Let’s have a discussion about our political values.
I’m a bit contradictory, myself.
On many issues I lean towards socialism. While, on other issues, I lean towards fascism.
I would still describe myself as a leftist overall.
I believe the philosophy of John Locke in its original form to be a practical means of governing a people. A society where everyone is guaranteed their basic rights as a human being, and where others have a moral obligation to aid others. I understand that Socialism won’t work in most societies (rare cases include the Mormon Pioneers) because of the fact that human beings are inherently selfish, however, I still believe Socialism in its true form is the best means of government.

Ahh! Political parties!
Some guy named George Washington (anyone ever heard of him?) didn’t believe in political parties. And neither do I, the reason being that associating yourself with a party implies that you agree with everything the party believes in. Which is not true for me.

Political party? Republican Sinn Féin.
Ideology? Hardline Republican.
www.politicalcompass.org Has me at:
Economic Left/Right: -0.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.15

I’m not really left/right oriented at all, which I’m glad this shows. If anything I’d say my philosophy would be “Leave me the hell alone.”

in my opinion it’s the right idea but has not been developed right.

I almost hit the exact same spot, Iggy. I’m a bit closer to the horizontal line by one square.

I consider myself a social libertarian (my political status on facebook.) Practically, I am a democrat, although I don’t agree with all they stand for. I am against irrational tradition and unquestioning allowance of authority. I believe that governments are established in order to protect the rights of the people, which would include (in my model) freedom from despotism, whether it be authoritarian, religious, or economic. This means laws should be based on preserving rights, and not cultural/religious morals (be they correct or not), and punishments should be of such a nature that they eliminate the risk of damage to society, instead of emotional retaliation.

well said.

For the most part, I agree. However, you select the party that best represents what you believe in. You don’t have to agree with everything, but, they’re your best bet for what direction you want America to go.
Oh, btw. I’m a Libertarian, but since they don’t stand a chance in hell to win an election any time soon, I go Republican.
I’m the opposite of Obama, whatever that is called.
That’s called the ‘correct side’ welcome to it.

But in all honesty, if I could really look into the soul of politicians, i would choose the most trustworthy, ethical, and moral person before i would look at any “views” of theirs. (IE going to a church with a racist pastor)Unfortunately this is not possible to the extent I would like. I would much rather choose someone who “would make a poor decision” but would be honest enough to admit it. Unlike politicians now a days who already have their decisions made and stay with them regardless of the outcome.

I am…… nothing. I never vote. I never complain. I just…… watch and learn.
And wait. I am not corrupted by the political parties. I am swift and powerful.
I am ready for when it happens.

About the same spot where darkninja and the dalai lama are. I expected to be a bit more centered, but I like where I am.
There isn’t really a political party I would like to be associated with.

Hah, I was looking at the politicalcompass last week. I was pretty much where Searth is, but less left and more libertarian – maybe one square each. Apparently this means I’m closest to the Green Party’s values (in the UK) and I’d be happy to vote for them if they stopped being so sensationalist and actually applied some realism.

Here in Belgium there is a green party, but now that the time is excellent for a green, active, rational government, all I have heard from them is that they want more safety for cyclists. Until very recently they rarely made notable statements about the enviroment. Not exactly the best way to save the world. They started a new campaign now, let’s see how that turns out.

I was : Economic Left/Right: -1.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.23
I’m not sure how to post images, but from the centre I was 5 down and 2 left.
I will be eligible to vote in ther next UK general election, for the first time. I would vote for a minority party like the Greens, but due to the First Past the Post electoral system in the UK it seems like a wasted vote, although as the main parties are all useless I’ll probably end up voting Monster Raving Loony Party.

We should start an international political party. Not sure what to do with it then.
Conco is a bit extreme though, I wonder what filled in to be the most left and libertarian person on the website (even the politicalcompass website).
