All countries have different rules, like for example the drinking rules. UK you can drink when you reach the age of 18. In America, its 21. What do think of all the different rules all over the world? Some countries you can’t drink booze. It’s not just booze. The V sign is good in some countries and holding your thumb up is not allowed.

I think technically the legal drinking age in England is 5 years old as long as you are in your own house and under the supervision and permission of your elgal guardian thats what it says on wikipedia anyway i think

Yeah that’s true. And you have to be 16 to have a drink with a meal by yourself. Ahhh man I love my country!

Oh, I don’t even want to hear it. I can buy a gun before I can drink alcohol in my country.

It’s still interesting though, especially since that’s a fairly reputable source. I hadn’t seen a good argument for a higher drinking age before now. At the same time, given these findings, why aren’t we raising it to 25? Or 30?

Basically, studies have shown that a higher minimum legal drinking age has lead to fewer alcohol related deaths and injuries.

Oh, sorry – the article doesn’t talk about that. The law is that the legal age for getting drafted, buying a gun/cigarettes/porn, consenting to legal documents, being sentenced to death, etc. in the US is 18. To buy, consume, or even possess alcohol, you have to be 21. Don’t ask me why, outside of the fact that we were founded by tight-ass Puritans and some of their “legacy” has carried over. And apparently some studies show that Americans are irresponsible enough with alcohol that a legal age change is helpful. Go us.

We need at least 3 years practicing with our guns while sober before we can be trusted to carry it while drunk.

The government will enforce whatever it can get away with. It couldn’t get away with banning alcohol altogether, but it can get away with having the drinking age be 21. It can’t get away with banning cigarettes, but it can get away with banning marijuana.
Airport security can get away with banning nail filers, but it wouldn’t be able to get away with banning ballpoint pens, even though they could easily be used as a deadly weapon.
Governments and their people are always in a constant tug-of-war between control and freedom. 20-year-olds allow the government to impose these laws on them, and that’s why they exist. No one takes drunk college kids seriously.
