From this story it seems as if China is increasing it’s harassment of U.S. Navy ships.

I will keep it simple.

Why would they do that if it is in international waters?

“The Chinese crewmembers disrobed to their underwear and continued closing to within 25 feet.”

Sounds to me like they went completely insane.

Is it actually China the country? I’d have thought the country was doing nothing, being inanimate and such.

Sounds to me like they went completely insane.

Don’t call my orders insane! I mean…

See this is cause you lot lost us our empire. We’d have had our navy still and would rule the seas.

Sometimes the area of international waters is disputed. Perhaps something was going on, and the Chinese needed to distract the Americans. Anything could explain it from misunderstanding of borders, to distraction because they were running drugs or guns or something and didnt want the US vessel to see them, to military operations that they wanted to move the US ships out of the area before they could conduct.

Don, their economy isn’t communist any more, but their government system sure is. The Chinese have no real say in how their government control their daily lives.

What confuses me is, why would China openly show hostility toward their mealticket? The only reason the U.S. tolerates their oppressive government and blatant crimes against humanity is because of the revenue both nations gain through mutual trade. So why risk losing trillions of dollars a year by behaving like bullies toward our naval ships?

Hey Conco, rather than be harsh and abrasive, maybe you can open your head up a little bit and make your points without insulting the other contributors to the thread. Your behavior in the forums should be as polite and courteous as we mods enforce it in the chatrooms.

So play nice!

Sorry to say that China does not need the United States. If they pulled out all the money that they have invested in the United States economy, the economy would collapse. The Chinese would just rather get paid than not get paid. They are really being way too nice to the United States.

id like to see the chinese come and take their money they would get a barrel up the arse and find one behind every blade of grass.

If we’re REALLY gonna split hairs about Chinas govt… its ACTUALLY a socialist republic, ruled by the Communist Party of China under a single-party system.. and thats the PRC not to be confused with the ROC which is actually Taiwan. Go figure.

This really isnt any sort of a suprise if youve been following China’s shenanigans over the past few decades. Hell, the govt steps in and tells musical bands whether they can or cant play in china, AND create the set list.
They have full and total controll over the people, hell look at the olympics and the giant walls and barriers they erected to hide the slums, all the cutting back they had to pull last minute in hopes of upping the air quality.
China has an incredibly powerful and unfortunately dangerous, as most govts. get, when theyre intimidated by other world powers, and get scared. scared people in power are always dangerous. It wont be too long till they far outweigh the US… we’re already suckling their economic teat for sustinance thanks to the massive deficit we’re currently in.

One of the major contributing factors to the current US economy is the huge national debt. Don’t forget that nearly seven hundred billion dollars of that debt is what the US owes China. Also, I am sure that It will not come to a war, at least for now. We simply do not have the resources for ANOTHER war against a much stronger enemy than the ones we are facing.

DD, it’s actually in International waters, where they have no jurisdiction whatsoever.

That depends on whether the person you’re asking is American or Chinese.

Good point I suppose, but the news articles I’ve read on it are from Reuters, a very honorable and trustworthy non-American news source. So I just sort of figured they’re neutral on the subject.

The chinese are keeping everyone away while they handle Tibet right now, this just made the news because it consisted of Chinese sailors stripping down and getting soaked with fire hoses.

From what I understand the U.S. Navy ship was actually a merchant marine ship with no means to defend itself? Why would the navy allow this ship to go off on it’s own without some kind of protection? Not even one destroyer?

Also related, does anyone know if China has a aircraft carrier, or has plans to build some?

To me if they go full steam ahead and start to build several advanced aircraft carriers THEN I would start to worry about their intentions. I don’t think the excuse ‘we need them for trade’ will fly..

A destroyer off the coast of China would present a whole new array of problems.

Soon they will. (maybe)
