The Moon Landing. True or fake?

(I apologize if there is a thread about this already, I tried to do a search on it and the results were only threads of UFOs.)

The moon landing was an amazing accomplishment for NASA, however many people think the landing was fake. I actually have a journalism class where I have to do a report on what people or I personally think about the Moon landing…I believe it would be more interesting if I heard other peoples thoughts about it.

I recently have watched the episodes of the “When we left earth” series that the discovery channel has been showing.

I personally am undecided. There is many things that convince me that it is true and that it is fake. I believe I would be more convinced to come to a decision if I was born during the time of the Apollo missions. I guess I can say I am leaning towards true after watching the series but, there is so many questions I have.

Here are a few things that make me undecided.

9 SPACE ODDITIES:

1. Apollo 14 astronaut Allen Shepard played golf on the Moon. In front of a worldwide TV audience, Mission Control teased him about slicing the ball to the right. Yet a slice is caused by uneven air flow over the ball. The Moon has no atmosphere and no air.

2. A camera panned upwards to catch Apollo 16’s Lunar Landerlifting off the Moon. Who did the filming?

3. One NASA picture from Apollo 11 is looking up at Neil Armstrong about to take his giant step for mankind. The photographer must have been lying on the planet surface. If Armstrong was the first man on the Moon, then who took the shot?

4. The pressure inside a space suit was greater than inside a football. The astronauts should have been puffed out like the Michelin Man, but were seen freely bending their joints.

5. The Moon landings took place during the Cold War. Why didn’t America make a signal on the moon that could be seen from earth? The PR would have been phenomenal and it could have been easily done with magnesium flares.

6. Text from pictures in the article said that only two men walked on the Moon during the Apollo 12 mission. Yet the astronaut reflected in the visor has no camera. Who took the shot?

7. The flags shadow goes behind the rock so doesn’t match the dark line in the foreground, which looks like a line cord. So the shadow to the lower right of the spaceman must be the flag. Where is his shadow? And why is the flag fluttering if there is no air or wind on the moon?

8. How can the flag be brightly lit when its side is to the light? And where, in all of these shots, are the stars?

9. The Lander weighed 17 tons yet the astronauts feet seem to have made a bigger dent in the dust. The powerful booster rocket at the base of the Lunar Lander was fired to slow descent to the moons service. Yet it has left no traces of blasting on the dust underneath. It should have created a small crater, yet the booster looks like it’s never been fired.

If you want to read it all and view the pictures…Especially the one that says “One of the earthrise photos. The Flat Earth Society used these photos as evidence of a faked landing, since they show a spherical Earth.”

Again I do apologize if there is a thread about this that did not appear on the search. Like I said. I have alot to ask and say but, I would prefer listening to other people and their thoughts and their beliefs in this.

The “slice” is due to the offset angle of the camera, the lack of proper perspective, and lack of freedom of movement making ti nigh impossible to hit it in a straight line.

2. A camera panned upwards to catch Apollo 16’s Lunar Landerlifting off the Moon. Who did the filming?

Panning a camera isn’t a technically difficult feat. They can land on the moon, but not direct a small motor to turn slowly?

See above. Cameras don’t require people to run them.

Have you ever seen one of those suits in person? They’re hugely bulky affairs, and take a lot of training to learn to use well.

They pressure itself isn’t actually a huge problem, it’s easily dealt with. Temperature is a far harder problem to deal with.

If the pressure inside the suit is higher than the football, that’s because the football is deliberately inflated far far less than is normal.

Seen from the earth? Are you mad? have you any idea how far away the moon is? We would need a lot more than a few flares to see it from here. A small nuke might do it.

No one. They planted cameras on tripods. Actually trying to hold a came in a bulky suit like that would be an exercise in futility.

The flag flutters due to minor vibrations in the flag pole, due to wrinkles in the flag itself working themselves out, and due to the fact that the flag was not perfectly still to begin with, and there is no air to act as a brake. It’s not “fluttering” it’s vibrating. As for the rest, without seeing the piccie I can’t say.

The flag can be lit easily by lights probably. Or by the sun, dunno which of the two it is. As for stars, they’re extremely dim objects, and only modern digital cameras can correct for differences in light sensitivity. Any film camera that was sensitive enough to show stars would have been over exposed for the astronauts and moon itself. They used equipment that was suited to the purpose. You can take a basic film photography class yourself to check this one out.

But enough of the basic claims. Think about what you are truly saying for a moment. That there was a massive conspiracy in NASA to fake the moon landings, and a massive coverup to this day. The Russians or anyone else would have crucified them if they had tried. triangulating radio signals isn’t all that hard to do, to test where they were coming from. If they have come from anywhere but the moon we would know about it.

BUT MAN, HOW DID THEY LINE UP THE SHOTS SO WELL IF NO ONE WAS AIMING THE CAMERA, MAN? I JUST THINK, YOU KNOW MAN, THAT THE GOVERNMENT WOULD LIKE DO THAT TO ITS PEOPLE, RIGHT?

I hate conspiracy theories more than extremist religions and the dentist combined.

If the moon landing were fake, you wouldn’t be able to find remnants from that landing in telephotos of the moon’s surface. Unless they genuinely went through a bunch of work to place all of that stuff there a few months later? If that’s the case, they’re just lazy. “Wanna go to to the moon?” “Eh, next month.” “But the Russians will do it first.” “Well we’ll just shoot a video, make it look like we did, and then put a few tracks in the sand when we get up there.” “But Dave, do you realize how much money it’d cost to fake a moon landing? We’d have to invent like 30 different film technologies.” “Whatever man, get me another beer.”

They probably planted the camera on a tripod or something of the sort. I highly doubt that an astronaut would be able to hold a small camera in a suit that was approximately 3/16” thick and had 11 layers of materials.

crackpot conspiracy theories never cease to amaze and entertain me, and mass2chaos im RELATIVELY sure that BSG wasn’t being serious when he said that….

i’m with TheBSG or pretty much everyone who posted here. Just want to add that to fake it would have been more difficult a stunt to pull off at that point of technical development than just actually doing it. It’s been confirmed the CIA brought forth plans to rig Fidel Castro’s shoes with a tonic to make his beard fall out, which suggests that some of the evidence lockers filled by the war on drugs might have been emptied into mouthes, nostrils and general bodily orifices of decisionmakers at that time, i’ll admit that, but 1. you could say the same thing, minus the decisionmaking, about a lot of the people who tend to believe these things (that’s why they’re called crackpot theories), and 2. a huge freaking lot of people would know about it and would probaly have spoken up when the craze about the theory came about. if you think you can make a fairly watchable film (of anything) with a few low-end cameras, some trusted friends and 3 weeks of time on your hands, you’ve obviously never had to present – and sit through the other people’s presentations of – a highschool documentary video. you’d need experienced filming crew, someone to rent (or buy, but that would be suspicious enough at these scales) like 7 state-of-the-art cameras from, FX, lighting & sound specialists… if you’re keeping really low profile, i’d still estimate a crew of at the very, very least 30 people, most of which would not have any connection to your organisation and thus no real reason to keep quiet, and paying them and their family off (remember, those were days of idealism!) up until now actually would be more expensive than just building the damn vessel. the only reason to do it would be for the heck of it, and i don’t think they were that high.

Don’t start to think of me as a nonbeliever or a plumber (fixing the “leaks”), that is a crazy mentality. Seriously.

Nevermind how perfectly all of the film fit together, do you realise how many people would have to be in on this if it were a conspiracy? So many certified archeologists, NASA scientists, politicians, filmmakers, actors, family members etc would have to keep this secret and in case you didn’t notice, the US government is bad at keeping secrets.

OF COURSE the United States went to the moon. Reality check, dude.

I love what I am hearing…Alot of good feedback, and to clear something up. I do not believe these oddities, they were from a website I was reading to get more information on the moon landing…I was just posting that to see how people felt about them.

I think I have come to believe this, I do believe we landed on the moon and it was very successful for a first time mission. I did also believe they might have put camera’s on the tripods that was pretty simple I’m sure. There is only one thing I believe is fake.

I believe after the Apollo 1 incident they may have faked the moon landing to beat the Soviet Union to the moon. I did enjoy reading your comments Redem the most. You have brought up excellent points. Like I said, I was only posting information from the website with the oddities.

I think it is real but whatever. There is another group of conspiracy theorists who say that not only DID we land but the government wants to hide what they know is up there. There are shots supposedly from a Russian orbiter where you can see some sort of “tower” disappear over the horizon. There are pictures of the surface that they say look like nicely lined up cities that were obliterated. The pictures look believable but who knows. One thing that seems to be true is that NASA and the national archives lost 700+ boxes of the original film.

That sucks that they lost 700+ boxes, and thats why I’m sure alot of people think its fake because of incidents like that…I was talking to my mother and she thinks the same as I did about the Apollo 1 incident and the fake landing to beat the Soviet Union…She than again mentioned how some people think the Holocaust was fake…(Which is absurd and please don’t get into this subject in this thread.)

(He’s an astrology professor, and has a telescope capable of looking at the rings of Saturn) Along with me, and 100000s of other people, I’m pretty sure we would’ve found a ruined city on the moon’s surface by now. Its becuase of the material used. Its almost transparent, letting some light through.

Easily? I doubt it. There is NO way a magnesium flare would be visible, either.

Sure, I can help. I couldn’t find the other sources that I had seen for the boxes being lost so try to verify it. Now, this is a 6 part series on youtube of the famous radio show “Coast to Coast AM”. Anyone who knows this show knows it can range from amazingly revealing and accurate to crazy tinfoil hat stuff. I am not posting this as fact but as possible evidence for past inhabitation of the moon and unknown civilizations in our past. From my recollection, part 1 is drawn out about how the tapes were lost, 2-4 is the meaty stuff, and I spaced out during 5/6. The idea of inhabitatants on the moon is pretty weak.

I was reading an article about how that moon sand would be used as insulation if we ever colonized the moon… I think they said it’d take 9ft or 9M… I forget =-P

Also, how would they survive? The moon gets VERY hot/cold, no oxygen, no water, and has no means of sustaining any life.

It takes metres of rock to protect from the radiation, so we would need to be deeeep underground. And any electronics on the surface would be destroyed in short order by the radiation, so it would need to be mechanical equipment on the surface, not electronic ones.

The moon doesn’t even exist. If there was a giant rock up there, it’d crush us all. I mean, seriously, people, listen to logic and reason.
