> I just dont see why scientists don’t stand up for the good. Like all refuse to produce and improve technology that will be used in war, either directly (thermonuclear bomb) or indirectly (infrared scopes)
Why not? Because that would be stupid. For starters, if just one person does it then it defeats the purpose as the enemy will have gained an advantage – furthermore, many technologies developed for the military serve other purposes as well. Since you mentioned infrared scopes, keep in mind they can be used for astronomy, firefighters can find people in buildings with it, and so on. If scientists never did anything that could potentially be used to harm others some day down the road, they would do nothing.
What you need to understand is that such things aren’t inherently bad; it is how people choose to use them.

That’s not a true statement though norumaru. You guys are generalizing religions which is unfair. And once a religion has been purposefully twisted so that it can be used for belligerent purposes, it is no longer religion that is causing the belligerence but the human trait which caused that person to purposefully twist their philosophy.

I completely understand your point Saint, science is neutral until people get their hands on it
but I must question the use of infrared scopes so
> firefighters can find people in buildings with it
I would say a burning building isn’t the best place of using a vision that senses heat, but feel free to correct me.

Easy to do:
“Using infrared technology to see through smoke and darkness, Bullard Thermal Imagers help firefighters find victims, pinpoint fires and recognize structural dangers before they cause injuries and deaths.”

Wow, that’s cool. But I never see firefighters wear them, and I live a block away from a fire station. Too bad we wasted all that money with the bailouts.
