So lets make a hypothetical situation.
Lets say, it’s the 2012 republican primary. At the last minute, a Muslim joins the race, he is a generic “Abortion bad, guns good, taxes bad, so on” republican, aside from all the anti Muslim stuff republicans tend to support. And, for unrelated reasons all of the other republican candidates explode, leaving the Muslim to run in the main election against Obama.
Now for those of you who are republicans, lets pretend for a moment that Obama isn’t a Muslim, himself. Who do the republicans vote for, what does the media think? Who do the democrats vote for? Who would you vote for? What happens?
State your opinions and beliefs on what would happen in this situation.

What prevents the Muslim from being voted for? We know what Obama has done but not this Muslim guy.

What prevents the Muslim from being voted for? It was my understanding the republicans generally dislike Muslims.

Forget it, who wants to live in a country that was founded in Christianity but has a Muslim leader? And who wants to live under the rule of a guy who isn’t even from America, Has no understanding of how money works, and doesn’t even know what he thinks.
If these were my options, I’d rather move to mars.

That probably has some truth to it but I don’t think it would be a great enough effect to make them not want to vote for the Muslim, over Obama.

Freedom of religion*
Well technically it’s because Britain was a douche, but still.
And who wants to live under the rule of a guy who isn’t even from America,
Good thing that isn’t happening.
Has no understanding of how money works, and doesn’t even know what he thinks.
Mitt Romney?

The bus left a while ago, sorry.

That is crap, and even if it was true, we let him run for president because we believe him to have been born in the USA.

I’d vote for whomever I felt was more qualified.
Then again, I’m not republican.

Quite a lot of People believe that only people with similar beliefs/culture to their own can be morally trustworthy, as in only they can be trusted to act morally correct. The less similar the beliefs/culture the less people will trust in the other persons ability to act morally.
This is due to the fact that most cultures/religions/ideologies claim to have an inherent moral superiority over other cultures/religions/ideologies.
As such republicans and Americans (in general) are mostly Christians and/or have a Christian socialization and are thus more likely to reject a Candidate that is not Christian, because of the assumption that the candidate can not be trusted to act morally(which means according to Christian morals).

Well its likely that the republicans will just keep adding new candidates(until one does not explode) or force a rerun of the election(if new candidates can´t be added anymore).
A lot of republicans and independent Americans just would not vote for the Muslim guy even if he was the only alternative to Obama left and was running on a very generic republican agenda. Taking away any chance for a victory.
Considering the “explosion” of candidates its more likely that the republicans would accuse the Muslim guy as a person involved with and responsible (together with obama and “the” liberals) for the “explosions”.

Keep in mind that we have been at war with the Muslims. This figures in.

Still doesn’t mean all Muslims are the same.

Funny, I thought we were at war with portions of the Middle East. When did we declare a religious war?
(That is to say, there are so many more Muslims than those that exist in the Middle East, nevermind small portions of the Middle East.)

Right, we are at war with a portion of Muslims, but the people here don’t differentiate. When we are sending our sons and daughters to a Muslim country and they are dying, we don’t have a lot of sympathy for any Muslim. I have met a lot of these soldiers and know what they have to go through. Our government doesn’t help them when they get home and their families suffer along with them. Why? Because we are at war with the Muslims, whether it be a few of them or all of them doesn’t matter when your child is killed by them.

How does it feel, being so morally superior to those nasty Republicans?
Responding to the incredibly loaded OP, I would vote for the candidate I feel is better qualified to deal with the current issues the federal government needs to solve. (Read: Not abortion, not gay rights.)

Like rainbooms.
I mostly meant that I’m not a republican, therefore my actions and decisions don’t speak for them.

what I have a lot of republican friends who believe Obama to be a secret Muslim. I didn’t want a bunch of posts saying “I’d rather vote for a republican Muslim than an evil democratic one”.

It’s a bit too broad to say we’re at war with Muslims. We are at war with a predominantly Islamic nation. I’m sure we have some soldiers and American patriots who are Muslims themselves, although I fully understand the feelings of dissent towards that group in general.

I think most Republicans care less about whether someone is Muslim or not, and more about their policies. If they have good policies, I think most Republicans would get in line behind that candidate.
