think the publicity that the Tet Offensive got in the U.S. made the people think we were losing and want to pull out. Now granted, we did take significant casualties that, in themselves were worthy of pulling out.

Well, for one thing, we were sent in with shitty guns that kept jamming, we fought an enemy who was very resouceful in the jungle, traps, trenches, navigation and so on. the army doesn’t really give a damn about people who went out there, they bombed the place after a loss, (Which they should have done in the first place), and America fought a war that should have been left alone in the first place.

This. We lost before we even started.

The lack of support for the war in America was a big factor. I mean how can you fight a war, if no citizens want to fight? Also, the demoralizing newspaper headlines in America weren’t helping either….

It was ‘lost’ due to a lack of resolve on the homefront. Kookieman pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Yes. Although I wouldn’t say Britain supported the South exclusively throughout; Britain ended a lot of support after Antietam, and was technically neutral.

Anyways, the Vietnamese simply won because they had the will to fight, and we did not. The Vietnamese used childeren as suicide bombers for crying out loud. The Vietnamese deserved their victory to be honest, they worked hard for it and shed a lot of blood for it. The American lives lost were essentially in vain considering no one supported the war and the fact that Vietnam still fell to communism. It’s a shame we lost because of anti-war activists; if you don’t support what our country does, then leave. Don’t F*ck us over. Just go.

“Communism is a system that will destroy itself,”
communism ftw! runs into little hole

Communism is a system that will destroy itself

Except for the fact that, you know, the Soviet Union wasn’t communist.

Yes, the totalitarian socialist system the USSR ran would eventually destroy itself.

Why did the US lose the Vietnam War?

it lost because Rusha has been helping viets

Vietnam hardly won, however it is impossible to win against a guerilla enemy, with the morals of America.

Morale of america ? Bomb japan with atomic bombs…

I think because the US had over confidence back then. They took Vietnam for granted.

Flag Post

Because the Vietnamese and Vietcong had better morale and tactics.

The Vietnam war was “lost” because it is impossible to forcefully rule over a well armed, well motivated enemy with a great deal of popular support. The only military action possible under those conditions is destruction. Conventional armies can be obliterated, cities can be destroyed, and infrastructure can be disabled. However, all the guns and bombs in the world are impotent to make people like or appreciate an aggressor, especially when those weapons had been used to murder friends and family.

Right, you’ve completely swapped tactics. It’s pretty easy to forcefully rule over anyone if your stronger. They don’t have to like you.

Remove “well armed” and you can rule them.

They took Vietnam for granted.

Sure explains how we won just about every battle.

America did not lose in Vietnam. We left well before the south fell. It is more appropriate to say America left Vietnam halfway through. Had we stayed things may have been very different.

“America didn’t lose the Vietnam War because there is no such thing. There was no official declaration of war. It was the Tonkin Gulf Resolution that allowed the US to use any force necessary to protect itself after North Vietnam supposedly attacked a warship docked in the Tonkin Gulf. There was no declaration of war and it is more commonly referred to as the Vietnam Conflict. Either way, we didn’t lose. We simply were bored and decided to go back home and work harder on inventing PCs. Anyone complaining?”

Firstly, hehe funny. ^^
And you’re right about the war part, it’s actually officially referred to as an Action Policy. But I think this thread is trying to discuss why America left without having completed their main objective, therefore rendering the necessity to specify the conflict’s type, pointless. ;)

U.S lost because we just had to stick our noses where they don’t belong.

there’s sumthing u must pay attention to that wen the war happened that waz wen TV went live into the war if u may notice wars b4 that one there waz no ability to go live thus the wars would have been continued, however since ppl have seen the terrors of war thru the Vietnam war on TV…………let’s say (this is just an example) if the TV have been made in the Revolutionary war and that ppl could report live videos then we would have forfeited and still b colonies i don’t know about all other parts i don’t know about u, but i’m patriotic and i’m glad America is it’s own country

Despite the fact that your grammar annoys me, I agree with you. The “war” was not lost, the will of the people was.
