Do Mods have the right to make fun of users?

DO MODS HAVE THE RITES TO MAKE FUN OF U? BECAUSE U GOT BAND FROM THEM BEFORE PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION =D I NEED TO KNOW..

If the owners of the forum let them, yes, well, they would have the privilege to do so.

Do you mean the forum mods or chat mods? Either way, I don’t believe they have the right to mock you in any way. Seems like very un-mod like behavior to fight with players.

There is a difference between making fun of someone and abusing someone. Anyone can make fun you or anyone else. Heck I’m tempted to make fun of you for typing in all caps. Jk. But seriously: caps lock it not your friend.

I would imagine that if a mod had banned you before then that would deserve some making fun of…

thats stupid and its unfair they shouldent give the rites for em to make fun of uthey already got anoth power they should just give uwarnings and bans not no trash talking to other players cuz that happens to me all the time..

A mod has the right to make fun of you, though it is somewhat frowned upon. A mod generally has fewer rights than an individual user. More importantly though, a mod does not have the right to hold a double standard (i.e. to make fun of you but then chastise you for making fun of someone else). If a mod chooses to be more laid back in chat I don’t see a big problem with it (though, as doblukebob said, there is a difference between chiding and abusing), as long as they are consistent and not cruel.

By the way, there’s an edit button in the forums so you don’t have to double post. Not to mention I have no idea what “the” you were correcting, nor why you decided to correct that one imaginary word and none of the other numerous typos in your post…

Also, I modified the title to take off the caps and make it a little clearer. Feel free to change the title if you want, but please avoid the caps in thread titles at least.

everyone has the right to make fun of anyone who qualifies (and yes, typing in all-caps and getting banned qualify).

I thinks it’s fine for mods to tease with users as long as they know they’re teasing. It’s like teasing in real life. It can be taken the wrong way and then the other person feels bullied.

I actually jokingly commented on this a day or two ago (since been deleted by the topic maker): It’s one of the perks of our job. We need perks, right? :P

No. No one has any right to ridicule others. I dislike those whose mentalities’ are that a new person is one to be tried and put through tribulations as well as endure insults. So in reflection, no, mods do not have any right to make fun of users.

personally i think its just a websiteyou dont know the people here and they dont know you in my opinion sure let them to a certain degree i mean these furms are getting to serious we need some mods to losen up

Looking at your recent posts it would seem only fair to make fun of you. And I really think moderators know what they can and can’t do. They usually appear to me as reasonable people.

I agree with this, but I do make fun of users. Note that this is not a topic about mocking new users, it’s about mocking users in general. I’m actually most polite to new users because I want to encourage them to stay and become a part of the community. It’s when an old user does/says something stupid (or starts trolling) that they’re likely to get a jibe or two from me.

Mods are people too :)

Everyone can do whatever they want. Making fun of you falls under that category.

Not exactly Kasha – there’s a difference between “are able” and “allowed”. Mods are indeed expected to be held to higher standards. I think the question is whether or not those standards include never mocking or poking-fun at users (and I don’t think it does).
