Guerilla warfare is why and how we lost ask any veteran they wouldn’t even know where to shoot at that being said if your in war hide in a tree and wait for enemies to walk by see how many you get that’s what Happened to us our ground forces got picked off from people they didn’t even know were there that’s guerilla warfare

They lost because people don’t like to be invaded.

Shouldn’t every invasion fail, then?

We had the machines to win in the air, but the Pentagon was clinging to the belief that dogfighting was dead and that the F-4 could remain the flying bus it was. It was stupid tactics and scared people in the Petagon that caused the loss, with constant bombing halts and useless assaults.

I wouldn’t think it’s based on the locals’ bravery as much as the determination, organization, technology, etc. of the invaders. Note the British and Romans on this point.

i simply think that you Americans lost the war because it got to expensive to remain there one $100 dollar light SAM can take down a 5million dollar helicopter and the lost of American lives as for the Russians just giving the north Vietnamese the tools without there own men only cost them the tools and guns but not there soldiers so it was quite cheap for them in terms of man power and because of the hippies or what ever the hell your can them started to talk peace and crap in turn less and less men started to enlist because the people of America lost the morality of the war unlike the wars or ww2 where every one knows that Hitler was inherit evil because of comics the comic of super fighting Hither and stuff actually help in the enlistment power of the US during that time so the super men role models was in the hearts of the people and there fight was the people fight but in Vietnam they never when there in fact some time they even told in there comics that the war there was a waste.

Politicians decided they knew more about war sitting thousands of miles away then generals on the front lines.

You pretty much have the idea. It was a political war that was taken out of the hands of the generals and taken over by politicians calling the shots. We didn’t exactly lose the war, we pulled out after the politicians achieved what they were after. Being Vietnam era (not actually in Vietnam) we were quite surprised by the action. America just up and pulled out leaving weapons and equipment in place. Although some of it was pushed into the sea, much of it was just left where it was sitting.

Yes it was an unpopular war, or as the politicians liked to call it, consulting. we were never supposed to actually fighting, but were there as advisers. How we went from advising to guerrilla warfare, I don’t know.

We didn’t lose dude. We just left. There was no “We surrender”. We just went into the country, FSU, and we left. The end. This is such a misconception. We never lost Vietnam. We never won, but we never lost either.

What the kind man above me said, we never lost, if anything the Americans won. The US did not lose a single battle and caused millions of casualties to the NVA.
War was also never declared, it was a policing action over the unproven attack on a USS Maddox. This means the US could not possibly surrender or even lose. It was the ARVN’s and south Vietnam’s war.
They also withdrew, they never lost. The good people back home protested the war to no ends which made politicians get involved. This screwed up strategies and plans because a politician from an ocean away thought they should only do things that looked good in the press. Somehow, the word broke out that the US military were doing nothing but killing babies (which was completely untrue) and the Marine core and the Army were disgraced.

To the title:

America never actually lost. The president just said, “We’re leaving bye.” That is not the same thing as surrenduring.

And you’re not actually fighting a war in Iraq, because war was never officially declared…

EDIT: Actually, if you think about it that way, that means the American military are terrorists in Iraq…

How does that make any sense? A military in another country makes them terrorists?

yep, that’s why we use the principle of mutually assured destruction. pretty twisted world we’re living in, eh?

That sums it up.

We lost because of television.
The Tet Offensive was crushed by our military, but the footage of dead americans and combat made the war unpopular. So even though the VietCong were totally crushed and the NVA had to take over and 80% of South Vietnam was pacified that was never reported and everyone thought we were losing. I swear we’re the only nation whose media actually wants us to lose and never reports success, only casualties.

thats a pretty great moral

100 people < 100,000,000 people

unless they 100 people are somehow superior(like 100 geniuses, 100 world leaders, etc.) or the 100,000,000 are handicapped(retarded, gay, criminals, insane etc.)

Okay, Did any of you Idiots learn anything in History class. After the TET Offensive American was killing the NVA and there was almost NO Vietcong left. However back at home protest to the war grew above 50% so in 1969 America started to withdraw their troops from Vietnam. In 1975 once all the Americans had left the NVA made one final assult againest South Vietnam and ended up take it over. Had America had stayed we would have one but a majority of the population was againest the war so America had to withdraw.

one more thing. the TET offensive was on television so Americans at home saw what the war was like in Vietnam so protesting jumped 3% to 51%.
