That’s because it isn’t, now let’s use the correct thread for this before it get more off-topic.

My, my, this thread has moved on a bit since last night’s little spat between the supporters of the right and the centre. Well, it was last night for me, probably yesterday afternoon for some of you. Talk about handbags at dawn! I enjoyed the catfight, but at the same time it was a sad reflection of the state of politics in America. Over here, the big political fight is to occupy the middle ground, because that’s where the votes are. America is becoming more and more polarised, and seems to be intent on tearing itself apart. The conservatives in particular seem to be playing a game of dare with themselves, to see who can take up the most insanely right wing position.

I went off at a bit of a tangent this morning, and investigated the policies of the British National Party, a.k.a. the neo-nazis. I lifted this little snippet from their manifesto:

“The BNP believes in a free, fully funded National Health Service for all British citizens and the right to care and nurture for all sections of our national community.
The biggest problem facing the NHS today is underfunding, particularly for front line staff.”

So even the extreme right can support a fully funded national health system. Even they don’t see it as a socialist conspiracy to destroy life as we know it. All of which leaves me wondering if the real problem here isn’t politics at all, but simple, good old fashioned greed. Earlier in the thread I referred to one of the opposition groups to the founding of the NHS being the private patients who resented sharing their resources with the peasants, those less fortunate than themselves. In other words, if you are lucky enough to make it to the top, don’t forget to pull the ladder up after you.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that it is greed which is driving the opposition to Obamacare, a refusal to show compassion because, heaven forbid, it might cost the more comfortably-off a bit of their disposable income. As I said before, America is the only developed nation on earth not to have some form of universal health care. And yet the neo-con headbangers still try to claim that only they are right and everyone else is wrong. If everyone else can afford it and make it work, there is no possible reason, either political or financial, why America could not do the same.

The mainstream media has been biased for many years and don’t seem to know what is journalism anymore. All of them. You know, you ask why and I will be honest I don’t know. Maybe there is money in it or maybe something political.

As John De Lancie puts it (Yes, I know that he’s an actor, and I know what the site is and the other comments in it, now shut up and read it) it’s about winning the argument, mostly.

I guess he STILL doesn’t understand that politics is pretty much about power and MONEY and that I’ve been saying: FOLLOW THE MONEY if ya really wanna know what is going on in America.

What John De Lancie said in that link (and part of his purpose for his documentary??) is so compelling that I’m gonna post a part of it: That said, my journey to making this documentary happens to coincide with my growing frustration with the vituperative nature of political discourse in America. I don’t like Fox News, but I don’t like MSNBC either. Nor Pacifica Radio; or AirAmerica; or Rush Limbaugh; or any other agenda driven “news” outlet. I’m of the opinion that one enters personal or public dialogue in one of two ways: to seek the truth or win the argument. The news programs mentioned are, for the most part, in the latter category. They have become ratings driven entertainment and, more often-than-not, they are mean-spirited and disingenuous. Current events are difficult enough to understand without being purposely mislead by news organizations unconstrained by the truth.

tenco, I agree w/ YOU & John De about the “winning the argument”, and YOUR mostly. I wanna add that often, the purpose behind “winning” is that “to the winner goes the spoils” (money). I remember a time when the 10 o’clock news didn’t have advertisements.

I admit that,, while seeing this “brony” word being used here on this forum,, I had NO IDEA what it referred to…(old ppl syndrome?). Thanks, tenco, for giving me an incentive to learn about it. I’ll not go into the details I could on the subject…at least not on this thread. If there isn’t already a thread on it….there should be.

Jake-0 said: Why is my question of your well being irrelevant?

Unless it’s about my medical well-being, it’s not all that relevant to this topic.

Does he NOT UNDERSTAND the meaning of relevancy?…..related to?….usually related to in a manner that has merit?

Shit, I think I just fell into a vat of “rhetoricalosity” and nearly drowned on both the definitions of it.

Sorry to all other repubs in the forum, but I’m leaving. I can’t stand seeing the arrogance and ignorance of many of the posters here. The best I can do is cast my vote and hope for the best in the future. I’ll leave it to someone else to try to educate these people. Reading the forums just frustrates me and I know it frustrates everyone here. No one is going to get anyone here, I can already tell. so, seeya.

Yeah, basically.

All hail PBS?

Yeah, you can just go to the tread I linked to earlier.(And eventually the documentary)

Though one thing of note: It’s kind of hard, but also important to learn a lot about this before passing judgement. (When isn’t it hard?)

I’ll not go into the details I could on the subject…at least not on this thread. If there isn’t already a thread on it….there should be.

There is; I linked to it on the previous page. (It should be near the bottom)

I don’t really get the point…..which has become de rigueur when it comes to finding one in YOUR posts of late.

Do YOU not “get” the perverted irony in that bill board? Are YOU so fucking BLIND to the reality of race (I’ve always thought of ya as a closeted racist as well as a homophobe….they usually go hand-N-hand) that the message is just that STOOOOOPID?

Those who voted for Obama “to prove they weren’t racist”……probably ARE.
This automatically tosses any hope that they might prove being anything more than an idiot regardless of who they vote for….even if it were FOR ME.

Yes, I am very sorry for my personal attack on you.

Wait, what was the point of your post, again?
