Politically, Russia or South Africa.

Just curious, why South Africa?

Also: Somalia is really starting to become a pit, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it worthless.

i dont feel any country is worthless, they all have people in them that value them, and really that is all that matters……but, if you held a gun to my head and said choose, i would have to pick Pakistan. According to my World Politics professor, they are on the verge of being a failed nation and that’s just sad.

Starting? Somalia hasn’t recovered from the collapse of their state in the 1920s, after multiple “expeditions” by the British to control that part of Africa. Basically it’s been a big mess since then. Same story as many other African countries I guess, except that Somalia was sovereign throughout most of the colonial era.

Anyway, I believe the notion of countries is an outmoded concept, along with patriotism. I regard myself much more as someone adhering to western culture than as a Dutch citizen.

Were I to take a guess… I’d say pretty much all micro nations.

I could catch flak for this, but Nigeria is pretty much nothing but useless e-mail scams at this point. India is nothing but cheap outsourcing with sweeping poverty but everyone just pretends they “like it” that way and they get to call themselves a 1st world country. It’s the China model, but backwards. Speak of the devil, I wouldn’t live in China unless you paid me barrels of million dollar bills, or made it possible for me to breathe safely and use the internet. That said, I wouldn’t live anywhere with restricted internet, including Dubai. Oh, another shitty place I forgot to mention.

While I commend and somewhat agree with Aaron_ that these places are all probably wonderful to visit or have some value, I still think it’s equally unfair to ignore the fact that a majority of the world is horrible and sad. There’s no way to say for example that rich African countries still letting their people think raping virgins will cure aids is just “different” or could still offer something. There are places that are human shitholes, and the people living there would barely call it their lives. I’ve listed a few of them.

i heard that they’ve been investing alot recently, as a plan for the future, so they have money for when oil does run out, and i heard that they had plenty left, something like 12% of world oil. source: Gawdat Bahgat, authority on oil and the middle east.

Yes they are running out of oil but they are investing the money they currenty have for future revenue

I read a piece a while back stating how, often resource rich nations that rely on the revenue generated by say, oil, often lose out in the long term, because the focus for so long is on extraction, that the economy loses its capacity to produce anything else. Once the revenue dries up there’s not enough capital to create new businesses, thus they are screwed. I’ll try and find the link to the article tommorrow.

the gulf monarchies tried to other stuff but failed, agriculture failed because of lack of water or good land, industrialization failed because of a population that failed, tourism failed because of some laws they have regarding rooming in hotels and on the beaches, there is one other i learned about, but i forget it.

actually i was taught that the UAE was very good at spreading the wealth, i mean they own the oil, and everyone practically works for the government because there are not many other job opportunities for them, so they pay good because they make good money.

I want to run a bulldozer right through Sealand, But I would lol if some real country decreed it as for real ;)
