Description

This update drastically changes gameplay based on feedback given to us in the comments section here on kongregate.

The biggest change is that now dying on normal difficulty will only result in you being forced to respawn one room back. This should allow players to make it through the game without rage quitting!

For players who want more of a challenge, we’ve created a ‘hardcore difficulty’. On hardcore, the game is much more like the original version, where you can only respawn at checkpoints.

Other significant changes include…
Hold to Crouch changed to Toggle Crouch
Press ‘C’ to cancel your weapons charge
Numerous various bug fixes

Hope you enjoy the new version! Let us know what you think!

"Your eyes and ears have adapted well. Perhaps you will live through the tutorial..." unless of course you accidentally let go of shift and get eaten by a rat. That would be unfortunate, idiot." :P

I wish there was easy mode with unlimited arrows. This is too hard and annoying for me. I still gave it 3/5 because it seems like fine game. Or maybe I just suck at it.

We've now added a 'Casual' Difficulty that you might enjoy. We are still not so lax as to give you infinite arrows, but we've definitely made the game more accessible with things like increased health, increased move speed, and ammo staying in your inventory after you activate a checkpoint. Hopefully the game will better suit your playstyle now.

It's. So. Freaking. Hard. But really, its a lot of fun. Apart from a lot of slow traveling and some glitch deaths, very well done. The changing of the levels and the music that goes with it is perfect. It really feels like you're adventuring through a game. All of you who might quit at the beginning... get through it, it gets SO much more fun once you get past the 'Still Learning' room (I think that's it... its the one that has the pillar and the three rats beyond it). Oh, and HINT: Jump at the end of your grappling rope shot to get you that last edge before it disappears (thats the only way I got past that pillar)

Awesome. This is totally what we wanted to hear haha. If a few select people could have this experience, then it was all worth it! Just to address your one concern about the 'Still Learning' room. We tweaked that BRUTAL room with an update recently. There are still 2 ways to get past it, but the slower way where you simply collect arrows and kill the rats has been speed up considerably. However, the rope swing method still requires perfect timing and forethought.

The sound you make should act like waves and bounce off the walls and grow fainter.

I had that idea originally, but it was out of scope :P Maybe for Black Bow 2: Rise of the Pointy Things

Hint: Activating a checkpoint means you go back to it, at the state you were in. Once set, I don't think you can "re-save" to save your progress. Did a bat room with rocks, left with 5 arrows, pressed Space at the checkpoint and went back to having 0 arrows. Frustrating.

From The Peasant - actually every time you get reset to 0 everything, no matter how you were when you first get to the checkpoint. From Daniel - We should probably put in a warning that asks if you are sure you want to activate the checkpoint, and explains that levels and enemies are reset. Thanks for the comment.
