http://stormen.wordpress.com/2009/08/27/congo-sues-norway-for-500-billion-dollars/

Two Norwegians kill their driver while traveling through the jungles of the DR of Congo (Possibly), and may be punished with execution, and the government immediately identifies them as spies based on very strenuous evidence. Unfortunately, the world press has not yet picked up on this story, and all news reports are in Norwegian.

Some evidence put forth by the court:

The two men were carrying GASP Norwegian drivers licenses.
A picture on a cell phone of a man in a beret pointing at Congo on a map.
This

Claimed the men were part of the Kings Guard, an elite special ops unit, who in reality are the equivalent of London’s Beef-eaters.
Norway is part of the EU (What?).

All of the witnesses have been reassigned as “Informants”, meaning they do not have to swear an oath, and can request money. The owner of the car has requested over 1 million dollars and the family of the driver have requested 1 million each, grandparents, aunts, all of them.

So, are the men responsible at all? Even if they are, does the DR of Congo deserve the money?

So 2 guys kill a driver and that happens, wow, seriously, they get $500 Billion and want to kill the 2 guys, this should be stopped and the guys trialed in Norway. And if they were elite troops then its even worse.

A country is not responsible for individual human actions.

You have to admit the facial features in that picture do raise some questions.

The Important Questions
1.What are Norwegians doing in Africa in the first place?
2.What is a Norwegian doing wearing a beret?

This is one seriously messed up case. A country is not responsible for the independent actions of its citizens, and what court could not see this as a huge scan by the DR of Congo to get some money?

There is absolutely NO possible way they could get even $500 million, let alone $500 billion :/,its obviously a ploy to get attention/drama/money.

The family should be entitled to some compensation money if they did murder him. But $500 billion? Good luck.

Oh, and one question: How exactly does the DRC plan to enforce the ruling?

$500 billion dollars? For a murder? Damn, they’re desperate. That makes as much sense as a Sarah Palin campaign.

Palin/Clinton ’12. In all seriousness, a country shouldnt be responsible for someone killing someone else. Its plain wrong because people die everyday, in countries other then their own.

Why would U.S. special forces rescue Norwegian citizens?

Just send over sweet Willy Clinton, he’ll get them back in no time.

Also, the report is that the evidence presented by the state attorney DRC that they are spies or part of an elite group is because they have driver’s licenses, which were issued in Norway, since that is where they are from. And there is no evidence they killed the guy, just that they witnessed it.

Just to clarify it since the first few responses seem to have missed the point.

…. you don’t understand… I used the SFOD-D as an example. Norway can use their own SF.

This is just such an odd topic. I think the people in charge of these countries just need to settle down.

What was their motive for killing him? It doesn’t make sense to me yet.

When Europeans go to the Congo, it’s tradition to kill some of the natives.

In all seriousness though,

In the Republic of Congo, a surreal scenario is playing out: Two Norwegian citizens, Tjostolv Moland and Joshua French, have been jailed, apparently due to involvement in a murderscene in which an innocent cabdriver was killed. The Republic of Congo claims the Norwegians killed the driver over a money dispute – the Norwegians claims they were nothing more than witnesses to the crime, perpetrated by unknown gunmen in the middle of the jungle.

It’s République Démocratique du Congo, not just République du Congo…
The guys shouldn’t be trialed in Norway, they committed a serious crime and should be trialed in the country where they did it. They know it is a country with a lot of corruption and rebellion groups.
If it was taken by Congolese, the guy wouldn’t be holding a thing(a flashlight?) in his other hand.(can’t even see a baret on that picture…)

If they want to use that evidence trying to get the men into jail, why not just send them in without? It’s equally ridiculous. To prove a murder with Norwegian drivers’ licenses, pictures that do not show anything, and Norway being part of the EU is like saying I killed president Kennedy because grass is green.

And, uh, they can request all the money they want, it’s not like they’ll get it.

Well, I’m Norwegian and read some lots of those news, so I might be on the Norwegians side by no valid reason, but.. Well, first, the picture: It doesn’t have to be a human, also, they claim to be standing in the front of the car, a little bit to the right as they shot. How come there’s blood splattered on the inside of the right door of the car? In addition, If that guy had a gun, I guess it would be attached to his belt, which only holds a knife and a camera or something. Also, where’s the proof this is human blood? Or maybe even it might be photoshopped? There’s a lot of possibilities that this is fake. Quoting Darkruler2005 “If they want to use that evidence trying to get the men into jail, why not just send them in without?”. Well, they already did. The men were transferred back and forth between various prisons, so the norwegian diplomats and the Ministery of Foreign Affairs had no idea where the Norwegians were. Is this legal? Yes, I’m totally on the Norwegians side, but seriously, I’m writing what the Norwegian newspapers wrote, so.. Don’t blame me, I might not know the complete truth, but I know some of it, and if that’s the whole truth, this is an hilarious case. (BTW, the one guy, dunno which one of them, is also partly an UK state citizen, so I guess this doesn’t only affect Norway.. Dunno where I read that, but I did, seriously)

They’re only in jail because their case is still going on. I meant going into jail as punishment.

Should I also mention in thus thread that both Octomom and Susan Boyle were offered $1,000,000 (USD) each to star in a porn film, by the same company?

Some just do these types of things for publicity, not for real.
