You fight fire with fire. In other words, if it is a one on one bullying, you will need to fight back.

This hard. I used to be a “victim of bullying” then I threw a couple punches, and then those kids left me alone. I won’t lie, I lost some of those fights, but at the end of the day, growing a pair and getting it out of your system is better than bitching or getting in a school shooting.

AND, we have yet another fine example of jhco’s penchant for over-exaggeration (hyperbole) or over-simplification of a situation or an overly bereft assessment//explanation….or a combination of two of all three of them.
His “attitude” on how to handle this kind of issue is what causes me to have some really serious concerns about who is “allowed” to publicly carry firearms.
TheLoneLucas is right: There are already threads on this. In them, there have been many reasons why such retaliation is VERY RARELY a good idea……one of them being that it can have disastrous outcomes and doesn’t really do much at all to solve the basic issue of bullying.

Aha….jhco’s “twin”.
BUT, I guess I should say: I’m happy it all “worked out” for YOU.
BUT, I still stand by what I said (& others have) above about how such response isn’t really all that effective in most cases…..AND, can lead to elevated responses of bullying.
Such attitudes of “physical” versus “mental” efforts of solving “problems” is a huge societal cancer. It is at the heart of what many see as a seriously realistic area of concern when it comes to pursing some forms of REGULATION (not banning) of availability of strong (guns) methods of damage.

I was bullied. I talked to the teacher, but he couldn’t see the bullying (the bully made sure of that). I talked to my parents, but they couldn’t really do something aside talk to the teacher. I couldn’t inform the police, since this wouldn’t be an important case. I had very little friends who could stand up for me. The only remaining option was to fight back, which I did, and I was never bullied again. Plus the bully also somewhat backed off from other kids.
Moral of the story? None. If you find a solution other than fighting, use it. If you can’t, then you can choose between being bullied or hurting your morals. I chose the latter.

Have you ever tried it?

Just because I agree with him in the idea that people need to man the hell up sometimes, doesn’t mean I think exactly like him.

This is an example of where I would disagree with him. I believe people who have an open-carry fetish are douche bags, but that’s a discussion for another thread.

See, I don’t look as hurting your morals. You should look at it as willing to stand up for yourself, which one could say is a moral standpoint in its own right. Like you said, if there’s a nonviolent solution to the problem, take it. Thing is, there sometimes isn’t, so your best bet is working it out in fisticuffs.

Usually fighting is the only option…. The teachers at my school did nothing, you could get out of any punishment by faking tears. Parents would talk to teachers, who in turn would do nothing. The principle was an idiot who did nothing, they brought in those anti-bully assemblies, which did nothing. Some of the other students tried talking in front of the call about it, which did nothing (though I admire them for trying).
Which leaves you with, beat the living daylights out of the bully, threaten him with a knife, or beat him down with a chair in the lunchroom! If the teachers and the bully’s parents arn’t going to do anything. It falls on the victim to take action, and there’s pretty much only one way to go!
