Interesting that Justice Roberts could have killed the whole thing but didn’t
Interesting that this isn’t a tax but it is a tax
Interesting how the DNC celebrated this victory on the so-called war on women
Interesting how even this could mean nothing in a few months
Not interesting how it’s practically impossible to read a 200-page court decision or a 2000 page law. At least they have large margins.

OMG. I saw this this morning too. Not sure how I feel about it. Can someone provide some details—what happens if you are already insured or have veterans healthcare?
What happens if you are not insured? Do you get fined?

We aren’t finished yet, sir. Only a roadblock. Be patient.
My sister-in-law lives in Texas. She had a bad disk in her back (L5/S1). Texas has embraced Obamacare and she went on it to have her back operated on. The government told her no, she would have to have steroid shots instead. Being familiar with this treatment, I can tell you it is a temporary relief and doesn’t cure the problem. Her doctor rebelled and had to file more papers explaining why the operation was needed and after several months of fighting with the government bureaucracy, and a lot of pain for her, government relented and let her have her operation.
Now let me ask you all this…if I needed open heart surgery because I have had a heart attack, can I wait months to be treated?
Let me give you a preview of what is to come. My daughter had a baby about a year ago. Being as her husband is in the military, she used the military medical system. This is government healthcare that you can expect now. She got only minimal prenatal care. They made several mistakes that could have cost her and the baby their lives. They got the due date wrong and when my daughter went into labor, they told her she was too early and ignored her. After a week or more of labor, she went out of labor. Now if she was getting proper care, this would have been a red flag.
She finally convinced them to induce labor. To do this, they reach in and pop the sack the baby is in. It was found this sack was too thick to just pop and they had to tear it open. Then they estimated the weight of the baby at 8lbs. Let me explain that after the baby reaches it’s full development, after this point the baby does nothing but gain weight.
In other words, she was in labor the first time and was ignored. the baby was now just gaining weight. The staffs estimate of 8lbs was completely off and by the time they recognized they had made a mistake it was too late and the baby was already in the birth canal. If they had accurately determined the baby’s real weight, she would have had to have a cesarean birth. Instead, she had to give birth to a larger than normal baby…11lbs, 2oz.
This was a very dangerous situation. A baby is no longer breathing when it enters the birth canal and it must be a smooth birth or the baby could die, not to mention the mother. Well, the baby got hung up on a bone and time was ticking away. The staff did get the baby managed to be born. They came very close to loosing both of them.
These are just a couple of examples of what is coming your way. Free healthcare? No. It will cost not only trillions of dollars of taxpayer money, but it will cost lives.
You celebrate Karma, but when you have a life threatening problem and some bureaucrat tells you you don’t qualify for care, what will you do? Receive the end of life talk?

Hey guys, does anyone have details on the following:
Medicaid/MediCal—do these stay in place for low income?
MediCare—does this stay in place for elderly?
People who already have some form of healthcare—do they just continue what they’re doing and not worry about it?

I don’t know about Medicaid, but would guess it would be gone. People with their own insurance will be required to pay for Obamacare anyway. This will eventually eliminate private health insurance.

The important thing to remember—and this applies to everyone—is that you get good healthcare and bad healthcare in every setting. I’ve been in the military and received some good healthcare and bad healthcare. I’m with the VA right now and receiving some very good healthcare (good physician). When I was covered under my husbands private care (Blue Shield of California) I received some good healthcare and bad healthcare.
Did I ever mention that when I was giving birth, I opted for what I thought was “good” private healthcare (Kaiser Permanente) over military healthcare (Travis AFB)? That turned out to be a mistake, as they pushed me right out of the hospital and my C-section got infected and came back open.
We can’t apply blanket statements to any one form of healthcare, as it really depends more on the physician and their team.

It’s true, you can get good or bad care, but I guarantee you, this health bill that has been allowed, will be really bad. Government has never, never been able to operate anything as well as the public sector. You will see a runaway, bloated system that will end up costing more and more until we can no longer afford it, and give us worse healthcare in the long run. Your cost (now called a tax) will grow larger every year, pushing more and more people into poverty and giving less and less healthcare to the poor as they are pushed out of the system.
I had Kaiser when I had my heart problems.

Most of the law will remain in effect. Here’s the government’s explanation of the changes. It’s probably built in a way to make the plan look as good as possible, but it should still contain good information. I’d recommend reading through the 2000 page bill

Health care isn’t a right. It’s a service, the quality of which will continue to decline thanks to bad government regulation in collaboration with big insurance companies.

Again, we haven’t lost yet. You think health care is a right? And who gives up to pay for your right? The doctors who will make less money? The hospitals that will probably be confiscated by a government reaching for total control? How about the medical researchers who spend millions researching new cures, but may not if they can’t make a profit anymore? Whenever we pass legislation like this there is always collateral damage. Someone pays and it is usually the little guy. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Obama thinks he has won a major victory, but he may have signed the end of his presidency as there are more people against his Obamacare than are for it. I was just watching the news (BBC) and the guy they were interviewing said this could give Romney the key to the election.

I am personally fine with the law since it helps those people who are denied coverage by insurance companies. The only two parts of the law I don’t like is the mandate for every American to buy health insurance or be penalized and I don’t like small businesses being forced to provide coverage for employees which would be about $500 per employee. (OUCH!) Other than those two instances I am fine with the law.

Health care isn’t a right.
That’s not up to you to decide.
It’s a service, the quality of which will continue to decline thanks to bad government regulation in collaboration with big insurance companies.
Aside from showing this with some evidence, did you also think of the other factors involved?
I’d just like to add that the rich, obviously, are most likely to be the most informed about health and health care, so are able to see the most profitable option between insuring themselves or paying the full load (neither of which puts a dent in their income). And the poor? Generally more likely to have a lower education, and less informed on what to do with health problems. Also, less capable of paying for health bills, or health insurance. The cheapest option, along with the highest quality, is the best option here. The rich obviously want the highest quality, but don’t very much care about the cost (unless it’s ridiculously high). The poor need the lowest costs, and will likely go with any type of quality (unless the very worst you can imagine), but obviously we should strive for better quality. If anyone can show me when it is cheapest and when it has the highest quality, or both, I’d be interested to see the results.

My mistake, I thought I lived in a republic. I’ll shut up now and let my owners decide what my rights are. Also, why does hardly anyone mention the middle class? This legislation hurts them the most and just pushes them down to the lower class. If being poor is such a bad thing, why make the middle class poor as well?

Don’t get why wealth-supporters (for want of a better word) are against this.
If poor people are kept healthy, there’ll be more of them to choose from when companies are giving out badly-paid jobs. That means a better overall quality of worker and a corresponding increase in profits.
Has to be a good thing, if you’re on that side of the fence.

I’m listening to a discussion on PBS right now. From what I gather, those who are unemployed will still have to apply for Medicaid for healthcare. They were discussing employers opting out of supplying insurance for employees and just paying the penalties because it will be cheaper for them. There is also the ability of states opting out of it now. the one good thing to come out of this is the court limiting what government can claim under the interstate commerce clause. If what I heard is true, there will be a lot of limiting of government, or at least the avenue to contest it better.
So, I understand my wife and I will probably lose our company subsidized insurance that we were able to afford. In place of it, I don’t know. We may fall through the proverbial cracks. Isn’t that wonderful. We who were responsible and provided for ourselves, may be left out in the cold so those who sit on their arses will get insurance…or not.
By the way, healthcare is not a right. As Rob said, it is a service provided to us by the medical community. I wish you fellas new the difference between a “Right” and a government “Privilege”. A right is an inalienable right. A privilege is given by government and can be taken back whenever they deem it convenient.

I’m just curious…what makes you think you would lose insurance if you already have it? You have insurance and the new thing wants to mandate everyone has insurance. You’re taken care of and nothing will change, I don’t think.

Interesting that you think fining people who don’t have healthcare is a step in the right decision then. I had been more confused about the KKK happy-dancing, but I think I figured that one out ;D
I really would like to see an analysis of the law from an unbiased non-government related party.
Does this make Kennedy and Roberts the best two supreme court justices? In my book yes, not because of any particular decision, but because they don’t always follow idiotic partisan lines.

Texas has embraced Obamacare
As someone who lives in Texas, I can say that this is not true. Texas has one of the highest rates of uninsured people in the country (if not the highest—the rankings change every couple of years), and this law is going to be a great benefit to millions of Texans—but for some reason, most people here are against it.
Does this make Kennedy and Roberts the best two supreme court justices? In my book yes, not because of any particular decision, but because they don’t always follow idiotic partisan lines.
I wholeheartedly agree.
