Yahoo! article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_fort_hood_shooting
That’s pretty crazy. I can’t believe that that would happen in such a place.
Fort Hood:
-Biggest base in the US.
72K Population, 42K Soldier population
Two tank divisions (That’s HUGE)
LOTS of acres of training zone

Why? You send troops over to muslim countries, attack their land and people, and do not expect that sooner or later the enemy would hit back on American soil?
We are at war; expect the enemy to take the war to us again and again.
Clearly the shooter was a muslim terrorist, based on his name.
I am curious to see who failed to see the ‘warning signs’ this time.

You should be glad this doesn’t happen more often.
The US is one of the few countries that has the fortune of not being geographically close to many of the nations it wages war with. What you might consider an “unprecedented tragedy” is far more common for many other nations.

Take it somewhere else if your going to have an attitude when your talking about soldiers killed.
1. The attackers were loyal American soldiers; they were not Muslim.
2. The names of the attackers have not been released by the government, so how could you know the name?
3. There was no “warning” signs saying 3 American soldiers would go berserk and attack eachother.
Please, actually read the article. Otherwise, I couldn’t care what you say. ;)

uh, did you read the article?
A law enforcement official identified the shooting suspect as Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. The official said Hasan, believed to be in his late 30s, was killed after opening fire at the base. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly. The official says investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name, or if he changed his name and converted to Islam at some point in his life.
I don’t really like your insinuation that being a Muslim precludes one from being a loyal American soldier either.
I’m sure this will lead to much more scapegoating and scaremongering against Muslims in the media. Joy.

Hmm…actually, this article is very confusing. They don’t actually state that it was a soldier stationed at the base (though it’s heavily implied), and there was only one shooter, and there is no indication of what the other 2 soldiers were suspected of.

These are suspects, rumors; the actual names of the dead bodies and guaranteed shooters have not yet been released. I just watched it on CBS.

Now we’re stereotyping one’s religion based on their name? What has our society become?

And just so you all know, the first thought I had was that three troops snapped over the war stress, because the USA is grinding their soldiers mental health into the ground.

Bullshit if that was your first thought you would have said that first instead of your stupid first post.

Well if you’d said that first instead of jumping on the fact that the suspected shooter has a ‘Muslim sounding name’ then maybe people wouldn’t think you were a prejudiced moron. But here we are.

Stop flaming.
that the suspected shooter has a ‘Muslim sounding name’
Assuming something by name isn’t as bad as you make it out to be. Not saying it’s not wrong, but it’s not the end of the word to assume something by a name.
then maybe people wouldn’t think you were a prejudiced moron.
Does serious discussion have no mods? It’s a flamefest here.
prejudiced
The overuse of this word is insulting to the serious cases of it.

The American Muslim Soldier, Nidal Malik Hasan, is NOT DEAD. It seems the military wanted to rough him up a bit before announcing it.
I hope that they did not break any of Nidal Malik Hasan rights when they did it.

Unless you can prove he’s actually Muslim, please stop using it to describe him.

The proof is the delayed reveal that Nidal Malik Hasan is alive.
They chose to withhold this information.
The next move will them be saying that he ‘put up a fight and got physically beat up when we had to subdue him’
More proof?
The military behavor in that Iraq prison.

You can tell someone’s religion by a picture of their face? He looks pretty american to me.
They chose to withhold this information.
And murder investigations don’t tell the media all the details because they’re trying to cover for something? I think not. Actual proof instead of faulty logic please.

An active shooter situation isn’t something that you can drag out.
If the shooter isn’t stopped quickly, people die.
Just because the media wasn’t or isn’t given all the answers to their questions right away,
does not mean they are covering up. It is wise for the Army to confirm all the facts before
releasing them.
Given that this doctor was actively shooting people, I think it’s quite fortunate, for him, that
he’s still alive.
Here’s an up dated article I found.

I heard that he was a psychiatrist at that base and he stated that he rampaged due to the fact that he would be deploying to Afghanistan or Iraq sometime this month.
