I was talking to my brother the other day, and I mentioned:
“Man, wouldn’t it be cool if cloning became relatively cheap, so we woudln’t have to pay so much cash for a good meal of lobster or crab or whatever, since they can just be cloned?”.
He said that it would result in religious people screaming bloody murder. But I always though religious people felt that their god promotes them to use animals for our own growth or whatever as much as possible (with the exceptions of religions who worship or revere animals, such as hindu with cows or whatever).

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more humane it is imo. You could clone meat probably, without the creature, so you wouldn’t need to subject them to slaughterhouses or whatever that animals go thru in farms or whatever.

It’s the whole defying god nonsense they always spout
if god creates every person in his image what happens when a person creates another person
it’s just another downfall of (not all) but most religious views
Out of all things that i dislike about religions it’s when they
hinder medical advancement that pisses me off the most

I’m Christian and see no problem with cloning animals. Also God was supposed to have created people in his own image, not animals.
Also can someone explain to me why this is supposed to be ‘defying God’?
EDIT: Ohh you mean just growing the meat and not the whole animal? Nope, don’t care either.

Well
Im not Christian but I have a fair Idea on what some of their Ideas would be;
Catholicism;
Desecrating God’s Creation.
Quakers;
So long as it doesnt result in violence.
Fundamentalists;
No.
Liberals;
S’all good.

I’m not really sure what you mean by “cloning meat”, though I suppose someone may have figuered out how to do it. Doesn’t really seem like “cloning” though. I’m surprised you headed in the direction of food though – the much more interesting question is regarding human cloning and the soul.

Foodwise, it’s not really cloning that will be the breakthrough, but being able to grow protein meat from scratch without ever raising a cow. Ethical meat, cheap and healthy.

Cloning really isn’t effective when growing food. It doesn’t save much time, or money. You can just let the cows have babies and it works better.

Cloning humans defeats Christianity. According to the Christian view, God created man in his image, and if man creates in man’s image, we are thus slighting God. Also, since every human is supposed to be given a soul as a gift from God, this human would essentially be soulless. A soulless human defeats the concept of God.

yeah I know cloning food doesn’t really save time or money.. yet.. But as I said, it would be cool if we ever reach that level of cloning technology where it WILL be cheaper/faster…and even better. As for talking about food and not people. I didn’t post to start a bid discussion, I was just curious for myself the possibilities of finally being able to enjoy a nice lobster meal without paying for 10 meals, I was daydreaming, and was wondering if anybody had a problem with it as much as my brother thought.

as for cloning humans with souls and such. If someone cloned a human, imo. Assuming that God wouldn’t give it a soul would be an assumption in of itself even if you already assume the religion being true.
Some religious people think God is all loving or whatever, some don’t. Basically it boils down to that imo. An all loving god would recognize that the said cloned person is not at fault for being born a clone, and would give them a soul anyway. If I were god, I would do just that. Why should a cloned person lack something supposedly more important than life itself just because they were cloned when they had no power or ability to prevent themselves from being born that way.

Are you attempting to say “God hates Identical Twins?”

hmm.. wait..
don’t identical twins already defeat the purpose of cloning
being un-ethical
since an identical twin is essentially a clone
since the egg splits in the womb

Aren’t identical twins, although appearing identical; not genetically identical?

Does it really matter? I mean, it’s illegal.

Why is it illegal?

Why wouldn’t identical clones be genetically identical?

Fear.
More like “we don’t know science and are afraid someone is going to clone me to take my office.”

Well, I’m going to set aside all the obvious reasons, and go for the main reason why “religious people” think that it’s wrong.
It’s rather similar to playing God. He made us all individual, unique, and that is not to be tampered with.

……its NOT illegal to clone animals but it is illegal to clone people? wouldnt cloning animals be like playing god too?

Much like he made idenitical twins unique.

I’ve never seen two EXACTLY IDENTICAL twins, have you? I’ve seen some that are similar, and look identical on the outside, but they are not 100% the same. They have different thoughts, feelings, and a soul. Their mind may work differently. They may be of opposite gender, in fact.
……its NOT illegal to clone animals but it is illegal to clone people? wouldnt cloning animals be like playing god too?
Not entirely. In fact, He designed many creatures which rely on cloning for reproduction, such as the aphid. I see no reason why plants and animals cannot be cloned, especially if it benefits humans.
Even back at the beginning of time, we were given dominion over the animals, created in God’s image (unlike animals) and we were also allowed, even commanded, to kill animals.
