I’ve seen some discussion involving sex issues on this site. BUT, nudism isn’t necessarily—ON THE SURFACE anyway—about sex. The devotees tout the health benefits—both physical & mental—derived from socializing sans clothing.
So, how “comfortable” are you w/ your body? Would you be able to be around other ppl while nude and they be clothed? Would you be able to be clothed and be at a nudist colony? Could ya enjoy yourself “skinny dipping” w/ friends (& strangers). How do ya feel about group showering after gym class?

I would visit a nudist camp, but not take clothes off myself.

I appreciate your attempts to make this a serious topic.
Biologically many would find it difficult to socialise around naked ‘ugly’ people, simply because the desire for reproduction would make one feel a certain disgust around them. The constant mental distinction between people’s physical attractiveness would be counter-productive.
There is a distinct possibility that in an ideal community it could work. However society is too judgmental about people’s physical characteristics on such a basic level that discrimination would become a permanent problem.
However there would be a reduction in some fascist ideals, as well as the division of people through their clothing. Low paid child labour would be reduced as clothing companies have no need for raw materials.
There would also be a massive increase in sexual activity. The consequences of this will be a huge increase in HIV/AIDS, STI’s and world population. However there is a possibility that without clothes, the desire to see the opposite sex naked would be immediately gratified. This may lead to a greater intimate bonding of emotion, rather than conformity.
So, how “comfortable” are you w/ your body? Would you be able to be around other ppl while nude and they be clothed?
Personally it would be very uncomfortable… at first.
Would you be able to be around other ppl while nude and they be clothed?
It is a matter of trust. It bothers me what some shallow minded people think.
Would you be able to be clothed and be at a nudist colony?
At first I would wear clothes, but if I decided to visit a nudist colony then I would respect the commitments that I would need to make there.
Could ya enjoy yourself “skinny dipping” w/ friends (& strangers).
Once I have adapted to the environment, it shouldn’t make a difference.
How do ya feel about group showering after gym class?
I feel wholly ambivalent about this question, therefore I will politely decline from answering.

Wow,,,, Pertokeyo.
Ya really took my “attempt” at a serious discussion and ran “fast & wide” with it. 0_~
AND,, ya really covered a plethora of nuances of nudity,,,which will likely spur a lot of discussion on those areas.
Even though I was only intending such nudism to be on a MICRO level,,,
YOUR thoughts on it as a MACRO application is absolutely fine also.
I really hadn’t thought about “going there”,,,but I am happy that you did.

Hmmmmmmmmm….. the fact that ya declined got me to thinking about a whole aspect of public,,,as well as in a limited environment.
NOT that I took your PERSONAL desire to not comment gave rise to this new idea, but I am now wondering how an individual would feel if I now introduce to discussion same-gender ONLY nudity (somewhat touched by gym showing) but w/ the twist of knowing there were Gay/Lesbian individuals also present?

I’ve seen school locker rooms with showers in them.
It’s unusual. On one side we have innocent chaste people who don’t like being nude in any social environment (excluding family). At the other end we have porn stars, teasing models and skin tight clothed cheerleaders who embrace every attempt to show off their bodies.
It is difficult, and often irrelevant, to know how an individual would feel about being nude in a same sex environment, and society pretends to scorn public interference in these matters.
I would choose not to shower with homosexuals/lesbians if there was no other relevant reason to do so. If I was cleaning off after a sporting event then hygiene clearly overwrites the trivial worries of another person’s perception.

Infact one of the big reasons I don’t go to public school is the showers.

LOL,,, Pertokeyo, I think by “on one side” ya mean “on one hand”.
BUT, my mental image of the “girls’ locker room” having “two sides”—one for the shy & one for the “proud”—reminded me of how female high school locker room showers were before they began constructing “group showers” in the 60’s.
They utilized individual little shower stalls w/ curtains. I know this because when our athletic teams would travel to older schools,,,we dressed in the girls’ locker rooms. I wasn’t pulling a “Porkey’s” by doing some peeking…lol
The high school built in ‘64 went for group showering for females. I’m currently connecting w/ the athletic director of the new school (built in ’06) to see if that situation still remains.
Anyone else have info on this they want to share?

There are no public schools that force you to shower. I’m starting to understand why you are opposed to education in other threads; you have some terrifying (although completely false) perception of what occurs in school. Whoever is teaching you these things is feeding you lies that have a fair chance of hindering your future social development.

I’m chronically cold, so I certainly wouldn’t remove all my clothes even if I felt comfortable doing so. I also imagine it would be a strange and perhaps difficult transition, although I’m not really against the idea (well I have health concerns, but that might be a bit off topic).

Hmmmmmmmm…interesting.
Care to share why ya feel this way?
AND,,,what are your thoughts on others participating in various levels of “exposure”?
(I’m NOT talking about seeing porn here…..actual live intermingling of typical ppl.)

Unless the gym teacher was trying to scare me awhile back…. I’m pretty sure he said we had to shower next year.
That’s the year I stopped going to public school.

I wouldn’t have much of a problem being in a nudist camp, although I believe early man obviously wore animal pelts for a reason. I’m really curious as to what these supposed health benefits are. Perhaps you could clarify?

Not doing that sport (or doing it outside school) is also an option if you don’t like the team policy. Hell, asking to do it at a different time than everyone else is also an option. Nothing says you can be forced.

LOL,,,St. A
I’m not sure what your particular “health concerns” are,
BUT, I can assure ya that nudist camp “guidelines” STRONGLY suggest one carry a towel to be used when seated.
AND,,, at most camps…as long as it is obvious that a clothed individual is NOT there as an idiot voyer…nudists really don’t care any too much about what level of undress is attained by anyone. Kind of a “different strokes for different folks” thing. For some ppl, it takes a bit of time to adjust to the situation.
I doubt ya would be cold in Austin, TX (in the summer in the hill country) for some skinny dipping at Hippy Hollow, Travis Lake: http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/parks/hippie_hollow.asp
PLUS, I wholeheartedly agree w/ your comment on “forced nudity” in schools. In fact, a school official recently got into big trouble for requiring a 13 y.o. girl to strip to her under ware for a drug search (of ibuprofen of all things). The case went to the Supreme Court. Strip-search: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/04/19/scotus.strip.search/

True about “early man”….I guess. I’m OLD,,,but NOT that old. 0_~
AND,,, even “current man” (natives in National Geographic—plus Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto”) wore genital “protection”.
Here are a few of the health benefits: http://www.blacksbeach.org/health.html

I’ve been to a nudist camp and respected the rules, though it was quite a while ago. It wasn’t my thing. For one, most of the time I’d feel too cold and would need something to cover me, but I’m also simply not comfortable (any more) to show off anything more than I need.

Transmittal of disease facilitated by the lack of protection mainly.
Also, it seems a bit pointless to me. I mean if you are going to carry a towel, why not wrap it around you for ease? This in turn leads us slowly back to pants.
I doubt ya would be cold in Austin, TX (in the summer)for some skinny dipping at Hippy Hollow, Travis Lake
I live in New England. However, there are nudist colonies up here (I assume they are open only in the summer).

I do understand your concerns about disease.
I once complained to at a McDonald’s when I saw an employee wiping down the table w/ the same cloth she had used to wipe down the seat. Considering there is (usually) the same amount of material separating the genitals from that seat as a towel affords,,,,I expressed my concerns about their “cleaning methods”.
I even called the health department and was told as long as the water/cloth had chlorine in it….it was “okay”. Yeah, right…a Micky D employee is ALWAYS gonna be sure to even have Chlorox or the right amount.
As I said,,,at many camps…the wearing of the towel in that manner is quite acceptable. Usually though, it is merely thrown over the shoulder.
Yeah….while I have no problem w/ nudity,,,,I certainly don’t need cold weather exacting its “usual effect” on the male member….. 0_~
I’d much rather the weather be very warm than fairly chilly.

I’ve heard of nudist ski camps, so i guess a chill doesn’t stop nudism.
I think nudism is ok. I wouldn’t be able to be one myself, but the whole back to nature thing is kind of admirable.

I would partake in a nude beach, but I don’t see the need for extremes. Why be ashamed of nudity, and afraid of it? Why be opposed to clothing and definitions of appropriateness for attire? I wish our society was more comfortable with itself.

LOL,,,, nude or only partially nude doesn’t matter much to these stalwart ppl. Polar bear plunge anyone: http://chicago.grubstreet.com/polar%20bear%20plunge%2008.jpg
Albeit, the experience is a very brief one…… 0_~
I love “Mother Nature”,,,,
but when she gives me the “cold shoulder”,,,,
I know it’s best to stay indoors. lol

Care to open my topic to include how the ramifications our immense love affair w/ “religion” affects the “comfort level” our society has about nudity?
Even though a lot of dowager tongues wag enough to power an oil tanker about how scantily young women dress,,,our society—as a whole—does appear to be quite comfortable w/ PARTIAL NAKEDNESS.
I want to stress that I see a difference between nudity and nakedness.
