Talk about the USA election between Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton.

I think Barack Obama should win the election.

this will probably go better if you explain why you think this, cite stances he’s taken on particular issues, etc

Hey matt, I think he should win ‘cus he is good and WILL be the first black president. Barack is sincere in his convictions – his family, his faith, his love for this country. His optimistic and positive outlook appeals to voters across party lines as well as non-party goers. Barack Obama inspires. Have you heard the speech he made at the DNC in 2004? Barack has this booming, yet soothing, voice that easily fills the room (kind of like smooth jazz, except that it doesn’t suck). He has a great smile too, and when you talk to him you feel like a little kid again. You really believe that you can be a fireman or Indiana Jones. He doesn’t look like a typical politician (he’s skinny, has big ears, and – don’t tell anybody, but he’s somewhat off-white). More importantly, he doesn’t talk or act like a typical politician.
He grew up in Hawaii, Indonesia and Kansas. As he put it, “A father from Kenya, a mother from Kansas and a story that could only happen in the United States of America.” Barack Obama’s unique upbringing and experiences allow him to relate to people from all walks of life. His story also reminds us that the American Dream is still alive, but that we have to work hard to keep it that way.

Michelle Obama once said, “He’s not running for president because he wants to be president, that’s sort of the irony of it. He’s running for president because he truly believes that we can do better as a country.” That is a quality we are looking for in our next president. Our president must put the concerns of our nation first, not push certain policies just to get a few more votes in the next election. The policies of our nation should focus on improving the quality of life for all Americans.

(Hillary Clinton) If you look back at the last eight presidential elections, at least, the more likeable candidate has won every time. That’s unfortunate for Hillary because unlike her slick, gregarious husband, she does not have the gift of gab or a warm personality. If Hillary has to pass the old, “Gee, would I rather go to a ball game, grab some pizza, or get a beer with Hillary or the Republican candidate,” test, she’s going to be in a lot of trouble unless the person asking the question is wearing a tinfoil hat or is such a radical lefty that she has a “I (heart) abortion” bumper sticker on her car.

You want him to win because he will be the first black president. Interesting.

Flag Post

Well, kinda. But i think he will lead to a great country

If Hillary wins, that will mean since 1988 only 2 families will have been in power. It is just a time for a change.

Flag Post

That’s one of the weakest arguments I’ve heard, and yet I hear it repeated all the time. Only two families in power, over the course of 20 years? First off, I dare say most countries are under the power of a single person for more than 20 years at a time. Secondly, what does the family really have to do with it? Heck, she’s not even of the same blood relation. Because she married Bill she shouldn’t have the right to be president? You’ve got better arguments than that one, don’t ruin your credibility by trying to make the 2 family argument. I sure as hell didn’t hear it being made when W was up for election last term.

People are caught up in the idea of Obama being president. Often times, they don’t know anything about his stances or policies. They just like him because he is black, young, has an interesting story, or speaks eloquently.

Obama would be absolutely horrendous for our economy at a time when it is incredibly frail. Obama will raise taxes through the roof when the tax cuts should be continued. We need economic growth more desperately than ever, and Obama is not the man who’s going to bring it.

Ron Paul SHOULD win, but since he clearly won’t I will be forced to pick John McCain because he is the lesser of two (or three) evils.

Also, Hillary is not more radical lefty than Obama is like you imply. Obama’s voting record was THE MOST LIBERAL in the Senate last year. They are both semi-socialists if you ask me, but Hillary is (dare I say) more conservative than Obama.

Dr Slayer:

Name me three of Obama’s actual stances or policies that you prefer to Hillary.

No bullshit about their race, age or last name — just actual stances/policies please.

while the charm/eloquence/inspirational qualities of a potential leader are definitely good qualities to have, voting based solely (or even primarily) on those qualities rather than plans/policy is a pretty terrible and imo somewhat of an insult to fellow citizens. :(

Obama and hillary are 100% right on the war but not much else. Since I am not a republican I couldn’t vote in that contest, I chose Obama. Hillary has experience as being someone’s wife and not much else. She got into the Senate pretty much the same way Obama did, easily without stiff competition, except Hillary moved to NY after Bill left office to run for the Senate. Obama was a resident of IL and former IL Legislator.

Go the greens.

Also though if hillary wins she would probabely be taking advice from her husband half the time.

(I’m australian so i hardly care though.)

Flag Post

So, I just want Barack Obama to win ’cus George Bush, his dad was leading the country. Then Bill Clinton took over. Then, after that, you really want hillary clinton to win??? I mean, come on. It is time for a change!!

Flag Post

but you haven’t cited any of his plans, policy ideas, intentions, just talked about his personality. you’ve said he’ll change things but haven’t given any example of how he’d act differently. if you don’t know what he’s planning to do, he might just talk about change then show up and do the same thing, or something worse.

do you think hillary is just going to be bill clinton again? why? if you think thats the case, why do you think that will be worse than obama being in office? why is it time for a change?

I’m voting for Obama because I think he has good judgment, as evidenced by his early stance against the Iraq war, is capable of looking at the realities of people’s lives, as evidenced by his stance against mandates for Universal Health Care, and has unique abilities that would render him an exquisite diplomat to foreign countries, as evidenced by his amazing writing and speaking abilities. I’m also voting for him because he’s not afraid to admit when the other side has a good idea. I’m voting for him because he realizes that the way to help heal racial and sociological divides in this country is to solve the problems that affect all Americans, not just one class or race. I’m voting for him because he wants to hold government to a higher standard, as evidenced by his efforts to promote transparency and his legislation on ethics reform.

There are some of my reasons. Why are you people planning on voting for McCain? In spite of the fact that he’s championed a stupid and detrimental war, has no economic expertise and has shown very little incentive to cut spending aside from his earmark embargo, which is such a paltry problem it’s barely worth talking about. Every time a Republican gets into office government spending skyrockets. Then a Democrat comes in and it starts to fall. In spite of all that how can you be for McCain?

DrSlayer obviously doesn’t actually care about policy, and I don’t see the point in arguing with someone who’s major complaint is that one of the candidates is married to a previous president.

Flag Post

I know. But I am actually from England and when I heard about it, I thought Barack Obama would have won. So i am voting for him.

Flag Post

Barack Obama for president this web site would break Clintons heart. Imagine if she saw newgrounds.

Flag Post

Not to mention she has baggage. McCain is retarded wanting to stay in the war with Iraq he’s a Bush slave!!! Bush has been clearing out military personnel who don’t support the war…. Texas has produced a lot of bad presidents.

Flag Post

Why are you people planning on voting for McCain?

only one person said they’d vote for mccain in this thread.

has no economic expertise

i think the actual knowledge of the president can be relatively unimportant, since they function more as a mediator/medium for their advisers/cabinet than independently. if someone could demonstrate that they are good at making decisions in light of accurate information, and appears to be able to get some good people together, then i would consider them a prime candidate for president, even if they were fairly uneducated.

he’s championed a stupid and detrimental war

the more important question is what to do with it now and whether he would do it again. i think bailing out of iraq now would be retarded, because their infrastructure is screwy and they probably still cant police themselves. it would speak pretty poorly of us to have gone into a country, decapitated it’s leadership, then bailed out before it could sustain itself. not that it doesn’t already speak poorly of us for having gone in there on false pretense in the first place, but still, two wrongs don’t make a right here. however, i think mccain would lovingly go off invading other countries, but i think by this point congress is obligated to oppose any of that. if not, oh well, there’s always (hopefully) emigration.
