Why is it that from the beginning of time man has always seen it fit to knock some other faction off the face of the Earth? The Holy Crusades, the World Wars, and even skirmishes in Sudan and Chad. All of these were sparked either or monetary, land, or religious affairs. Why do we do this? Is it basic instinct? Is it pure greed and cruelty? Or is it something else?

Even some monkeys exhibit primitive forms of warfare, so I would suppose this makes the case for “human nature”. As long as there are limited resources (in actuality or by belief) people will fight over them.

I’m going to ask my question again, Why? Why do we HAVE to fight over it? We couldn’t make peace with them and search for more resources?

It takes more time and energy to cooperate than to bash the other guy over the head with a rock. People don’t like being patient or having to think.

But that can change. Why don’t we?

Because there will be always be someone with ambition that wants power and is willing to archive it by any means necessary.

umm no, Iraq, almost 9 years
as of today, nov 23 574 billion spent
more time and energy? bullshit
and we CAN have unlimited energy now! solar, thermal, wind, hydroelectric
i dont see why were not advancing unless there is an agenda of population control in the mix

…all take up large amounts of space and are less cost-effective than fossil fuels.
Also, however much electricity we can generate, there are still limited resources. Iron, gold, platinum, rare-earth metals – there are not enough of these materials for everyone to do what they want with them. Also, probably more importantly, land – especially fertile land suitable for growing foodstuffs – is in short supply compared to our population.

Renewable energies do not have the capacity to meet the United states energy needs. If all the fossil fuel power plants of today were replaced with renewable solar, wind, ect. the energy they create would only serve about half the need of the united states.

Yes, that’s why they’re going to be replaced with Nuclear stations. Which is renewable.
As long as their is man their is war. Look, consider this. All armies disbanned. It only takes 1 guy with ambition to get togther a large enough army for total control. Or an alien race.

That’s just really bad fighting. You could have been in and out in a month or two.

no thats a misconception, actually if we just put wind farms over one state we can provide electricity for the whole continental US, now thats just the area it would take, but if we put them in lets say 10 states with only 10% that much, we can make it happen
also thermal energy works good and is not well known, as well as tidal.
Or an alien race.
i highly doubt a alien race would travel billions of miles or more to start a fight, and if they would start a fight, it would be becuase we seem hostile to them becuase we have all these wars. Plus, if they have the technology to travel that much, they can blow up earth or just nuke us from orbit without us even getting a chance to fire back.

fossil fuels will eventually run out, we got to start looking at the long term and not focus on a few more dollars in our pocket for today, and even if we had unlimited fossil fuels the polution from them for them in the future would make living here unbearable.

wait wasnt the whole war supposed to be on making Iraq “stable”, if the intention was to just leave it in chaos then your plan would work.

i think the example they renewable enrgy site used was missouri, if not it was one of the prarie states, they get alot of wind there, if we put windfarms in the great plains we can power all of the US

cough-resources-cough But yeah, good point they might not even need to fight us.

Still, if you didn’t care so much about public appearance you could still have done it within a year.

Just like fossil fuels, land will also eventually run out. We have to look at what we really need to achieve, and make the most efficient use of our resources, rather than dedicating thousands of acres of otherwise usable land to do something we can do more efficiently with fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels will hold us over until waste-free nuclear power becomes available. At which point, wind farms will be obsolete.

Shouldn’t the title be “what is it good for?” Not “Good God, Y’all”
EDIT: Just noticed the ad is quite topic. (see picture link)

Umm, we can put solars panels on the Roofs of houses, saving space (like you said) and getting us renewable energy.
Cmon, is renewable energy such a crazy idea, that we need to keep using fossil fuels?

To toss my two cents in, the main reason for wars and such things mainly revolve around the human desire for power, wealth, and satisfaction. And so on and so forth. The examples in the first post all started from people desiring more power/influence, money, or other things. That’s a core aspect of human nature that reveals itself when humans focus on themselves.
On the resource discussion, while alternate energy is useful, even United States (spanning the widest array of climate-zones of all countries, to my knowledge) couldn’t rely solely ,or even mostly, upon alternate energy. Wind turbines require specific conditions to be useful, as do both thermal and solar energy. I live in Georgia myself, and the climate renders both solar and thermal energy essentially useless to us. Additionally, wind turbines wouldn’t work that well down here. :S
I think we’re pretty much stuck partially relying on fossil fuels until efficient nuclear fusion is developed.
