Well I know billions will die in a catastrophic event, but the question is, would the survivors be able to build the world into something right, a peaceful place where people get along instead of going to war over stupid reasons such as Religion?

possibly. if our communication lines remain intact, that will help a lot. otherwise, we’re probably doomed.

If it were TOTAL: sad.
It it were only partial: bad.
That’s just the nature of humans.
We are, after all, ANIMALS….
AND, the (only?) ones who kill for “sport”.
So, do we really have any “moral high ground”?
Would Mother Nature really “miss” us?

Of course the apocalypse would be a bad thing. Silly Rainbow Dash.

Anyway, it rather depends on the type of apocalypse scenario. If, say, the entire world except some densely populated country died tomorrow, than we would probably be okay. If just 95% of all people died and this was evenly distributed by country, than we would likely have a lot more issues.

There are plenty of doomsday scenarios that I don’t think humans would recover from without a very long journey. There are a few that I think would end rather well, despite the tragedy.

On a final note, I don’t think any tragedy is capable of keeping us peaceful. After a few decades, it won’t matter that much. After a few centuries, it’s just a chapter in a history book. After a few millenniums, it’s a myth.

I know this is totally off topic…but my cats kill for just sport.

And yes, an apocalypse would be bad. No more junk food?!

If the human race were to die, the ecology of the earth would start to recover. Now of course, if it were nuclear war where the earth itself is razed into a giant that’d be pretty horrible. Perhaps an economic collapse would be the opportunity for a utopian community to come out, but honestly I doubt any perfect society would come from the destruction of the old world.

Also, I’d say the Fallout game series has a pretty accurate expectation of what sorts of political groups we’d see. (Technologically obsessed religious order. an attempt at rebuilding democracy, probably some tribes/bandit clans, philanthropist groups trying to remind everyone of what the human race is, the list goes on and on.)

The apocalypse would not be a bad thing, seeing as the word apocalypse is actually Greek for “unveiling” or “uncovering”

GAME CHANGER!

Survivors? The apocalypse = the end of the world and therefore life altogether… Hmm, am I missing something? If you mean just a mass-natural-phenomenon with critically negative reception akin to 2012 as per localized reference, then I would think that it still isn’t good since there would be hardly any benefits and additionally undeniable recession in human progress as to both technological and societal conditions

It would be horrible for those of you who claim atheism as your religion. :)

that assumes one particular scenario, which is not one i would suggest.

and even in that scenario, i don’t see why that would be horrible for atheists. because we won’t be let into Heaven? what makes you think we’d want to?

judging by the character God is portrayed as in second-hand quotes i read from especially the Old Testament, and the typical character of his most avid followers, i’m pretty sure i’ll prefere Hades.

OH….and just WHY is that?
Give me PROOF of why it would be so.
Tell me what makes YOU an “expert” on such matters.
I have a “friend” who RELIGIOUSLY believes THIS life is actually Hell.

I’ll “pray” for that to happen.
OR, as the song goes: I swear there’s no Heaven, but I pray there’s no Hell. (Blood, Sweat, & Tears).

Wow! You mean you couldn’t get a whole rant out of that sentence? You are slipping me boy. Actually it was just a bit of sarcasm, but I wouldn’t expect you to pick up on that.

Clearly, the apocalypse will be Ragnarok.

I feel pity for all of you who don’t follow the Norse religion.

(Actually, I don’t think there is any punishment during Ragnarok for that. Huh.)

Anyway, the etymology of apocalypse is that it did originally mean uncover. However, what it means now is entire differently, and acting as if people are talking about the ancient meaning as if it were the current meaning is just silly.

Man made/natural apocalypse would be tolerable. I have kids, so I don’t really want them to have to deal with zombies or fallout or whatever. But, all things considered, I know how to take care of myself. I’m well armed and have months of food reserves. My family would likely survive, and hopefully without any deaths.

God’s second coming apocalypse would be great. I’m prepared. My family is good faithful Christian believers, and followers. I’d welcome it. In fact, I look forward to it.

A key criteria you’re missing out on…

Christ’s second coming really is what the name implies: the return of Christ to supposedly cleanse the world of all its innumerable impurities and to bring salvation to all whom faithful during the prior days.

No religion save for Christianity recognizes the 2nd coming of Christ as even… well, authentic from both a speculatively proactive and retrospectively retroactive point of view.

The 2nd coming of Christ is verification of the Christian faith and therefore vindication for Christians.

Not all apocalypses would be registered as the second coming of God, despite what some may believe due to spiritual “nostrums” as heretical to official doctrines

Thus, at that time, for contextualization, your perspective is invalid

You’re so original when your critical of Christianity like everyone else.
