Story Time – There was a homeless who was sleeping next to KFC. No customers went to KFC because there was a homeless there. A mean person yelled at the homeless and forced him to moved away. He moved to McDonalds. The same thing happened, he was really sad, tired, and was crying. I came to him and I gave him $5. He said, “God bless you sunny.” I was happy and he was happy.
People are really mean sometimes. Forcing the homeless to move. How harsh can you be to a person who had a rough life. Be nice and don’t be so greedy.
I SAY! HELP THE HOMELESS!
No offense, but you sound like a naive 8 year old. Sure, it would not be great being homeless, but it happens to some. Some just become homeless because they don’t get a job. Some just have bad luck.

Two year bump get!
I was looking at some of my old posts and decided I’d like to add a qualifier to my original post. Children and the mentally ill are the only ones that can’t help being homeless. Especially schizophrenics – my wife works with them and a lot of them think they are getting better so they go off their meds. Once off their meds, they are not in the right mind to get help and that’s why a lot of them end up as wanderers.

I help the poor in need, But i don’t give them money, Becuase they might just be druggies.
I give them food. One time For thanksgiving, I made a whole turkey (A sphare turkey) For someone who was at wal-mart. He said : “Thank you kind sir” .
EDIT: It was In a Pot i did not want anymore. So, If you wandered how i would give a whole turkey to a homeless person, That is how.(And some forks and knives.)

“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
Giving the homeless food and clothing isn’t bad, but it doesn’t really help them get out of their dire situation, it only prolongs how long they live on the streets, not get them off them. We need to find a way to give them support so they can get jobs and have a secure life.

What they need is a few things
1 psychological care around 90% of them have psychological problems without these they will be able to leave the street (either they became homeless because of the problems or they got the problems because they became homeless it’s a circle really).
2 Some help with getting a job. This is often as simple as nice clothes to wear and someone to help them write a letter.
3 Getting away from drugs it really helps them to be clean.
4 Clothes especially if the environment is harsh (if it’s freezing out very hot).
5 Someone who shows that they care about them it’s very important that they regain trust in humanity and the “system”.

We couldn’t really provide them all that except in care and give-out programs.
All they need are jobs. But its hard getting a job without the qualifications so we should also give them a proper education to achieve that.

You probably just gave that man $5 to go get booze with…hate to disappoint you…but its probably the truth. If you really want to help a homeless person, go in to a fast food place, buy a few cheese burgers and some water, and give that to the homeless person. Money allows him to spend it on whatever he/she feels like…which, unfortunately, a lot times, is drugs or booze.

This is why I don’t give money to homeless anymore; you never really know where it’s going and I’m not interested in furthering someone’s drug or alcohol habit. There are a lot of good outreach programs, including food closets, that run in every city I’ve lived in thus far. When I have canned goods I’m not using, I always try to donate them to drives like these. Same with old clothes and household appliances. The Salvation Army, etc. has a pretty decent system for screening people who legitimately need help and giving them the basic staples of life (not just money for alcohol, etc).
When thijser mentioned mental health problems, it’s true that a lot of this homelessness has to do with that. My last city had an underfunding with mental healthcare, and the homeless problem was huge. When funds for mental health goes down, the homeless and crime issues seem to shoot up.

I think this is also one of the main reasons the government should provide some sort of mental health care to the poor so that they do not become homeless/criminals, which in turn costs a lot of money by requiring extra police causing al sorts of problems in that area.

I agree, thijiser. The lack of mental healthcare funding, while cutting a budget in the interim, is shortsighted. The crimes and other social problems that result from this likely cost just as much money, so it’s really doing nothing but shifting resources around.

Sort of hard to tell. My dad found I pregnant woman holding a sign that said she was 6 months pregnant and needed money for the delivery. He gave her some money, I think. He later found her just as round as she was then, and said, “That’s funny, I thought you were six months pregnant 3 months ago.” She cussed him out and he laughed and drove off.
One time my parents saw a homeless man holding a sign asking for money and admitting he was just going to spend it on beer.
I feel sympathy for them, but how do I know? I can’t. …I would probably give a little bit anyway.

See, I would see repeat offenders doing this stuff in Sacramento. There was this one lady that accosted me (and other customers) several different times/dates in front of the Toys R’ Us. I got so, so tired of people asking for “gas money”—they did it all the time there. They would even drive up to your damn car and ask.
The one time I relented some homeless regulars asked me for money outside of Taco Bell. I told them I’d bring them value menu tacos instead, and they agreed.

Many of the homeless prefer to be homeless. It is their lifestyle. I have talked to them before and they enjoy this lifestyle. I admired one guy I talked to as he said the families with kids, they all chip in and get them a motel room. I found out this guy was a disabled veteran who came from a wealthy family. Who would have guessed.

Lol, right, food instead of money. If you want to give housing, you better have the money to chip them.
