Theres always been a thought in my head throughout my short life that i may be the only thing in this universe. The worst part of this is that you know that i’m wrong for you know that you exist but i don’t know this and can’t prove this.
Does anybody else have these kind of thoughts?

It’s possible, but it’s extremely selfish to assume that it’s you who is the real person. What’s to say that you’re not a character from someone else’s imagination?

Why it be selfish to think that? It would be selfish to act upon these thoughts thought yes. But yeah, i can’t stop questioning the nature of reality and it kinda messes up my brain. I was just wondering if anyone\everyone thought like this.

Tons of people have thought of this. The matrix trilogy is roughly based off this idea more the nothing you know is real part not so much the your the only entity in the universe. It just not very useful to try to transfer these ideas to the real world.

Rofl that was what I was going to say =).
“You know, I know this steak doesn’t exist. I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, you know what I realize?
Ignorance is bliss."

Cogito, ergo sum.
I think, therefor I am.

So I technically don’t exist and therefore I probably can’t kill you right? Meet me at Central Park on Tuesday 6:30 A.M. Wear a red sox hat and a blue shirt. We’ll settle this.

Sure you can. Go touch someone. If you don’t trust your sensory perceptions, you can’t really support the idea that you exist yourself.

You’re all wrong. I’m schizophrenic and every last person is a figment of my imagination. Jamcob is the embodiment of my thought on this.

Your sensory perceptions can be fooled, but the idea of self isn’t tied to your senses. You exist because you can perceive your own thoughts. You cannot prove anyone else exists in so concrete a fashion. It’s the entire point behind the idea!

It doesn’t really matter what you think, what matters is definitions. I particularly don’t care if you exist or not. What I do care about is what you do and how it affects me. My definition is that you exist if you affect my life (it’s not really a definition, just a way of viewing it). It’s hard to say this due to this being the internet, but my friends exist by my view, due to them affecting me. The Sun exists, because it affects me. Your account exists, because it affects me. I can’t say anything about “you” in particular, though.

What if you are supposed to feel your thoughts when in fact they are the creation of someone else?

You can’t perceive your own thoughts without first assuming that perception is a valid sensation. Why accept that but not other sensory input?

I try not to affect anyone thus I don’t exist in anyone’s life or mind.
Try not to let anyone affect me thus no one exists in my life or mind.
Who am I kidding……
As long as someone’s affecting you or you affecting someone, that’s existence.

To prove your existence is a simple matter. Assuming that the greater bodies of the universe are “real” by our and any other standard, to prove you hold place along side them in existence is to assimilate them. As we know it the three greatest (and most tangible) forces in the universe are fledgling stars, stable suns, and Black Holes. What do they have in common? Immense destructive power, the Black Hole being the known epitome of this. So, my point being this: Our place in the universe is DEFINED not by how much we “interact” with matter, but how we ALTER matter (matter is any and all things, for the sake of argument). Now, am I saying that to prove you exist you have to potentially become psychotically destructive in a way that is similar (if not relative too) the greater bodies of our known universe?… The answer is no, because lets face it, compared to a Black Hole me, you, and everyone we know is nothing… and I don’t mean that in an “Emo” philosophical way… I mean that in a sense that we could all be “engulfed” by space, our whole civilization, let alone solar system… “erased” before I finish this post. So in summery the only way to prove that you truly exist is to RIVAL the greatest celestial bodies in existence… because we (you, me, all of us) are a mere fart in the breeze. We “interact”, we exist, and we are forever lost… dissipated by a FAR greater (and semi-inconceivable force)… so don’t worry, none of exist my friend… nothing that can be so easily lost and forgotten can… so enjoy having your atoms in one place while you can, because shit happens… and on a universal scale…
