The calendar doesn’t even end in 2012. It’s just the end of a baktun, about 394 years. The 13th baktun ends on 12/20/12 and the 14th starts on the 21st. nothing else.

officials say that the chances of the end of the world on 2012 is the same as any day… and if it does end we’ve been warned… scientist say that the weird thing is that the planets are predicted to line up, which there theory is creating a second ice age for one day the snow will fall till freezing…. another theory is that a massive solar flare is to hit the earth and take out our magnetic field “again” for the second time in history for some time… but for people who do believe in 2012, should live life :D and for those who don’t believe it will happen just live as you are. My self I don’t believe in 2012, my reason is because people predicted the end of days since 100,000 b.c. (im not over egzagirating) or however you spell it… I’ve had loads of calendars that have run out. – dd790… thats another possible reason to think its not the end of days. our calenders end so will theres, meaning could just mean repeating course of their predictions…

Scientist say nothing about planets lining up, because they aren’t. Even if they did nothing will happen. You cannot predict solar flares, they can happen at any time and all the time. Our magnetic feild has never disappeared. And the mayan calendar does not end, just the 13th bak’tun.

The world is not going to end in 2012… It’s just common sense. The Mayans had to end their calendar somewhere. They couldn’t make it infinite. In this case, they ended it in 2012. I’m going to laugh when 2013 starts and the internet is going to become flooded with posts about a “2012: The World’s End – How it never happened” topic.

could you profide us with a few sources for these claims? (planet alignment, solarflares, magnetic field shutdown)

Ok the mayan calander ends, first of all they said it was the end of the era which doesn’t mean the end of the world! Second of all there have been many predictions of the end of the world and did they happen? And if the poles change every whatever amount of years would anyone be alive if thats the reason EVERYONE is going to die then how is human race alive? Has anyone thougt that the Mayans might have just died out before they could finish?

I think its funny that people think the world will end in 2012 just because of some primitive mayan calender ending in 2012. The mayans just ran out of rock for thier calender. This is just another thing like Y2K, its a stupid idea and I find it funny people believe it will happen. Also all these appocalypse in 2012 shows and shows about an old senile man named nostradamus who predicts the future are getting quite endless and annoying.

ok, the story of this 2012 discussion is the Mayan calendary ends in 2012 because the planets will be have a perfect allinement and the world will be destroyed. the mayan calendary can’t destroy the earth. it is just a calendary. or my calendary that ends in 2015 will be destroy the world in 2015? NOT! but the world really can be destroyed,it is highly probabily, because the earth is not totally a circle like this O. it is ovall. yes, it likes a egg!, but it is not super ovall, it is a only a bit ovall and the humans can’t see this. the scientists have studed and comproved it. the ovall earth is cracking like a egg, but in super super supah dupah mega slow velocity, and the cientists discovered: it will start to crack in 2012! when it start to crack, it will try to separate in two iddentical earths, and the crack will make giant eartquakes in all the world, including in the sea, and a giant earthquake in the earth will make a giant tsunami. tsunamis and earthquakes will destroy a big part of the world, but not all! the cracks of the small eartquakes on the ground will reach the lava of the center of the world, and the center of the worlds will have a weak implosion, and it will turns into a volcano, it will melt all ice from the world and all the water will increase in 1800 meters, and this water has a big chance to get eletrefied and will kill all on the planet(the planet will turns into a “shock ball” in the solar system.) and if this not happens, all the food will be a trash, and all the people dies, but if the scientists missed (that is hard to happen), the world will be destroyed, but later, because it is a 100% chance to the earth try to divide, and the plannet get destroyed. Resuming, in only some words, there are no way to escape from death, and the world stay here, waiting… this can happens in one minute, in one hour, in one year, in one billion of years, but this will be happens and there are no way to escape… (lol 3 hours to done this message xD)

Ah, ‘the scientists’ again.
Funny how nobody can ever give examples of exactly who ‘the scientists’ are, isn’t it?

If it is already cracking, how come it will start to crack in 2012? A crack travelling backwards in time, that suddenly leapfrogs into the future?

To be fair, that would fit with the rest of the metaphysical bullshit spouted about 2012.

That is perhaps the most bizarre ‘theory’ I have ever read. It’s so bizarre that I looked on Google to try to get an idea of where you got it from and the top result for ‘cracking earth 2012’ was… your post.

We will live on to see 2013. 2012 has good evidence. People always say the world will end, 6/6/6 is an example. Anyone who thinks that the world will end is – in my opinion – ignorant.

it isn’t just the Mayan calendar who says the world will end in 2012.
Many other prophets who says it. One of them was Nostradamus (French, 16.centurie)

Nostradamus’s ‘predictions’ are so vague you can take them to mean anything you want. People just look back through them when something ‘important’ happens, find one that vaguely matches the events, then act amazed. It’s not that surprising; the guy wrote something like 30 books of vague verse he claimed to be prophecies. Something’s bound to match occasionally.

One, the Mayans didn’t even say the world would end. This is probably the most brought up idea to world ending in 2012, and has been posted here some thirty times or so.
Anyways, the ending of their calender is nothing special, it’s no different then our own ending because after that is just another period of time.
Cracked in case anyone else wants to post these ideas

I always thought that Yellowstone would erupt on December 21, 2012.
I’m glad I live in Canada. ;)
