it does seem like the difficulty ramps up super high if you continue past 150! i'm doing it to see how long it will take me to 'win' even though i can't win, but the threat went from an average of 8% to, like, 60%. i can't put enough of my people into production to matter!

....I was in bronze age doing well and these ppl attacked me. Their cunning and strength were medium so i decided to just flee... well then it said you lose this many ppl and I lost about half of my ppl. Then I said to myself, "and now im proboly gonna die.".....*10 turns later* YOU LOSE, #son of a B!tch

So yeah, got stuck at 1711 bc. Raised stats so high that it have me 2,000 culture points. Used a few hundred and then all the meters broke as they couldn't handle those new numbers. Still added the levels to 400+. Just it couldn't figure out what to do with those numbers.

I broke the game wont progress past 1202 BC I have somehow glitched everything, i have no enemies and have over 2.1b pop and over 116k research points... somehow i think building that monument wa sless of an achievement now that i broke survival, and cant ever die...

1/5 Even on the easiest mode I can't get enough to win the game. Plus every single time, out of 10 so far, I accept the help of a scholar or sage or whatever it blows up in my face. Poor dev choices.

Wouldn't be so bad if you could get technologies from previous ages. It's not like people who have access to iron tools can't still sharpen sticks.

For those that are struggling - focus on food at fight. animals for 4 points and then culture & production. Once you reach 4000 bc switch all food to fishing. You will not regret it. Once you have fishing wharf & can start upgrading the final fishing upgrade a few times you start getting crazy amounts of population increase a time. I had to upgrade my max pop. once every 5/6 turns towards 130 days. Good fun!

Disregard my question about how to get to Copper Age. I got a little confused with the year going backwards because it's B.C.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Read this if you're facing difficulty: The trick to this game is to horde culture points before new age starts. Never upgrade anything beyond level 1 except tier 1 culture (lvl 3~4), tier 1 cow (lvl 2~3), tier 2 fish (lvl 2~3). Build buildings whenever possible, flee battle if none of the opponent stat is low and just skip turns until new age starts without wasting culture points. Focus on culture, food, production and finally population limit (in this order) when new age starts.

The percentages for upgrades shouldn't be so misleading. When the Wall upgrade says Strength +50% I expect my strength to go from 50M to 75M. Instead it barely changes because my Strength BONUS went from 2000% to 2050%.

Big issue with the housing. At the end of 4-3k BC I got a bad sage that gave me -2 research points. My population skyrocketed and when I entered 3k BC, I had no possible way to increase my population cap anymore since the upgrade was in the previous age. You should be able to upgrade your population limit regardless what age your in

The game just null everything at 1250th turn and said I'm lose, because mr. developer put high numbers at upgrades. Er...

It's alot like age of war, but less stressful and more tactical. But i suck at it and can't get over 1m production points in 200 turns

only thing i dislike is that monotheism produces more culture than polytheism. zoroastrianism-the first documented monotheistic religion didnt come about until the 7th or 6th century BCE, so its historically inaccurate too. Other than that though-great game!

Aaand next run: Won in turn 132. All my leaders were positive (enlightment and stuff), golden age lasted for most of the game and i was attacked 3 times AT ALL. Sooo, balancing is quiet random. Still sucky.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's a bit BS that you just lose after turn 150. All of my kinds of production were capped and no enemy was remotely threatening to me. If I was "swept away by their development" I could have drowned them in food and outmatched them with military a hundredfold.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Kept the thread level at 2-4%. Been attacked 6 times in a row. Lost every single time (which is idiotic enough on its own!). In the end i lose at round 150 because i've not enough production (now 605k in turn 155). Playing on settler for crying out loud. Yeah, no, f*** this game.

As zzxxzz3 suggests, the game is relatively easy (even on deity) if you focus strictly on animal breeding. There's some luck to some of it, but I've finished between 130 and 145 turns on deity in all my games. I kept threat close to 25% at all times. Always fight, unless cunning is LOW. Losses will quickly be made up for by your high population income.

Cannot get production to raise to acceptable numbers. finally broke 100k production at turn 146. how the stuff is this even possible?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
man the post-game danger needs to be nerfed. No matter how fast I grow my population it still grows or does not move. the only exception is when I find new land for food growing or a new resource but even then the higher pop. growth gets capped and I must upgrade my pop. max and when I do my danger grows because my growth is to small. all in all NERF THE POST-GAME DANGER I'm playing on SETTLER And I still have this issue

Great game. One slight annoyance: Need better control with the +'s and -'s. Later in the game, the scale gets out of proportion: + adds a few and - subtracts many. Other games use keys + mouse click to control how big the effect is

"Go now warriors of Our glorious tribe!" The Chieftain yelled to his people. "Follow me to Our destiny!" The warriors howled with the rage of a thousand demons. Since the year 2000 they had been beset by barbarians and other tribes. They knew they would not be remembered for their work as farmers, fishermen, workers, or herdsmen. They had built their wonder too late to be of any importance. What they would be remembered for however would be carnage. In this year of 1323 the tribe set out. Men, Women, and Children in total a million strong, armed with their weapons they set out to carve their memory into their enemies bones.

Mining is one of the best techs in the game to put multiple points in since it increases the effectiveness of your production workers. Unfortunately, higher-age production techs only increase the number of workers when you put more than 1 point in, which makes Mining generally be a better tech than the later production techs. Dump as much into it as you can before Copper Age.

Why is it that the years per turn slow down significantly after 2000 BC? I wanted to get to 2014 A.D. (to keep current, you know), and realized that 200 turns later I was still 1800 B.C. Come on, now.
Maybe that's to keep us from progressing too far.
At that point in the game, it's war nearly every other turn. Always fight, even losing millions of people, to gain an extra 10% bonus, and since it's too much of a pain to constantly increase max population anyways. The huge food surplus can quickly replenish the people that are lost.
Overall, an interesting game. 4/5.

The year is 1659 BC, the great city of Atlantis has over 13 million people, but with our pathetic army of 10 million, many people seek to invade and steal our women and children, often taking millions of people in the process. Luckily we are able to reproduce quickly enough to gain another 3 million in a year. 5/5 really life like!

Also, might be a rounding bug here, but I'm on turn 143, production reads 1.5m at the top (assume I'm actually a little short, saw that in the population window before), I've researched megastructures, but the pyramid in the building window is greyed out. Maybe the victory conditions shouldn't be rounded up? (Or a mouseover could show the actual number?) Not trying to be nitpicky, but I guess I am anyway.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Well, I guess I understand later in the game (when the pop gets big) but it doesn't make so much sense in the early rounds.

I got tired of taking care of my people, so I sent them to the mines for 100 years, with no food. Somehow, they almost survived the 100 years. But they died.
10 years later, a neighboring village attacked my empty empire. My zero villagers fought valiantly and drove them away, but not before losing ten of their own.
Interesting glitch
