I know that a PC is a “Personal Computer” But computers that are non-Mac go by that name. So which is better?

I say Mac for many reasons: (1) You never get the blue screen of death, (2) You rarely ever see things, quit, idle, stall or freeze on you. I have been using one mac for over 3 years and it has never quit anything on me or frozen. EVER. (3) Macs are sleeker, generally smaller (disregard that piece of crap macbook air) and faster. (4) The programs macs run are faster, easier to use and generally run better than their PC counterparts.

I have more to say but I shall reserve it.

http://www.our-picks.com/archives/2007/02/05/th… is some interesting videos that differ from the Mac vs. PC commercials. To quote from the website: “they’re not made in order to harm the Mac, and they don’t deny the qualities portraied in the Mac ads, but they observe the PC’s own qualities, without denying the Mac’s.”

I don’t really know enough about either system to form a debate, just thought the videos were interesting =p

MACS FTW! They really are superior. You know the whole “Windows 95 = Macintosh 89” campaign. Well, it’s right. We’re so good that we can run your cruddy OS and ours at the SAME TIME. That is, if we really wanted to. Served on a silver platter. Ignore the fact that Apple products are grossly overpriced. Buy refurbished. Then everyone is happy.

The main reason mac is better then windows, is that they seem to improve on there operating system, instead of starting off fresh every 4-5. And macs don’t get viruses. Actually, my friends mac would freeze up sometimes, that only started happening after he dropped it. My windows computer freezes all the time, and will randomly start running slower, even with me doing anything new.

Bootcamp. That means we can run your crap (as nerdrock101) mentioned, and our Great stuff. But, who would wanna run any .exe files or anything else PC exclusive when you have a mac? That’s what I thought.

What about a PC running Linux? PC != Windoze.

I use a PC at home and I’ve used Macs at work. the iMac was a POS, that should be apparent. The G4 I used later on was nice. I didn’t see anything that made it much better than PC, though, other than its search function, which rocked. Just different.

Also, isn’t it difficult/impossible to upgrade a mac? I wouldn’t want a computer where I couldn’t upgrade my hdd or other hardware.

I’m a gamer and programmer. Therefore I choose the PC platform because frankly most software out there is written for it. If I didn’t need to play games I’d switch to Linux. Moving from the PC to the Mac, another proprietary platform, would make no sense, especially since it has a much narrower base of software available to it.

I’ve used many kinds of machines, from Amigas and BBCs, to Macs and NECs. The only thing I care about is the damn computer should run the stuff I throw at it. The next and only other consideration would be price.

I always found Macs overpriced and not worth it considering my PC with Window’s seemed to work just as well (I hardly ever get virus’s or freeze, so I don’t know what some of you guys have problems with).

Well said Aensland.

Btw, From what I’ve heard, a mac is notoriously hard to upgrade. Then again, what do I know?

Macs ARE notoriously hard to upgrade. You can’t service it yourself AT ALL. I upgrade my computer once in a while by throwing a new graphics card or more RAM in it, but I couldn’t do that with a Mac because everything is in the monitor which is bad to take apart in the first place.

goes off to figure out his Mac emulator

My problem is I’m not used to that Apple key and the weird taskbar down the bottom. Plus I find the keyboards harder to use.

The monitors look cool though XD

@Henry 1) That’s no lie, you guys don’t get the Blue Screen of Death, instead you get this example of wonderful Mac design.

Who doesn’t just love the Kernal Panic screen?

2) Most of the time, that’s due to your weakling programs. Although, that’s one nice stolen from Unix operating system you have. That’s right, OSX is based on a Unix modification called Darwin. Why write code when 95% of your users don’t even know what code is? I’d hardly call Mac reliability the work of Apple. Although…I have a subscription to APC and every few issues someone complains of a defective model that Apple isn’t interested in helping with…wow, check it out, an entire site made for Mac complaints http://www.appledefects.com/ ;)

3) Ya. Now they’re sleeker…heck, they always were. But you DID need to begin using Intel processers (trashing the PowerPCs) to make it “faster”, those are of PC origin.

4) Heh, that’s funny. I thought most Mac versions of PC software are stripped down pieces of junk…but each one to his own.

Now, I don’t want to fight. Please, please do not take this as any aggression, that’s not my intent.

From what I’ve heard, a mac is notoriously hard to upgrade.

Not true. When I upgraded my computer, I just popped in the upgrade disk and all it did was ask me for my password and choose what hard drive I wanted to upgrade. Then, I waited for a while (about 2 hours to be exact) and it was done!

And Slipstream, I have only gotten that window once in the five years I have had my Mac. I was running ten programs at once. :P

avatar for Henry Henry 1571 posts

I upgraded from OS9 to OSX and I had the exact same thing blupheonix said happen to me. Nothing. That screen of death we get is VERY rare. I’ve only gotten it on my imac, which I never use anymore. Piece of junk. At the time it was great however. If there was a website devoted to PC complaints, the bandwidth limit would be killed everyday. It’d also have to be categorized for all the problems.

HA!

I saw that video before! Just goes to show you how bad a PC can be.

Exactly what I was examplifying!

To be fair, I’ve never gotten the blue screen of death in my 5 or so years of using a window =P

Thats because you are the 1% of the population that doesn’t multi-task.

At this moment I have: Safari, opera, itunes, Pandora, dictionary, Quinn, skype and Finder running. But finder doesn’t really count, it isn’t possible to quit it.

I tend to be against Apple products (in that I won’t buy them), mainly because over the years their products seem to be more style over substance. They aren’t the best, but continue to imply they are. I won’t buy anything just because of an advertisement though…

I like Apple better than Windows. Apple has some nifty programs in it :)

I recently got BSoD :(

Ironicly, as I read that, I currently have 6 different browser windows open, including a video, a MMORPG, and a chat program. xD

I hate macs so badly. Though granted we were using Macs at school so they probably weren’t upgraded a lot and stuff and a latest mac has come out since then too, but heres the problem we went through on a daily basis when using a mac trying to do work + others

- Every program would randomly quit and say “Unexpected error” ALL THE TIME

- You could play a swf from a PC but a swf from a mac wouldnt work on pc….wtf?

- A one click mouse….are we downgrading? (but yeah I know u can put double click mouses in too now)

- The programs like Flash don’t open in full screen, they’re floating windows almost full screen…and I dunno why this pisses me off so much….

- You can’t just bring over an .exe you needa find mac compatible version of the program and a lot of the time, expspecially non huge commercialized things, wont have it.

- Less games on the mac

- I hate the bottom floating toolbar, it sometimes overlaps programs which is frustrating as hell.

Some of these programs can be fixed in customize settings, but since you’re at school, you have no admin rights.

1. What computer is that? The Macintosh 128k?

2. I play .swf files everyday. I even download them, N game For example.

3. You can press the Control button (Ctrl) to right click. And did you put “u” in substitution of “you”? Noob.

4. You can fix that. At the top click “view”, then usually at the bottom, “fullscreen”.

5. You actually can, the programs called “Bootcamp” Download it. It’s free.

6. That is true for a change. I will change that. Sometime…

7. You can make it so that, that only pops up when you put the mouse down there.

I WIN!!

This is off topic, but Henry… You have a debate you signed up for that you should consider posting in. Your position is, if I remember correctly, on either page one or page two of the one on one debate thread, and your personal thread for the debate is on page 2 of the serious discussion forums. So I hope you consider posting your opening statement.

I’ve got Internet Explorer, Word, itunes, msn messenger, google earth and paint.net open on windows on my crappy laptop and it’s running fine.
